Anways my friend tells me its the linksys and gives me the password for his wpa and it wouldnt work. Then I go into asking his roommate if the password is right and tells me that its correct yet it wont let me connect. Then he tells me that everything is used ethernet at the place while their nintendo wii is on wifi.. hmm..

Did you ever stop to think that they had assigned mac addresses to prevent piggybacking and since yours was never input the router was blocking you even though you had the password?

As others have pointed out, this doesn't sound like a PC vs Mac issue. If any of my so called friends passively told me to f*** myself, I really wouldn't consider them friends at all - and I'd take whatever laptop I had with me and I'd break it over their heads.;)

pc users

hahaha when i got my new Imac 2.44ghz 20inch, 2 of my friends came over and i was showing them the effects of tge isight camera and they both loved it. When one of those friends told me his computer was basically stuffed and he said he was getting a new one soon i said get a mac and he said NO!!!!!,i said why not he said coz they suck so i laughed and walked away.

weird?

People's excuse is always "Macs can't play games and if they do it's not as well as PCs"

My response:

First off, they can play games... run bootcamp and install some games, they work fine. Also, who the **** plays video games all their life? Is that the only excuse you can come up with cause it's the only one that's "kinda" valid, and they know that's the only big point against Macs.

:)
when people say mac's can't play, they mean the operating system. apple laptops are just hardwares, but with a different operating system. so when you say "macs can play", you are spreading misinformation. mac's still dont' play.

you install boot camp, then install WINDOWS, and WITHIN WINDOWS you play games. put it simply, you are playing games on Windows.

Honestly, I think you are applying your own 'bias' as a technophile to the general population.

The vast majority of people don't 'love' Windows and 'hate' Macs or vice versa. The vast majority of the general population just use a computer and don't really care, and they'd probably use a Mac (if it wasn't too expensive in their minds or they weren't 'used' to Windows).

You tend the see a 'hate' of one side or the other only in people who have an interest in computers beyond seeing the computer as a tool.

so many of you are complaining about the source of hostility towards macs supposedly being rooted in ignorance, well how about this?

Thing is , yes they are a little more expensive but a Mac can run both the major OS's , nuff said .

OSX can run on a "regular PC", only the OSX's license agreement states that one is not allowed to install OSX on any other machine but one made by Apple. so even if the OS is legal it won't be legal anymore if installed on hardware by a different manufacturer. "nuff" said

another thing about the "regular PCs" - it seems all of you don't realize what this simple acronym stands for. anyone here working on a non-personal computer? and don't tell me you mean PC in the original sense of the term, that would mean a PC is a computer manufactured by IBM. not to mention, Apple was one of the companies that popularized the term back in the 80s. so want to keep pretending you're not trying to separate yourselves from other brands' users? acknowledge you are too using a PC, a PC manufactured by a company called Apple and running one of many OSs from the UNIX family

and about "both major OSs" - look at statistics, Windows is (unfortunately, but still) overwhelmingly more popular than any other OS. far behind it there's OSX and Linux, being more or less 1% apart from each other. comparing it to over 80% (if not 90%) held by Windows, it's plain ignorance (or purposeful manipulation of facts) to single out OSX as one of two major OSs

so basically yes, I have to agree with my initial statement. the hostility towards Macs is rooted in ignorance. in ignorance of Mac users, who are willing to use an operating system which, as admitted by its "creators" and followers, is intended for those who are not able to comprehend the use of a 2-button mouse. and why did I use quotes when stating the creators? because OSX is no original creation of Apple, it's just a relatively new flavour of an OS that has been around since the 70s. it's a well-known fact (though often naively rejected by ignorant Mac users) that Apple likes to borrow software from the Open Source world, rename it and present as their own (same thing with WebKit being just a slightly enhanced version of KHTML). what Apple sells is design, it's the only aspect that they truly bring to the machines they stamp their logo on. all the rest, both hardware- and software-wise, is not unique nor exclusive to Macs

Of course OSX can run on a regular 'PC' I'm not saying it wont ,what I am saying is that at this current time , a Mac is invaluable to those who run both Windows & OSX applications as it is the only machine that can do so .....legally of course as I tend not to discuss illegalities such as installing a copy of OSX on a non Apple product , I am not that way inclined , you may be however , feel free to carry on ...

...as I was saying , a Mac is an invaluable tool to those (who use computers legally of course ) running both the major OS's a Mac provides a ( albeit legal) way of having the ability to run both Mac OSX & Windows at the same time, on the same machine , thus making the slightly higher price tag , worth it .

Actually manbearpig, I am aware of MacOSX origins but it is a fact( like it or not) that Apple is a major player in the computer market thus making their version of UNIX one of the major OS's windows unfortunately being the other , you may not like that Apple is in the position it is , but they are major players nonetheless.

I must say that you actually made me LOL when you said

..as I always refer to my computer as a PC except when being descriptive of its 'type' in forums , such as this one as I'm not the type of guy who parades his stuff around & shows off etc , I don't need to ! - oh and the two button mouse thing .... hehe that ol' chestnut jeez , gimme a break

You have made me laugh but I will thank you not to refer to me as a "pretender" , "ignorant" or "manipulative" as none of those words would describe me very well, at all.

I don't really give a damn what others think. I never showcase anything, I never babble how awesome it is, I never tell others to get a Mac. In response no negative comments, ever. Sometimes I get some comments like "everything is messed up in OS X, horribly arranged" etc similar, I'll just say "you'll figure it out".

I think that people hate mac users because mac users way too often act like some goddamn evangelists and jehova witnesses with their zealous defensing. just give it a rest. there will always be some pc-user who tells that macs suck, so why not just smile and say "ok?" instead of going on and on like someone who just had a miracle...

I read through this entire thread so my post was a general reaction to the mindscape presented by those who were posting here, so not everything refers directly to you. I should have stated it earlier

what is so invaluable in the fact that you can run both OSX and Windows on the same machine? I can see why it's invaluable to Mac users to be able to have Windows installed, as faulty as it often is, what I can't see is why a Windows user would want to also run OSX? for what? it's really funny that even Microsoft, often criticized and penalized for its monopoly strategies, is more permissive in this matter while Apple doesn't want to let go of their precious software to those that are not willing to pay hard cash for the hardware. imagine what would happen if the significant part of Mac's user-base turned out to be more into the dummy-proof simplicity of the OS and wanted to use it on their "ordinary" best-buy machines? OSX is closer to Windows than you might think. the success of both of them is fueled by powerful corporations standing behind them, if Linux is only 1% of market share behind OSX, imagine what would happen if it was a closed-source application developed and advertised by a multibilliondollar company with a staff of top-notch well-paid IT engineers. if you think of this, you may even ask why the heck OSX's market share isn't anything even close to 10% with all this fuss and hype on one side and resources on the other. it's easy to say that Windows is so widely used because they monopolized the market by not playing fair. Apple is following the exact same strategies while trying hard to seem to be an alternative

want to talk about legalities? you know what the GPL states? do you realize that if Apple was to follow its rules, Safari would have to be open-source and GPL as well? Apple is a parasite opportunistic company, just like Microsoft. but why am I even saying this to someone, who will go 'LOL' over this plus some more PoKem'oh-nisch jibberish that I'm sorry but I don't quite understand. you may laugh at me pointing out the meaning of PC but if any group seems incapable of calling objects by their concepts and not trademarks, it's the MACies. desktop, laptop, mp3 player, cell phone - these are phrases that one rarely hears from (collective and general, with exceptions) you. imac™, macbook™, ipod™, iphone™ extensively used as concepts on all sorts of occasions, most of the time the brand mention totally unnecessary. I don't see statements such as "I was working on my HP/IBM/Dell/Asus/etc..." or "I was listening to music on my Creative/Toshiba/Sony/etc..." while the mention of the term Mac or whatever other iStuff as a replacement for laptop/desktop and other gadgets is way too common and that's what people are fed up with. and if the author of this thread really wanted to know what some folks have against Macs, perhaps he shouldn't have asked on a forum where the Macs are being praised

Fair enough but you are a bit too quick off the mark with the insults seeing as that was your first post here .

I don't know why a windows user would use OSX ( apart from windows itself) but the fact it is possible to do makes a Mac a great tool in the business world ,,,,maybe some windows / OSX users can clarify that for you ?? this is my opinion & I think that having the possibility to run both is great and kudos to Apple for allowing it .

it's really funny that even Microsoft, often criticized and penalized for its monopoly strategies, is more permissive in this matter while Apple doesn't want to let go of their precious software to those that are not willing to pay hard cash for the hardware. imagine what would happen if the significant part of Mac's user-base turned out to be more into the dummy-proof simplicity of the OS and wanted to use it on their "ordinary" best-buy machines? That's just the way it is just now , Apple & Microsoft have the money and are marketing there products , that's what big companys do , sell stuff .
I know that sometimes these companys don't play fair ....thats the way of companys such as these unfortunately ...it's way of the world too .. .....

If Linux was backed by a billion dollar business it too would be up there being sold to average Joe user and maybe a machine would be made to run all three ......I would think that was invaluable too

want to talk about legalities? you know what the GPL states? do you realize that if Apple was to follow its rules, Safari would have to be open-source and GPL as well? Apple is a parasite opportunistic company, just like Microsoft.
Well like I said ....thats the way of the world , unfortunately

but why am I even saying this to someone, who will go 'LOL' over this plus some more PoKem'oh-nisch jibberish that I'm sorry but I don't quite understand.

There you go again ...lashing out the insults ...you don't know me !! , I simply use that 'term' as this is the net and , well I was trying to keep the conversation light !!!obviously you do understand what it means and simply enjoy throwing personal insults about to try and back up your comments .

you may laugh at me pointing out the meaning of PC
Actually, I was again trying to keep the chat light by sympathizing with you , I was laughing with you as opposed to at you !!

but if any group seems incapable of calling objects by their concepts and not trademarks, it's the MACies. desktop, laptop, mp3 player, cell phone - these are phrases that one rarely hears from (collective and general, with exceptions) you. imac™, macbook™, ipod™, iphone™ extensively used as concepts on all sorts of occasions, most of the time the brand mention totally unnecessary. I think this just really boils down to a 'type' of person ....you know, the ones that show off [ insert materialistic product of your choice here] and tell anyone who will listen to "look at my new" [insert product here]
Show off's are out there and well I suppose Apple just attracts folk like that , as do many other companys ( there I go again sympathizing with you ...I must be mad or very chilled , hmmm)

and if the author of this thread really wanted to know what some folks have against Macs, perhaps he shouldn't have asked on a forum where the Macs are being praised

Personally I think there have been some objective & honest comments in this thread , both from Mac & Windows users it's just when folk who are a little too fanatical or drink too much coffee ( or both)chime in that it begins to get silly

:)

It's been my experience that people hate mac users are because they had the displeasure of meeting mac users who think they are smarter and cooler than people who use PCs. Being a mac user myself I also hate mac users who think they are smart and cool just because they use a mac.

DING DING DING!

Question answered, end of thread.

Tired of PC vs MAC

Here is the story:

Windows users are happy and comfortable with Windows.

OS X users really love their operating system.

OS X user take every chance to show off their features, in a way how a big dog loves to lick his thing in front of everybody else.

Windows users love to defend it like a guy who is defending his 4” thing, which he makes into 8” by adding 3rd party apps.

So please move on.

So you decided to dig out this old thread to say that? Move on indeed.

In my experience, the vast majority of people that use Windows-based machines are those that have a very limited knowledge of computers to begin with, and so either jump to erroneous conclusions much faster or get puffed up with themselves because they bought some Dell laptop with all the shiny little buttons and decals on it. After all, anybody would know that the more little stickers the computer comes with the more awesome it is!

But really, maybe it's because Mac users are so dang cool they can't stand it.. You know, sour grapes type of thing.

Well I was at school and I asked a teacher in the I.T department for a DVI cable for my Mac so that I could do a class presentation. So I asked and she was like "Oh, so you're a Mac user?" and I said, "Yeah! Anything wrong with that?" Then she started to talk about how Macs don't have as much features as Windows and crash and I was saying that Macs are built on UNIX and don't have as many crashes as Windows and how Leopard now has over 200 features. I mean come on, I was only asking for a DVI cable!!! :p

But my friends like the fact that they have a Mac friend and love the Mac's design and stuff. And they love using Photo Booth! :D Not to mention the number of celebrities using macs.

I have the same problem

every time i want to talk to friends about computers they always spring the " Yeah, but PCs are beter" thing on me. I say, its only an opinion, and they get mad and go, no, no, it is not an opinion. i say fine, and that pretty much ends the conversation.

Why are the PC users so aggresive twords me (and probably other macintosh users)?

If anything has arisen from this thread, I'd say you've definitely managed to sum up in a nicely compact post why so many Microsoft+PC users think Apple users are w*****s.

sounds like insecurity manifesting itself as agression. I think it's better to come off as a little smug and or arrogant than getting mad....

I think PC users are jealous of how apple stuff works seamlessly, all the time. Where ever there are lovers, there's haters.

Holy old thread, Batman! :D

While that post of mine is a tad juvenile I see now looking back on it, I stand by my hypothesis that most PC users, in my vast experience, have been very, very ill-informed† about their machines and, surprisingly, very aggressive about what little they know.

Microsoft has done very little to educate the bulk of their customers. One must only look at their latest, highly misleading television advertisements to understand.
