I have a redundant question too -- why do people keep posting these threads here? Who cares which computer has better hardware, the bottom line is a discerning consumer will purchase the computer he/she feels works best for their specific workflow and what they feel comfortable using, specs be damned. Most discerning "Mac users" have owned or still own Windows based computers OR have bootcamped Windows onto their Mac because they need the OS for whatever reason. Hardware is reliant on the needs of the specific user, a beefed up Windows based machine can be as good or better as a similar Mac machine. Contrarily, you can get the best of both worlds for way cheaper than flat out purchasing a Mac. Once again -- YOUR INDIVIDUAL CHOICE.

If you're going to buy a PC or Mac blindly because you think either one has better specs versus the other, you're only hurting yourself in the end.

The Mac vs PC fight is incredibly dumb, we need to stop feeding it.

The lone voice of reason.

Because they 'feel' better for some. Not for everyone (like hard-core gamers), but for many.

Before you flame me, go listen to the latest episode of Hypercritical (titled 'Hypercritical') which is a podcast by John Siricusa and Dan Benjamin. I think that Macs are being judged more and more by the feel, and not the raw specs like computers have been judged by since they were created.

And frankly, this thread was made by an obvious troll. I hate to submit myself to it, but I thought this point had to be made.

As the O.P. I have nothing against MACs in general. (apple maybe, but I hate Gates ten times more then i could possibly hate anyone else.) I prefer certain manufactures for hardware when i get a computer. I want the best and nothing less. So i built my own desktop and I have the best of two and a half worlds I have windows, Ubuntu, and a hacked version of Snow leopard. (Your choice on which one only counts as Half an OS.) My Laptop I won( or rather Lost) contest and received a HP laptop from my high school before i graduated. I prefer a spiral bound note book then that now.\
I really did want this question answered but it seems no one has a real answer so i will be closing this thread in a hour.

I still don't understand why you made this thread. Obviously it was to get people to get into the same redundant Apple vs other BS. You knew the answer when you posted this as you stated that you researched this.

This thread belongs in the wasteland forum.

I have been told by many owners of macs that simply because they have a Mac that their hardware is better then any other computer. I attempt to tell them the only actual difference between mac and "PC's" is the OS and in actuality Apple buys its hardware from the same people that the PC vendors get their hardware from.
In fact I have often dug up evidence that Macs do not have the best Hardware. Currently ASUS and Toshiba lead with mac in fourth of the largest 8 PC manufactures.

I can answer this for you. It's because your a freaking geek and most others are not. Most non geeks judge by overall experience, not nit picking at everything. IMO (and most would probably feel the same), Macs always seemed to have a better design than most notebooks. And if you think the average person is not factoring in OSX when judging any Mac notebook, that's just because your too much of a geek to understand the average person's opinion.

I too like the finer things in life but I really don't understand the point of having the "best" hardware at any point in time - especially in the world of electronics. There will always be something more shiny one month out so continually chasing that moving goal is a rather pointless one. The companies win, your wallet loses.

On the flip side, what is it that you do that requires the best in biz? Is it just so you can brag to your friends you have top of the line stuff or are you actually doing something useful in the world? As someone who have used all three OS's and prefer OS X over all of them, I don't see the appeal of being able to boot into all the OS's you mentioned. Sounds like a waste of time to me honestly.

While I can appreciate people who love hardware, many of us just want our computers to work. In the time you've spec'ed out your best system in your price range and acquired all the parts, others have created cool startups that have made millions of dollars or created businesses that helps people in third world countries. Macs help my productivity and while I certainly don't think it has the best of everything, I do have the comfort of not worrying about things randomly giving up and leaving me with no support to turn to.

Like you and many others have said, this thread is pretty pointless. You may have the best "tool" but not doing anything productive with it defeats the purpose of you having it.

Why do you hate Gates? He's a guy who shaped the computing world, and is a philanthropist doing wonderful work with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Did he burn your village down?

I'm pretty sure he's just spewing random propaganda he's heard from all his friends without realizing what it really means. People have been hating M$ and Gates for a long time now. It honestly makes less sense now that he's not even with Microsoft and is a full time philanthropist.

Maybe he hates Gates cause he doesn't make hardware for him to buy.

Mac os is finely tuned to run in perfect harmony with the hardware it is manufactured with. The hardware may not be any better but is able to outperform because the os is lighter and well.... Better! Lol

Firstly, that report is 2 years old.

Secondly, assuming their 1000 unit sample follows typical statistical methodology we are looking at those scores being +/- 3%... we don't know, though, since they don't say what their methodology is.

Third and final; best is very subjective, especially when talking about best overall hardware. Some people would say an F1 car has the best hardware, others would say Rolls Royce, while others would say a Prius, all for equally valid reasoning with equally substantial supporting facts.

So the answer to your question is that most Mac users clearly have a different set of standards than PC users for what defines best hardware; usually this means, but is not exclusive to, a view point that the quality and fit and finish of the casing, keyboard, etc. matter just as much as the speed of the CPU and GPU, etc.

I have a question for you; why do all PC users think Macs have slow crappy internals that are over priced, even though they actually have some of the better out there, and price wise compare pretty well actually... MBP users do pay a premium for the unibody aluminum casing a IPS panels, but so do PC users if you can find one with similar case quality and screen quality.

For all the good Gates does with his money; lots of people do not like "Gates" because of the what he did earlier in life, as well because of their distaste for Windows in general. Some people even go so far to say Windows has retarded the advancement of the computing world by 10+ years because so much money has been poured into such a poorly designed and capable OS (not the UI, just the core underlying framework for Windows itself is so horribly inefficient, limited, and the so forth).

People always defend their purchases to their dying breaths be it over computers, clothes, furniture, or whatever.

I have used many many different laptops and actually being around them is part of my job now. Macs have fantastic hardware, they are NOT the best though. Among the best forsure.

OP just enjoy your mac and be happy and don't let what idiots say bother you too much.

Aren't they?

Running Mac OS is the only feature that many find the best spec in any Mac.
Emulation and all other things are always available.

If you prefer cheap toxic plastic and heavy laptops you know were to find them.

Now go write in another forum.

Isn't funny that Apple can build better machines, while using the same hardware? That's another reason to not buy a PC.

"Of course i am not one to aesthetics I am into performance and performance only."

And that is why you fail. ;)

Or a fingerprint reader on your Macbook. Isn't this retarded game so much fun?

A fingerprint reader is about the most useless option you can have. I had one on a previous Gateway and don't remember using it one time. Useless, and it's only there for cool factor. "Look guys, I have a fingerprint reader".

Mac's are more about including actually needed features and making those features the best possible. That is what makes them better. Nothing else.

Fill us in. What is the best?

I agree the hardware of MAC is not better than PC. I always said PC can do same performance with MAC but the price can be cheaper. I used to PC almost 10 years, but I have 2 iMAC and will buy new MBP soon.

But your post is no point. Why Chanel is better than GAP ? Actually their raw materials are same. It is about the cutting, the design and the BRANDING.

oh yes, one more thing, ppl use MAC because the OSX is more user friendly then WIN. It is no doubt.:apple:

You mean Mac, not MAC. MAC = Media Access Control address :)

I tell myself that MACKS use japanese capacitors and that's why they cost extra.

Besides anyone who knows anything will tell you that the ONLY reason Apple moves so much product is because of that crafty marketing department. Those guys could sell space heaters and salt to people lost in the desert!

nao 'scuze me while I go rock back and fourth in my fort made of late-gen :apple: gear.

There are some great insights (HBOC, MarkM1101) here, but I'm just laughing now.

I'm imagining an ancient Nordic ship with bloodthirsty Vikings coming ashore with their clubs, swords, and Norton 360.

The warchief, clearly, is Bill "Kill-em-all" Gates. He's eating a puppy made entirely of promises. He's going to ruin everyone's life by creating an OS that eliminates typing command into DOS.

CHAOS! UTTER UTTER CHAOS!!!

Isn't it strange that any feature or option that isn't available on a Mac is useless? How about someone who works in the corporate world and must have a fingerprint reader for security purposes? Of course that thought never entered your mind.

I would like to say something but I will go silent because several days ago I received a warning from the administrator for using some form of a bad language.

In short, I do not believe my iMac has better hardware then all PCs - it's a fact. The feature I like the most about Macs is their ergonomics
