I actually wear pretty baggy clothing, but nice try. I like 3.5" because I barely feel it in my pocket, and it's easy to use one-handed while carrying a bunch of crap with the other arm and walking down the street.

Believe it or not I actually feel iPhone more than my S3. S3 is pretty light so that makes up for the added real estate.

Heavier lends a feeling of better quality. I've always thought the lighter iPhone 3G/3GS felt cheaper than either the original iPhone or the current iPhone 4/4S, although the plastic case and its poor fit and finish didn't help.

Wait, so you have convinced yourself that the S3 being a whopping 7 grams, about 5%, lighter makes you feel the iphone more? This while the S3 is 21 mm taller and 12 mm wider? The human brain's ability to deceive its owner never ceases to amaze me.

This sounds almost as wild as the claim that the S3 at 0.7 mm thinner (that's less than 0.028 of them inches) feels much thinner in the pocket.

Don't iPhone users also want a bigger screen?? Is there something I'm missing?

Not all of us need a bigger screen. I'm quite content with the current form factor of the 4s.

Remember that only a small percentage of smartphone users consume content on their phones in great quantities. Majority of the consumers hardly use even some of the basic features that you and I use many times a day.

The majority is what drives sales. And the Majority of consumers text, talk & possibly play a couple of apps if they ever even stumble in to the app store at some point.

The original iPhone was a brick.

If you want your phone to be heavier to feel more sturdy, so be it. I'd rather it be lighter.

1. If you like a wider phone, stay with the Android. No one stopping you. So why do you rant about Apple not having one ? Just leave and enjoy your Android.
...
Let's say you're married to the most beautiful woman in the world. Absolutely perfect in every way. ...except that she sucks her teeth the entire time she's eating. The first year or two you over look this because she's the girl of your dreams, but eventually, you want to reach over the table and strangle her with your bare hands.

Kind of like the iPhone having a pathetically small screen for such an otherwise great phone.

So those of you who think that a larger screen size is necessary, how is the current screen size holding you back?

Interesting analogy Sedrick

But sorry, the two are not the same. Some keep their cars for 5 or more years without going batty. Some keep their computers until they die out, some keep their homes for 20/30 years. Now that is an analogy. I keep my phones until they quit on me, but I understand some FANATICs change every year and that is just plain silly..

If the screen is 4 inches tall, I'll be a happy camper for many years. Those that don't like it, once again, there are many wider Android and Windows phone to select from, so hurry up and get one, be happy. ;)

except in your scenarios, the main reason they keep their car or house is because they can't afford to replace/upgrade, not because they don't want to.

The current 3.5 inch screen is too small.

The bottom line is that Apple knows the phone landscape around them is changing drastically with larger and larger screens. They also know how much money went into developing the 4/4S design and with this new iPhone they tried to blend the need for a larger screen with the design and packaging of the current generation iPhone.

In my opinion that was the wrong direction because even though there are many customers who will buy nothing but an iPhone to replace their 4/4S, that percentage of customers has decreased from the days of the 3G and are looking to get the most for their money especially in these times. A larger screen(Android) is very tempting.

fine with a taller screen - don't need a wider screen. pretty satisfied with the existing form factor, don't want something too large to fit in pocket or too heavy or too battery-consuming.

too big to fit in pocket? are leather pants back in fashion?

I am currently using a GS3 that I "rented" for $35 for the next month (restocking fee)... It fits in my pocket great. I notice it less than my iPhone... So people are misinformed when it comes to the pocket issue

My hands are small, so it is harder to use with one hand then my iPhone for sure... but not when it comes to texting... Using swipe with one hand is much easier than typing on my iPhone with one hand.

I do like the screen, and the GS3 is WAY better than the GS2, which I used to have for work... but I am too invested in iOS and other Apple products with my accessories, apps, music, and such. My work phone is only a 16 GB model, and it is so annoying to have to select what music I want and don't want. Especially since I listen to audiobooks in my car since my work commute is 40 minutes each way, those take up a bunch of space, especially when you are talking about 15-20 hours of audio with some books.

Interesting. So a MacBook Air feels like it has less quality than a heavier laptop?

Or a new, lighter iPad feels cheaper than the original?

I think that lighter can often indicate being far more modern, exclusive and personal.

True, it depends on the use. Lighter is better for laptops, running shoes, racing bikes, car parts (i.e. carbon fiber), etc. Heavier indicates better quality in speakers, jewelry, etc. It goes both ways.

The GS3 feels heavier than the GS2 did... At least it seems that way to me. I havent held them both at the same time though.

My GS2 felt cheap, the plastic did... the GS3 is a much better phone and it feels like it is as well. Android has improved a lot, but I think I will still get the new iPhone because I have too many accessories.

EDIT: Accessories with AirPlay (Zeppelin Air and Apple TV)... a few of them I will need an adapter for with the new dock connector

You are either kidding or using the lame "fit in pocket" excuse. The Galaxy SIII as big as it is fits easily in any pocket. As for heavy? You must be the biggest weakling on earth to be even remotely concerned of a phone being too heavy

indeed, the "fit in pocket" excuse is so overused...and the "too heavy" argument doesn't make sense either considering the S3 (4.69 oz) is lighter than the 4S (4.9 oz).

If the upcoming iPhone has the fractionally larger battery than the 4s with a larger screen and LTE, prepare for a stroke when it comes to your battery life.

A 4.3 inch phone is far from being a tablet, in fact its not even close.

I'm reminded of an argument I got into with a cheerleader in the 70's over the danger of marajuana. She went on and on about how "I've seen what it's done to too many people!". We're talking about a 15 year old cheerleader who had no idea what she was talking about (I did, lol). She was just repeating what she'd been told or seen on the TV to scare her into being a good little girl.

Much like what people around here say about how bad and huge and heavy a larger screen phone is and how it would never fit in their pockets, (even if it was only 1/8" wider), when in fact, most have no idea what they're talking about, but will still shout it from the mountain tops just the same.

Just go on comparing a 4.3" phone to a tablet. You're just showing your ignorance.

WHY in God's name are you comparing a Macbook to an iPhone! They are 2 completely different devices! Please elaborate on your comment because to me I would rather have a lighter computer or laptop, and have a heavier smartphone. A Macbook is not something you carry in your pocket.

It makes sense now, you want every owner of the new iPhone to have a larger phone (even if they do not want a larger phone), because you are high.

:D

Kidding of course (well kind of), but honestly if the phone is not what you like then buy from another company, seems like there is a lot of time spent trying to persuade folks to like what "you" like. Everyone is different and if they do not want a larger phone then god bless, the iPhone is perfect for them (and me i might add)
