I like how people say they can't fit larger phones in their pocket, what are you wearing? Latex pants??? You are way to accustomed to your iPhones everyone! I can perfectly fit my friends Galaxy Note in my skinny jeans pocket without it being uncomfortable. Seriously? Are your hands really that small to find larger than iPhone screen sizes retaining? I really want to know.

Apple needs to step up with the new iPhone because the rumors are horrendous. Smartphones are and will continuously get bigger and more advanced and Apple, as sad as it is, is just late to the party. :(

1. If you like a wider phone, stay with the Android. No one stopping you. So why do you rant about Apple not having one ? Just leave and enjoy your Android.

2. Bigger Android phones for the future ? Goodness, what in the world would anyone want a larger/wider cell phone for ? Some are way to big as it is. There are iPads and iPad mini's for the larger stuff.

3. Smartphones, yes, will get more advanced, but it does not mean they have to get so large as to look funny holding it to ones ear.

I want a manufacture to give me something that is comfortable to hold, even with my larger hands. I want something like Apple. That is why I stay away from Androids. You have Androids, so stop the whining and buy what ever they produce. Stay with their forums as well. You will be among friends

Owning an Android phone doesn't preclude one from participating in an Apple forum. I don't use an iPhone either, but I have owned one, and I do own other Apple products. So please stop with the back handed comments regarding Android (not just specifically you on this one). People choose to own Android despite the iPhone being king of the hill right now. I made a conscious decision to stick with Android because, just as Apple does for you, Android simply works for me.

Doesn't Android have a larger market share than iOS in the mobile phone market?

I have an iPhone and prefer iOS but I don't think Apple dominates that segment of the market.

I thought Android had the larger market share but not by much.

1. Ermm, no I don't own an Android phone, dunno who told you that. I own an iPhone 4s and have and iPad 2, I greatly enjoy iOS.

2. Who's going to tell Apple to make the next iPhone wider or have a bigger screen? The CONSUMERS. Maybe Apple's design engineer employees will read my post on this forum and make an educated decision based on consumer opinion. Maybe I will change the next iPhone. Who knows?

I have the right to argue my opinion and so do you, so you shouldn't be telling me I'm whining, or to get off this forum.

You are correct. Market share slightly belongs to Android. I just don't understand how uninformed people hate on Android (or Apple, or any other company for that matter) just to hate. Make your own decisions, don't let one company make it for you. The iPhone is certainly a top notch device, but there are plenty of Android phones that, to me, work just as well, if not better, yet some people act as if Android users are infected with the bubonic plague. My Galaxy Nexus is the best device I have ever owned, and that includes a long line of phones dating back to 2004. The iPhone 4 may be the second best I have owned.

Android phones have more market share, but Apple is king of profits. with 17% market share they made 74% of the profit.

Jobs declared the current screen the "sweet spot" for mobile phones.

I suspect their research indicates overwhelming support for the current screen size.

Maybe 5 years ago with the latest battery technology at the time, and the screen technology at the time. It doesn't sound like a long time ago, but in technology its a full generation+ ago.

I'll tell you this from a devoted Apple user... one who stood in line for the original iPhone and has been a mac user most of my life... If the new iPhone doesn't blow me away, i.e. much bigger screen (4.3"+), NFC, MUCH better camera, more memory, slimmer, lighter, etc, then i'm running out and getting a galaxy S3 that day. That phone is good enough for me to consider the change just to have the best phone i can buy. The reviews on it aren't lying, Apple's competitors have caught up and passed them at this moment. The GS3 >>> iPhone 4S.

Apple better blow me away.. thats all i'm saying. They have before, I have no reason to believe they won't again.

Apple holding out on the 'big screen' till they really need the volume push or better display technology evolves.

And what's so bad about considering women's use of smartphones? After all, they make more than 50% of the population.

It is perfectly fine with me, I could imagine a regular iphone and XL iphone.
It seems that Samsung got it first if finally produces this Galaxy s3 mini

To answer the original question, I will jot down what others have already mentioned. The smaller screen is perfect for one handed use. Especially when you are on a crowded train with only one hand that can be used. I think it would be much better, however, if Apple would reduce the weight of the phone. That is where other phones trump the iPhone in terms of portability.

I am still on the iPhone 4 and can't really think of any features (with the possible exception of 4G) that would get me to buy the next iPhone since the current ones does pretty much everything I need.

You are right Android phones are currently ahead in terms of hardware, but then that is because they are a generation ahead of Apple at the moment (have different product cycles). But they seem to all favouring the Nvidia Tegra3 at the moment which has a GPU not much better than the 4S.

Not sure what you want in a better camera. The current camera is fine for me. The only thing I would want is increased light sensitivity the ability to set aperture and shutter. The latter isnt a biggie since i use the iphone as a point and shoot. I bring out my Nikon for more serious shooting. More pixels doesn't interest me. In fact, more pixels is mutually exclusive with increased sensitivity given the physical limitations imposes by sensor size.

I have no idea why Apple doesnt atleast go tp a 4.3 screen. The argument of one handed use just doesnt hold water, I have played around with a SGS3 and I can reach anywhere on the screen with my thumb...oh and it fits in my pocket as well. I dont want to switch to android but Apple may force me to if they dont atleast get up to 4.3". Most of my surfing and texting are done in landscape so a longer phone wont really help me.

I upgraded from iPhone to Galaxy S3 because of the screen. It is just too small for my fingers but I am not a huge fan of Android and Samsung so if Apple can find a way to release iPhone with a slightly bigger screen I will switch back to iPhone.

You doubt cost is part of the equation? Apple is all about maximizing profits. We're talking here about a company that settled with 256 MB of RAM for the first generation iPad because 512 MB of RAM would cost them $0.50 more.

Making money isn't the most important thing to Apple. At least that's what Ive said and why would he lie?

As someone who takes a lot of photos of my young child, I would really like a "burst mode" that the Galaxy/Android have to take a bunch of photos all at once and then select the best one. Also the shutter lag is extremely annoying with the iPhone. With the Galaxy its almost nil. More megapixels wouldn't hurt either. But of course i'm currently using an iPhone 4, not 4S.

New iPhone5

I have to tell you, I sincerely hope that all these leaked pictures of the new iPhone to be released in Sept. are false. I have an iPhone 4/s and the leaked pictures show virtually no difference. Is this the best they can do. I hope the pictures are so far off that Apple will surprise everyone.

Don't get your hopes up too high, because these leaks are it.

I have a feeling the pictures are pretty accurate, they have been the last few times. I agree with you that it would be disappointing. Like I said, it would make my decision to switch to Android for my next phone easy.
