So they pull the packages early? I was under the impression they do it at the end of the day. I will do this then.
Typically with Fedex and if you request a hold for pick up at your nearest Fedex Office Ship and Print Center, they drop it off there early morning. 100% of the time it's ready for pick up before 9 am. So rather than waiting the Fedex to come to my door at 4-5 pm I'd rather drive to the Fedex Office of my choice and pick it up. Plus I don't have to worry about my expansive item going missing.

Ups doesn’t deliver to my house at a set time ever. Sometimes they deliver around 3 and sometimes around 8.

I don’t like waiting all day and risk them coming when I’m not at home then have to wait until the following Monday. So I always pick it up at the hub in the morning.

is there an advantage here? I will be home all day.

In case people are away for the day..

With my 6s Plus pre-order, I walked into the UPS bay at my local distribution center at 6:40am on release day and walked out with my phone 10 min later. YMMV

I didn't have to sit at home all day waiting for the delivery man...

That’s why I always do instore pickup. But I have a store really close

I work so I won’t be home. Last year they had it first thing in the morning, not only for myself but for everyone. There was a line of people there.
It’s just more convenient for me. But, I might have it delivered this year. My friend/roommate has the same last name as me so I’ll just let him accept it.

Yes they do. If you do pick-up especially at a hub, it is not loaded in the truck for delivery so you can pick-up at your convenience.

UPS never delivers before the end of the day (almost 8PM). The one time they delivered earlier (Apple Watch), it was when my wife had left the house for a total of 15 minutes and I missed the delivery.

Hold for pick up, I can get my phone the first thing in the morning. I prefer store pick up though. Love the Launch Day atmosphere.

So for the last 2 years of launches, I put new iPhone deliveries on hold for UPS CC pickup. But this year, out of using 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, and 1 MacBook Pro trying to get in on Apple Store preordering, my wife's iPhone was the first one in at 3:05am. So both of our iPhone X preorders are under her name, and she has to work at office on 11/3. Good thing I started teleworking at home full time, so I can wait for this UPS driver and make sure no crooks are tailing behind to steal packages.

UPS in my case loves coming after 5PM so when a signature is needed I always request a hold for pickup at my local CC 10 minutes away and can pick it up at whatever time works for me. Beats being forced to stay home and wait for the truck or filling out the pre signature form and letting an expensive package sit out in the open.

The only advantage I perceive is perhaps being able to pick it up early in the day as opposed to having a "late in the day" delivery. UPS almost always delivers packages late in the day for me. Fed Ex, on the other hand, is always early. So, for me, if it could be arranged (yes, i have UPS My Choice) it would be better to just have them hold it and pick it up myself. But, knowing how UPS usually screws up I can see me going to pick it up only to find out that it's on the truck for delivery. o_O

Same here. I always seem to get late deliveries from UPS. I believe I might have asked you on another post (sorry if I did this) but what is a local "CC"?

Okay I might do it BUT I’m gonna call ups and ask them if I change it will there be a delay

Oh I put up the release paper so it’s no problem

You can’t count on the release paper: the driver has the discretion to not leave the package even though you’ve signed the release if they think the theft risk is too great. For an iPad delivery, I was watching my Fedex driver: when he saw the release on my door, he put the iPad back in his truck and got a door tag. I went outside and got the iPad from him, but he said he wasn’t going to leave any iPads even with a signed release. I’ve had other items not delivered when I’ve relied on that release, too, because I was in the bathroom, backyard, or just didn’t hear the doorbell. I don’t live in a high risk area, either. If you’re home, keep your eye vigilant for the truck.

Having the package held at the Customer Center (the Hub, not a UPS store) has been much more reliable for me.

I did this once a few years ago for my Apple Watch At a UPS customer center . It worked pretty well but still weary of trying it again. If it get delayed a day then it won’t be available till Monday.

You control the time. You save your package from getting loaded on a truck, and being driven all around the city without air conditioning. I’ve had so many packages come hot to the touch. Save a little risk of damage from the additional transport. Prevent the risk of misdelivery.

If you watch how they load these trucks, you’d know that holding is better. They will literally just toss boxes in the back like they are throwing dirty laundry.

I’ve done this for all of my phones the last few years, and it’s always been ready for pickup at UPS on the day on which it would’ve been delivered.

CC stands for Customer Center

is there an advantage here? I will be home all day.

It allows you the opportunity to pick your phone up at your convenience, as opposed to sitting home all day waiting for the doorbell. Also, it's a surefire way around the rare, but real douche of a delivery dude who doesn't bother to ring the bell, but rather, just leaves the "we missed you" tag on your door, and further delaying your delivery (this happened to me several years ago on an iPhone launch day delivery).

Okay . . . am I correct in assuming that these are "official" locations as opposed to the UPS stores?

They aren’t UPS stores. These are main hubs (distribution centers) where packages are brought in on the large trucks and then sorted to put on the delivery trucks. They’re very large facilities, and they have an area where customers can pick up items that are held there.

just got off phone with UPS, my phone shipped today, to ask them if having it held will delay it, they said once it clears US customs they can check in the system whether or not requesting the hold will cause a delay.

Typically, having your package HELD at the CC/Hub will NOT delay delivery/availability... but having it rerouted to a UPS STORE will add one business day to the delivery/availability.
