I want a date with Mila Kunis. We don't always get what we want.

Get a battery case or get android.
I have an android phone. Is it wrong to want an IPhone that lasts as long as my android? It’s like some of you people just accept what Apple gives you and don’t ever wish they offered more. I know it’s hard to fathom, but there are multiple areas that Android owns Apple. The biggest one to ME is the fact no IPhone lasts 17 hours for me due to my usage and especially the fact my service at work is atrocious, so my battery gets chewed up looking for a signal all day.

I don’t want to use my power bank because I don’t like cords getting in the way, and I’m moving constantly. I don’t want a battery case because that adds way more bulk than a large internal battery. All I am asking for is an iPhone that doesn’t have a pathetically small battery. If a Max or xr lasts people 2-3 days of light usage on WiFi, how does that help me? I know Apple won’t offer it, it’s just a shame that even an Xr won’t make it through a 17 hour day due to the small battery and my terrible signal at work. I’m a fool, so I’ll probably buy the next xr and a smart battery case and just suck it up. I just don’t think I should have to do that.

The results on gsmarena speak for themselves

3g talk time?, what happened to Volte or WiFi calling.

GSM arenas tests need to be updated using modern standards, I can’t remember the last time my iPhone connected to a 3g network.

irregardless, Phone XS Max with an apple battery case just crushes those results anyway.

The iPhone XS Max with a battery case totaling 4,543mah would outlast the budget android with a 5000mah battery. The mophie case with 5373 mah would be overkill.

A power user would in fact pick a more powerful phone with a bigger battery over a budget phone (anemic processor) and a bigger battery.

I’m confident real Power users would have a battery case and several power banks.

Enjoy comparing your 2017 flagship iPhone to your 2019 budget phone .

Edit:
After watching that review think I’m going to order an apple battery case for my iPhone XS Max. Don’t really need it for day to day but a 4534mah iPhone Max could prove useful for the summer.
Thanks for the thread op.

I would have bought an xr, but it wasn’t available when I got my latest 8+. Maybe I’ll go for the next xr and a battery case. Every case I’ve ever seen isn’t as efficient as a built in battery, but I don’t know anything about these smart cases.

Sorry, I’m still stuck on the “power user” definition.

Honestly, iPhone doesn’t really have power user type applications the way a Mac or PC does

Well said. And usually people who are on their mobile phone so long that it doesn’t last through the day are considered addicts, hardly power users. But you can find a euphemism for anything I guess.

Doesn’t change the fact that you are comparing a 2019 budget android with a bigger battery to a 2017 iPhone with a regular battery, that has been fairly used. That wasn’t a fair comparison.

Apple accessories usually are worked into iOS by apple that’s as efficient as it gets.

“For starters, you never have to remove your iPhone from the Smart Battery Case to charge or maintain the case, because there’s nothing to maintain. It essentially becomes an extension of your iPhone, so there are no buttons to interface with, allowing you to use your iPhone just the same as you always do.
The Smart Battery Case is smart in the sense that it intelligently manages power distribution to your iPhone.”

I just ordered apples battery case, that should give my Xs Max a total of 4543 mah, but the xr with apples battery case actually lasts longer.

My 8+ is less than a year old, but I wasn’t comparing it in current form to my throwaway phone. I know from working here 10 years what a new iPhone can and can’t do. I replaced my xs max after a week due to horrible pwm headaches. At that time the xr was still a month away, so I had to get the 8+ again. If the xr was out, I would have grabbed one. There’s always this fall.

My biggest issue is I work in an area with awful signal strength. I’m not looking at my phone for 15 hours a day, but my phone will drain just sitting in my pocket looking for a signal, losing it and then finding it again. I think my best bet is the next xr and a smart battery case, if it is offered next year.

I gather you’re not blaming the iPhone, but your signal reception, but that’s an extreme case you’re experiencing. Naturally curious, Have you considered trying other carriers to determine if there is a stronger network in your work area or do you have any colleagues that have had better results with reception their phones?

T-Mobile sucks at my work, but it’s great everywhere else. I’ve been with them for nearly 15 years, and their plan is ideal for me and my family. Verizon and atnt are way better at work, but it’s not worth switching. Different areas of my work have better service, so when I move departments it’ll improve for me.

It’s kinda difficult to have any kind of discussion in this forum since most Apple users defend their iPhones like there’s no tomorrow.
Apple realized iPhone battery life is so bad they released battery cases, XS Max included which as supposed to have the best battery life given the battery size.
Android will always have better battery because unlike Apple, Android OEM’s actually care to increase their battery sizes without removing any ports.
I’m an Apple user and have no issues going on Apple over their messed up choices.
Just because you bought a new iPhone doesn’t mean you have to become Apple’s lawyer LOL.

So you think Apple would have had better sales had it a thicker and heavier iPhone?

I think there were enough people to warrant a solution (battery cases) but to assume that Apple messed up is something I'd have to disagree with. Thin sells, and Apple is selling by the millions. I don't think Apple would have increased their sales by making a thicker heavier iPhone.

Would have I bought a thicker/heavier iPhone? Hell yeah. But I don't think more people would have bought one had Apple done this.

For most people, battery life is good enough. For the few of us who want better, there are options (battery case, external batteries). And I have 4+ external batteries. Even though my Xs Max lasts me 3 days on a charge. Zombie apocalypse, it could happen!

Now excuse me while I cash this check written out to Apple Lawyer #09812. :)

Extended use is more appropriate. Maybe with rumored removal of 3D Touch there will be more internal space available for larger capacity battery. 4,000mAh seems to be the sweet spot for extended use while keeping slim profile.

Sure, apple users that are happy with the iPhones performance are the problem. /s

How’s you Samsung treating you?

If you want to use your device heavily then why not use your iPhone combined with the iPad. That works for me with my iPhone and two iPads infact

And you base this theory on the tremendous amount of people running around in public showing their iPhone battery cases? Funny I never saw one.

Battery is fine as is for the majority of users. And has been for a while.

Aside from LTE reception, battery life is one of the most subjective things anyone can debate/argue, why? No one will ever experience the same two battery statistics, there are perfect examples in this very thread where someone says the battery life on the Max is ‘horrible’ and others have said it’s the ‘best’ battery life they’ve ever used. It depends on when settings/usage, etc. I thought the Max had excellent battery life, but I’m also very conservative with how I use my iPhone in my settings and are specifically adjusted to the way I want them.

I think the real strong point to these larger phones today, more specifically the iPhone, isn’t just the battery life, but it’s how well iOS is managed that controls the battery life. My experience with android was never as good with the battery life as the iPhone has been with iOS. Case in point.

Apple has enough sales already for being brand dominant. Just go ask any teen from 10 to 25 years old, why they use an iPhone. Even if Apple would sell a phone with the screen sold separately it would still be successful because of the brand.
That argument about thickness doesn’t stick anymore since Apple has been making iPhones thicker than ever since iPhone 6S. Have you hold a XS Max on the hand? That thing is thick and heavy as heck.

Because taking an iPad in my pocket is not an option.

So you believe consumers only buy iPhones because of apples brand.

You are calling 7.7 mm thick.
Because that’s how thick the iPhone XS Max is, doesn’t sound like you ever held one.

Would rather listen to posters that have actually used the device over android users that haven’t here on macrumors.

No, but a battery case is an option to those that want two or three day battery lives.
One iPhone with a battery case is still more manageable than carrying an iPhone and a budget android phone with a large battery.

Which android phone are you currently using?

No, I actually made a reference to the real world. You on the other hand have not done anything but attempted to twist my question around. Ball is your park still. Where do you get the impression that the battery is insufficient for the majority of users? Certainly not from extracting opinions on an Internet forum, right? At least that opinion is not reflected widely even on this rather critical forum.

That's my point, increasing the battery on an already thick/heavy phone is only going to make it worse. Yeah, Apple could probably still be successful if it did what you said, but sales would plummet significantly.

I've owned: 5, 6+, 6s+, 8+, and now Xs MAX. I get them for the screen and battery. They're insanely thick/heavy with a case. Hence why I think increasing it is a bad thing.

Now if you mean the 8, Xs --- increasing those, I still think Apple would sell significantly more at their current weight. Would Apple still be successful? Yeah, but it would not be a smart business decision when the majority of people want a thinner/lighter phone.
