Some of them were gold.... Anyone know why Apple ditched those Mac ads?

They were funny, albeit pretentious when they first started. However in my opinion were annoying towards the end. I guess the Apple PR people thought they should move on.

T-Moble did a nice job of resurrecting them with ads featuring the gal in pink and the iPhone trapped with ATT.

    This one is funny...

I think the advertising people thought it was best to just move on.

No, but she's cute, which is better than P.C. or Mac (although I like P.C. as a dry comedian.)

The Mac vs. PC concept was getting a bit long in the tooth, but I personally think there was a tiny bit more to it than that. Some of the most memorable were jabs at the many perceived faults of Windows Vista (e.g. "Mac has issued a salutation. Cancel or Allow?"). Once Vista SP1 and then 7 were released that addressed these issues, the ads didn't have as much ammo for attacks.

I liked em, but it was time for them to move on. Needed something new.

They were never funny to me. I also can't stand that Mac actor.

They had a few good ones, but those ads overstayed their welcome imo. They need something fresh. :)

^ this. They were enjoyable in the beginning. But towards the end they seemed to get a little smug and enjoyed stretching the truth a little too much.

They were really funny and effective. I miss them.
PC was a riot with some of his schemes.

What happened? Maybe it's because Macs are selling like crazy on their reputation and word of mouth. Why bother spending millions on TV advertising if you don't have to?
Or maybe it's because much can go wrong when you're poking fun at the competition... even if you're understating their faults and downplaying your strengths, it's going to turn off some people and could potentially backfire.

Hoping for a resurrection of these hilarious commercials at the release (escape?) of Windows 8,

    Keri

Very likely like all things, they got old and it was time to move on.

Last time I checked, PCs have always outsold Macs over the past two decades.

They simply gave out the wrong message in my mind, focusing more on the weaknesses of a competitor's product rather than focusing on the strengths of its own. When I used a PC I just thought they were stupid, and didn't shine a good light on Apple, it's products or it's users. When I got a Mac, they made me cringe. Good riddance.

    John Hodgman Rules!

when 'Vista' was out, they were awesome, funny, and relevant.

vista went away (thank you (deity of choice)), and now they would not work. can's wait to see what they come up with next.

Apple is one of a handful of companies that i actually look forward to advertising from.

Funny in the beginning but it got old. With advertising you don't want to keep replaying the same old same old. People start tuning out.

They were good, but it was time to discontinue them.

Next will be Jobs in the Jack costume, of Jack in the box. Now that would be funny. Maybe this: the stoner guy goes into an Apple Store and wants to buy 20 iMacs. Jobs talks him into one loaded MBP. "You really weren't going to watch all 20, were you?" Jobs asked with the incredulous look mouth. After a pause, the stoner says "Y e a h..they're real...colorful, man. Hey, like do you have a vending machine here. I'm starved man". Jobs' face assumes a stern and disapproving look.
