My work XP machine has a penchent for crashing, Premiere CS3 is a bloody disgrace to use, Sorrenson Squeeze (ironically, perhaps) and Quicktime are an dictionary definition of instability....I could go on...
See? That wasn't so hard, was it? ;)
Both platforms have problems. Both have good points. Neither are perfect. Neither is the 'best'. People claiming otherwise are just being bone headed fanboys.
Agreed.

This has probably been mentioned already, but have you seen those stupid "Get a Mac" ads!? Ugh. What the hell were they thinking?? It's no wonder people hate Mac users.

Someone (Mac user) gave me crap once because I have Vista installed on my MBP, calling it a "Macinstien". Honestly, too good to run Windows are we? I disgusts me that someone could be that pretentious about an operating system. That's like refusing to drive a Ford because you've only ever driven a BMW.

I don't think your friends hate Macs. They hate you. If they hated Macs, they would just insult you and make fun of you for owning one. If they hate you, they'll try to ruin your computer.

That sounds about right to me.

I doubt that he did all that just cause you have a Mac, I think he just hates you. Its seems a little ridiculous to me, but I know there are the super fan-boys for every thing.

I dont hate Windows. I just dont like it. I would buy XP if I had the money. I think $200 is a little high....

This has probably been mentioned already, but have you seen those stupid "Get a Mac" ads!? Ugh.

They do the brand no favors whatsoever imho. They are the epitome of most things wrong with the community of fanboys that also do far more harm that good. Resorting to negative marketing which barely mention the product you're actually trying to sell is never, ever, the best way to get people interested.

You join a minority when you buy a Mac. Many view people that own Mac's as prema donna's. When you show them the features in OS X, they think you are talking down to them.

Mac users also tend to tout the Apple experience they have had in an attempt to win over converts.

You get similar results when you mix Linux and Windows users together.

Not entirely.... sometimes it's the perception. A friend of mine inquired about purchasing a new computer, so I ran down brands, prices, specs, etc. We went out to hit the local mall, where there just happens to be an Apple Store, Radio Shack, and Best Buy is across the street. He asks the inevitable.. "what do YOU use?" Naturally, the answer is "I use a Mac." He asks why, and I list my reasons. A few PC users within earshot immediately descend upon us like a holy war is imminent and give me that "oh, he thinks he's so superior" look. (Until they realize that they are staring down a guy who is 6'1", 240lbs and now wearing an "I WILL hurt you" scowl.) Afterwards my friend decided on an iMac. We still laugh about it. "Remind me never to take you with me when I buy another computer!"

i've had the same argument with one of my friends...mac vs pc... pc vs mac... it's a very tiring argument. here's something that he wrote...

Yeah mac has wronged me. Hell, it wronged the world. How? It was born!

Have you heard of the "Halo Effect"? The halo effect refers to a cognitive bias whereby the perception of a particular trait is influenced by the perception of the former traits in a sequence of interpretations. A study by Solomon Asch suggests that attractiveness is a central trait, so we presume all the other traits of an attractive person are just as attractive and sought after. This is probably why "good looking yet ugly on the inside" people can still manage to have "friends".

The same goes for products. This is mainly what Mac has going for itself. It's a major factor in their marketing and they do it very well. I'll give them that at least.

MAC = Mainly Attractive Computer -__-

i've read a lot of stuff on this thread that point out so many things about my friend... he really hasn't any knowledge of mac or it's products and is just a gamer.

sad thing... my sr mbp runs games better than his gaming rig... maybe he's just jealous.

Actually I'd love to come with you next purchase time, it sounds like a right laugh :D

Absolutely.

I've seen his pic in another thread.

for the same reason that people who drive Chevys or Chyrsler Neons or some other vanilla car hate people who drive Bentleys or Rolls or Lamborghini.

Closed-minded people are generally afraid of what they don't understand. Hate is their response or reaction to the strong positive (bold) vibe that comes from the presence or mention of an apple computer.

Yup. It's due to ignorance.

Most people have no experience with Macs. The concept of a computer without need for virus scanner, without need for baby sitting and defragging, without idiot ballons, without automatic updates that deletes your unsaved work, without problem setting up for multiple networks, can run 10 apps with few dozens of documents without slowing down to a crawl, can search near instantaneously, can auto-detect external display without user intervention, etc, to these people with no experience, sounds like fantasy from crazy people.

And some of the haters hate because they think Macs are luxury items that their users show off. Since they don't know that OS can make the experience of using a computer more pleasant and more productive, they think the users "overpaid" / have too much money to spent thus showing off.

For those who have some experience with Macs, they typically have used Macs in the 80s or early 90s briefly, and they are comparing XP of today with their experience of 20+ years.

This has probably been mentioned already, but have you seen those stupid "Get a Mac" ads!? Ugh. What the hell were they thinking?? It's no wonder people hate Mac users.

I know both Mac users and PC users who enjoyed the ads, and some have switched partly due to the entertaining ads.

So add fear to the reasons why people hate Mac users

I am a recent switcher, don't care what anyone says against a Mac, it simply is the best PC I've ever used.
It's all in the Intel chips, that made the time right for me, that said I am an AMD man in my PC days.
Turning off the WiFi was kid s**t, however the a*****e dumping water on your sleeve would have been pickin up his teeth if it were me:eek:
Moron's!!, you know the saying, "stupid is as stupid does" really applies here.

Alrighy, my perspective:

Macs are great. Good computers, though I probably wouldn't buy one myself, but that's just because I'm a gamer and like to be able to get the video card that I want, not just those that I can find drivers for.

But that fact aside, in terms of getting stuff done and using computers productively... it really doesn't matter if it's a Mac or a PC. It annoys me when people don't understand this. From both sides... macs work great, but guess what... so do PCs. Let's leave it at personal preference and not harass the other side for it.

Mac vs. PC commercials. For the PC sympathizers, these are incredibly infuriating. Okay Apple, are we done with the negative advertising campaign yet? It feels like a political campaign all year round (though the presidential stuff has remained fairly clean, admittedly).

Inferiority. Mac users aren't inferior because they use macs. Likewise, PC users aren't inferior because they use PCs. Easy enough? No, apparently not.

I was reading a comment thread on engadget and a fellow was expressing him opinion and then disclaimed that he wasn't actually a mac owner but would be in a couple hours... fair enough. It sparked an unnecessary quarrel.

For reference, here's the thread: http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/11/snow-leopard-to-drop-powerpc-support/comments/12600307/

I've Googled like mad to find the page in question but can't.

I'm in the market for a camcorder at the moment and have been reading lots of reviews and forums etc.

On one pages comments a lady had bought a camera and was commenting on how the camera didn't show up in iMovie and any files had to be converted before they could be imported into it. She said it was a good camera, well-made but it didn't work flawlessly with her Mac so she exchanged it for a different one.

Some guy replied with "Would you like a little cheese with your WHINE? So much for the holier-than-thou Mac owners! Guess everything just doesn't WORK, HUH?" and went on for about 4 paragraphs about how he hated Mac and Mac users are awkward etc.

The woman was just leaving her review and a little side-note for any Mac users thinking of buying the camera in question and the guy launches into a diatribe against all things Apple.

People like that are dangerous.

EDIT: found it in Google but can't get the actual article to load: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=southernfriedinfidel+whine&meta=

i switched from PC to Mac 6 months ago, and ever since i have been showing off features of OS X to my friends who use PCs. I never even noticed i did it until i read some other ppls response to this thread.
i don't really mean to act like i'm better for having a Mac, but i guess when i hear my friends complaining bout their PCs i just think of how easy it would be to do the same task that they are having problems with on my MacBook.
they get even madder when they try to tell me a way that a PC is better and i come back with a way that Macs can do the same thing in a better way, its actually pretty funny to see them get mad about it.
The most recent thing i did to piss them off was just closing my itunes window, and still was able to listen to music.
we were all sitting around with our laptops, one of my friends was watching me and saw me open itunes, started playing a song then closed it, but we could all still hear the music (better quality then there laptop speakers too). and the got all mad, thinking i had like another window open somewhere off the screen and i kept trying to explain to them but they didn't get it.
then i also challenged my friend to make a website faster than me, it took me about a day and he took like a week and mine turned out better, and i just used the free software i got with iLife, while he was using some other program that he had to go buy seperately...
Macs are better than PCs, and when u show off your Mac they turn into *******s. gotta learn to live with it

Another BS call here too

Macs are better than PCs,

They're really not. They're the same, and in terms of build quality, Mac laptops lag behind some PC manufacturers. OSX is better than XP for some stuff, XP is better than OSX for other stuff. One is not 'better' than the other. It's this blinkered resorting to absolutes that feeds the hatred between fanboys from both sides.

Another BS call here too

Seriously. Admit it, how many of you guys here are just drinking the Apple kool-aid? That is why people hate Mac users. They're too dense to see reality and think their @#$% doesn't stink. They act so pretentious yet they forget they came out of a vagina like the rest of us.

Macs are great and I love Leopard as much as the next guy, but get over yourselves. People hate Mac users for the same reason people hate hardcore, fanatical, religious people (I mean like the kinds who go around telling people they're going to hell).

They're biased and aren't man enough to admit it.

As a 25 year apple user, ex apple employee, and being certified with a Store in Mexico city I have seen this argument over the years... and it will continue and MORE SO because Apple is selling stuff like hotcakes for the last 5 years.

If you like Windows and Microsoft, congratulations YOU DESERVE THEM.

Some of us like to use other tools like Macs, Unix, Ubuntu heck even PRODOS and we deserve what we like.

Its preference and what we need to do, if some hate you for what you have and what you buy and like, its not worth it, stupid people exist on both sides of any situation, the trick is being happy for what you choose and research so you dont make mistakes (thos applies for almost anything not just Computers and OSs)a
