Unless apple do something completely unexpected and have managed to keep the supply chain quiet about it, the 7S will basically be a 7 with glass back, wireless charging and an improved processor and a slightly improved camera.

Most people don't seem very excited about wireless charging especially with the amount it will cost to buy the chargers. The glass back isn't a big selling point as almost everyone seems to have a case on their expensive phone (if you don't you are mad!)

That leaves us with a slightly better camera and a faster processor. The 7 already flies and there comes a point where the limiting factor for the speed of the OS is the animations. Part of the polish of iOS is the transitions and animations so I can't imagine you will notice the processor bump for a while as the 7 already runs iOS super smoothly.

Ultimately if you get the 7S it will last longer. The 7 will become sluggish before the 7S does but that will likely be a few years down the line and a lot of people will either have upgraded again by then or don't care about there being a half second delay opening apps.

The camera will be slightly better but its already very good and I would be surprised if people could tell which photo was from a 7S vs a 7. Cameras are not taking huge strides quality wise at the moment.

Given the above and the large discounts you can get on a 7 already through carriers which will only improve once the 7S comes out, how many of you will still pay the premium for the 7S.

I would like people to send a message to apple that we are not happy to pay full price for a 3 year old phone with minor updates every year when they are clearly capable of building something far far better. We shouldn't accept samsung selling a phone that is equivalent to the upcoming 8 at near half the price we will be charged for the 8. We shouldn't be encouraging apple to create a new premium tier in an already premium priced iPhone lineup that is reserved only for those willing to spend silly money.

We aren't asking for change for the sake of change, the iPhone 6 design is beautiful and a classic but they are showing they can do better but still charging us for an outdated screen and design.

I will be getting a 7 if I don't feel the 8 is good value and I really hope that next year all of the usual price points are used for the updated 8 design and not another year of the old 6 design.

My reasoning would be basically that I like the look of the glass-back design; (if Qi standard) then I already have some wireless chargers hanging around I may as well use; if the camera is at all better, that's still a plus as I like taking snaps on my travels.

You can be sure Apple won’t allow you to use third party charging pads. They will make it work only with theirs.

Come Sept 12th I wouldn't put it past Apple to discontinue the 7 / 7+ altogether and simply keep the 6s / 6s+ around as a 'budget option' in order to differentiate the new 7s / 8 models more and push customers into giving them the max amount of money possible. If there's one thing you can always count on Apple for it's greed.

They've done the same move recently with the iPad Pro's. Once the 10.5" iPad Pro came out, instead of keeping the 9.7" iPad Pro around and lowering the price by $100 to give customers a middle option they simply discontinued it altogether. This way they could push people into making the hard choice of either the newest iPad Pro at $650+, or settling for the unattractive and outdated $329 budget iPad.

What is that supposed to mean 'value for money' this is piece of bleeding edge technology not a kilo of new season strawberries.

If you're the type who's just going to use it for texting and Facebook, it's not good value to spend $1000+ when something much less expensive will perform the same tasks for you. Value in tech comes from paying for what you actually need, not several times more for features you don't care about, and in that sense, the 7s/7s+ may be a better value for many people.

I don't think that $1000+ for a phone with a comparable screen to a $600 android device and cameras that will be similar to said android device is value for money. If it was $800-$850 I wouldn't mind the apple tax but $1000 is far too much considering what the competition is putting out for far far less.

Personally I think the 7S will be just as bad value for money simply due to the outdated screen, massive bezel design. In 2017 apple should be releasing an iPhone like the 8 as their bread and butter device, not some uber expensive phone that relegates most Apple customers to buying essentially a 3 year old phone with boring updated internals. Samsung are doing what apple should be doing which is depressing.

You see "value" is a relative thing. Having used multiple Android devices over the years I just ignore the prices and the hardware specs they brag about. Most Android devices leave a distasteful experience for me. Price doesn't matter when the usability value is zilch.

Really the only argument for the 7s being outdated (based on current rumours) is aesthetics.

Some of us still have the Iphone 6 and are looking to upgrade, that's who the 7s is for. I want to say most of us 6 owners skipped the 7. But I do agree that if the 7 drops heavily in price then it would be a no brainer on which one to get.

I think Apple need to start working on improving the sound quality of the Iphone as a music player. It would be nice for them to improve it in that way, maybe add some Beats headphones instead of the earpods. I don't know, something different.

Exactly. If you have a 7 or mabye even a 6s, the 7s probably isn't worth your while. But coming from a 6 or older, it may still offer a significant upgrade for a much lower price.

Former iPhone 6 owner here. I dunno, I think a lot may have jumped on the $650 trade-in credit promo last year. :p

That said, yeah, the 7s isn't for 7 owners. Probably not even for 6s since A9 is still excellent. It's for those with even older devices.

How can anyone answer this without knowing the specifics of the device that is yet to be announced. Fast charging may be enough for me at this point, also would love if they'd fix the temperature of the screen - I don't care for the warmer screens.

This!

Really almost nothing specific has been leaked for the 7S. There might be a OLED screen & glass back which would be enough for me to upgrade from 6. Really depends on what they show at the keynote.

More cost effective options like buying an iPhone 7 at much cheaper prices when carriers clear out inventory or e-commerce sites want to reduce their inventories. Android also offers more hardware features for much more affordable prices.

Forget the software for a second: the Galaxy S8 offers an AMOLED screen (high caliber one), Iris Scanner, Facial Detection, FP sensor, water resistance, small body ergonomics, dual curved display, high caliber camera, fast charging, wireless charging, etc for a fraction of the iPhone 8. If people are software agnostic or simply don't hinge on the iOS, they can just spend less and get more for their dollar.

When iPhone users see that, they get tempted to spend $ on a Galaxy rather than continuing in the ecosystem. Let's face it, as much as we may like iOS products, Apple took out some key features to get to the iPhone 8: no FP sensor, no headphone jack. To get water resistance, the Taptic Engine, and dual speakers, Apple may have claimed removing the headphone jack was necessary.

So either, it's pay higher to play harder or you break out of the ecosystem and take your business elsewhere to get "value." Either you put your value towards iPhones for what they are, the ecosystem/software, or you can go more cost effective elsewhere.

I like Android well enough but greatly prefer AOSP over manufacturer skins.

However, I do agree with "value" being a relative thing. I have an iPhone 5c (2012 CPU) and iPhone 5s (2013) that both still work quite well on iOS 10.3.3. How are Android flagships released in 2012 and 2013 faring now?

With the iPhone 6 and newer, Apple went to fewer SKUs so most LTE bands used around the world are available on the iPhones. The automatic carrier provisioning is also useful. When we went on vacation overseas a couple of years ago, I used Android with local SIM. Mom used an unlocked iPhone 5. Without automatic provisioning on my mom's iPhone, I wouldn't have been able to get data running on my Android (had to manually input APN and needed to search the internet to find the correct APN settings). Easy customer/warranty service via the numerous Apple Stores in my area is also a draw and part of the reason I pay the Apple tax.

Based on existing rumors, I may not be convinced that iPhone 8 is worth $1000 for my usage. However, ~$400 for a certified refurbished iPhone 6s or ~$200 for the iPhone SE is pretty competitive with mid-range Android as far as performance goes.

First off, the 7S isn't expected to have wireless charging or a glass back. Those rumors are only for the 8.

Second, there are very few rumors about the 7S, so we truly don't know what it will be like.
