No, because it doesn't have the same functionality.

However, the iPod Touch and the iPad have the same functionality. The only difference is size.

The difference is in the apps and how you use them. I don't use but maybe 3 apps on both my iPhone and my iPad. Different apps targeted for each device and each device targeted for a different use.

You know I can save all the competetive hardware brands out there a whole lot of money because if they are all just trying to create a smaller laptop or a smaller netbook, I think that sh-it is pretty easy. Doing what's already been done for the same old uses is well, very non iNNOVATIVE. But that's what they are all good at being. Apple at least is leading the way with something new. So innovative, and simple-elegant that there are what 234,423 different competitive versions of the same thing trying to compete and still can't. Ha!

I mean how many Droids have been launched, what OS do Brands A-B-C-D-E and all the rest run on? Do their Apps all work on brands A-B-C-D-E? Nope...too much variance. Must suck for their developers. Again, they are popular with IT Geeks because quite frankly you have to have an IT degree to run one smoothly.

It might seem like a big ipod touch, but to me the ipad seems much faster in downloading apps and loading webpages than my iphone 4 and my dads 4th generation ipod touch.

Plus its a better ebook reader too with the bigger screen.

5" inch portable TV. 72 inch flat screen. Same functionality. Only difference is size.

you fail to see the big picture...
With bigger screen, there will be apps that can take advantage of larger screen. Obviously, people just want to talk crap about iPad.
The iPad's built in functionality doesn't increase along with the size of the screen. There's no tabbed browsing, there's no notifications panel, there's no settings panel, there's no filesystem, there's nothing new over the iPod Touch 4 except a faster processor.

Why not just say Motorola Xoom is a just big Motorola Droid X?
Because the Xoom's OS has more functionality than the Droid X.

If you put the exact Droid X OS on the Xoom, you would say the Xoom were a massive failure, but if you put the iPod Touch OS on the iPad, which is what is happening, you guys drool and call it magical and amazing.

Its not like you were ever going to buy the ipad to begin with the way your talking about it. So it doesn't make a difference even if they were the same.

A tv serves only 1 function: to display image and sound. A tablet serves many.

Am I dealing with a bunch of 5 year olds here?

I just wish people would at least admit that making the screen 3 times bigger does not make a tablet. If they can at least admit that, they can stimulate Apple to innovate instead of giving them big iPod Touches they call "tablets"

No, Your just unwilling to accept anyones points but your own.
Isn't that true of every person in this thread? If you accept another person's point, then it becomes your own as well.

I hope you guys are all 18 or younger because these arguments are just inappropriate for a fully grown adult to have.

Tablets were never meant to replace a desktop or laptop. Just a more portable way to surf the web on the go, watch movies, read a book etc.

Ipad does all the basic things perfectly, which is what the casual consumer wants anyway.

If you want to have a a more "powerful" computing device, then a laptop or desktop would be a better choice.

Here's a little secret about apple: they don't rush anything.

They are just beginning to establish an entirely new market for tablets. They will take their time, and they will do it right.

Why do you need people to admit anything? Go buy a Xoom or something.

lol, no.

It's how APPLE says a tablet should function today. Have some critical thinking.

How many threads are you trolling in today? Are you typing on your HP TouchPad or Playbook? Does mommy know you are using her puter?

If you think that Apple doesn't want to eventually replace netbooks and even laptops and desktops with touch based interfaces entirely, you are very naive.

False. I think just about everyone here is of the same opinion, yours is basically the differing one.

I don't see how these arguments are childish, especially considering you haven't even said what the iPad should be. And I don't want the answer "a tablet" that means nothing. What specific things do you want out of the iPad that it doesn't already offer?

And as to the immediately previous post, that's pretty ridiculous. I would be quite disappointed if everything went touch. That would make typing a paper a giant pain in the butt, especially since I can touch-type very quickly.

A shift that herculean doesn't happen over night.

I've already give you an example of an interface that is available on the iPad but simply wouldn't work on an iTouch. What more do you want?

I don't have a problem with Apple, I know they take their time.

My problem is with the low intelligence of the public, calling this iteration of a touch based computing device a "tablet".

The ipad is apple's answer right now to netbooks. Ipad will never replace a macbook pro or imac to most people, no matter how advanced it gets.

How powerful do you want the ipad to actually be? It's a portable device to casually surf the web, check email, maybe read a book or 2 and watch movies. It doesn't need to have the power of a 3000 dollar macbook pro.
