So they pull the packages early? I was under the impression they do it at the end of the day. I will do this then.

If you'll be at home it's not as big a deal, unless like Dirtydutch says, you want it in the morning. But I would have liked the option as I'll probably be at work and don't want over a thousand dollars just sitting on my front porch for God knows how long.

I've had a ton of UPS and Fedex packages held. Probably 90% I can pickup the same day as the scheduled delivery. Every now and then, it might be 1 day delay.

It depends on your proximity...

I happen to live in the same county as my local UPS CC so it is an easy to get the hold for pickup in, and when the device makes its way in it is automatically pulled for same day pickup.

Sometimes the drivers of some delivery companies mark that you weren't at home and don't even ring the bell or knock. They've even done that at my work building which has staff there 24/7.

UPS is really good about trying to make contact at the front door in my experiences, but I can't speak for other carriers.

I did it for the Air Pods because I didn't want it to arrive after I'd left for work and sit on my doorstep unattended at my apartment. The FedEx I chose was 24 hours so I'd also be able to pic it up anytime after being notified it was ready. If I'd have gotten an 11/10 delivery for the X I would have done it again as I'd be out of town. It can be very convenient if you need it to be.

Last year I held it since I was traveling later that day. I picked it up in the am and was at the airport later on.

So I was able to get two iPhone x's for both of my lines. I thought I did all the updating I needed for shipping information on my Apple account and didn't cross my mind that my att account had my old address. So when I ordered, I chose the next plan and I guess it defaults to the att account address. So now it's being delivered to my old UPS store po box which I don't have anymore. I called the UPS store and they said they will hold it for me but I don't trust them. I would rather have the shipping carrier hold it at my local pickup center wether it's ups or FedEx. Can I request to have the shipping carrier hold it at my local pickup center or will they force the ship to my att account invalid address?

It's good to know it won't be sitting outside if you're not there. And also, the time difference for me is 11 hours :D (my delivery often comes at 7pm (I know....)

Anyway, it's easy. I guess it also depends on the depot.

Do you think requesting a delivery change will cause a delay?

No, if anything, your phone may be available sooner.

A phone that arrives at 11am to the depot will be available for pickup that same day. It certainly won't be on a delivery truck that day.

Unless it is a pain to pick it up yourself, I would rather the package not sit on a truck and be at the mercy of whoever is driving the truck. I’ve done it both ways, and usually fedex is easier to deal with, and has better hours to have a package held at their office. But there are several advantages going the pick up route. Less chance of the phone being damaged, you aren’t held hostage all day waiting for the driver to show up, and you cannot run into the situation of the driver showing up at the same time you’re in the bathroom and decides not to stick around 2 second after his light knock.

With my 6s Plus pre-order, I walked into the UPS bay at my local distribution center at 6:40am on release day and walked out with my phone 10 min later. YMMV

I didn't have to sit at home all day waiting for the delivery man...

I have everything delivered to my local UPS store. They sign for everything especially when I'm away on an extended business trip.

I’ve never done this but will try to this year. I pray it doesn’t end up delaying me by a day somehow

Yes. Just sign up for a free UPS My Choice account https://www.ups.com/mychoice/welcome.html and you have options to hold at facility or choice the delivery window. If you have a premium account you can narrow the window down to within 1 or 2 hours. FedEx has a similar service that allows you to do the same thing.

Because I work and won't be home all day.

And because otherwise the usually hit my neighborhood pretty late, usually after 6 and as late as 8.
