Thanks. If you have suggestions for everything else on my list, please let me know.

Your list has nothing to do with this thread, as it does not address anything in my original post. If you would like to contribute to our conversation, you could start by answering the question I asked you back on page 3:

Do you believe my assertion that no other device can fill the shoes of the apps I've described above is incorrect? If so, explain how.

I've started ignoring your posts, as you've been making some egregious claims, and keep asking questions that have already been addressed, sometimes in the very post you're quoting. I listed numerous features, apps and capabilities that are 100% verified as being iOS exclusives, not available on Android, yet in response you quoted what I wrote and said, "list something that your iPhone can do an Android phone can't".

seems like you are addicted to the app store and not the iphone. I don't see what the point of your topic is other than showing off that you need to keep your iphone. If you are trying to convince others to feel the same way as you you'd have to talk about more than just apps that are available to download.

I tend to agree here. He kept saying "i need a phone that"....... but never once mentioned the actual phone capability or texting or what he likes about those in the least.
Sounds like he just needs an iPad or just an iPod. Ipad if he needs a data plan. Maybe just a good camera. Who needs to use 29 different photo apps? Just blows me away really but i can also see why he wil never leave the iPhone. He has spent a lot of money of apps.
I dont have an iPad so i dont know if those apps would just go to the iPad that were already bought.

The funny thing is that he only "needs" those features because he's been using them.

Even though he prefers iOS, he could use an Android phone for a month and create a similar thread about Android.

No two platforms are the same; they offer different advantages and feature sets.

Agreed. Sounds like the OP wanted a thread where (a) everyone agreed that his use of apps was amazing and (b) he could justify his viewpoint that iOS is superior for his usage habits. Other posters have already pointed out many of the apps he's listed are also available on Android, but seems he doesn't want to hear that.

The number of photo apps that are being debated is ridiculous. Seriously, how many people have 20-30 photo apps that they use regularly? If you need that many, you're better of using something like Photoshop on your desktop where you can do everything in one hit. Must be a pain in the butt to have to open all those apps all the time, and an even bigger pain to do the editing on the iPhone screen.

Seriously mate, no-one is going to go through all 100 of your apps and come up with Android alternatives. Many individual Android alternatives have already been pointed out to you but you just put your fingers in your ears.

So, are those numbers with an undervolted CPU/GPU? Or are you yet to do that? Because if that's how your battery generally performs, I'd love to know how it did before the mod.

with two hours screen on it would've managed about 12 hours I'd say. The stats I posted were with the mod.

I agree with what you said in the last paragraph, well the beginning of it. I actually sat down for 20 minutes to start comparing apps. The problem is that he uses his phone differently then me. So it's nearly impossible for me to find an equivalent or better alternative when I find the iOS version useless too.

I suppose that actually is a significant improvement. But, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, isn't that still really lousy battery performance? Two hours screen time and 17 hours of standby, and the battery's charge is gone by two thirds? I mean..

I only need it to last from when I wake up to when I get home from work. Could probably make it last longer by disabling options if I needed to.

Who cares about your list of needs? You artificially picked up the applications that are not yet available on Android and then said that those are your needs. Rrrright. There are more applications that are unique for Android than there are those for iOS. That's one reason people are overwhelmingly choose Android phones over iPhone.

Whether we use IOS or Android, lets just agree that the OP wrote a beautiful post, and lets be happy for him since he really has found a way to integrate his iPhone into his daily routine.

WHo cares if it can be done better another way. He took a great deal of time writing the post and deserves some credit for helping many iPhone users realize the potential of their iPhones.
I no longer use an iPhone, but i was very impressed with his post.

cheers.

More important things to debate..Religion..politics...etc. haha

I actually believe this is the case for you...you've made it quite clear you like the iphone. Nothing really wrong with that..All the same, I don't think I could ever switch from an Android device to an Iphone and be happy. I'm not going to spend a lot of time explaining why but it is not a big deal...it really doesn't mean one device is better than the other. People are just different and require and like different things.

Do you believe my assertion that no other device can fill the shoes of the apps I've described above is incorrect? If so, explain how.

I'm new to the site and this is my first post. i really enjoyed most of what is posted here. There is some very informative stuff in this thread. Especially since I have finally ordered a 4s after living with Android since the Droid and Eris were released. I had the Eris, Incredible and now the Razr. The Incredible was my favorite of the three.

I just got tired of new phone after new phone being released and manufacturers forgetting about the phone they just released a few months back. After Moto released the Maxx and the Razr HD being right around the corner, I figured that I need to sell my Razr now while I can still get something for it.

I hate the fact that the OS is so fragmented and not all apps work with all phones or OS versions. I don't root or jailbreak and hate all the bloat that Verizon puts on their phones that I can't remove. I also think phones are just getting too damn big. My Razr is HUGE! I can't imagine a bigger screen than 4.3".

Although the iPhone is a bit small, it is the same size as my Incredible was. I'd rather have it be a little on the small side than too big. I think 4" is the sweet spot.

Some things I will miss though are Google Maps/Navigation, Swiftkey X keyboard (I was able to type entire text messages by only choosing the words, not individual letters) and widgets. They areally are cool to have and I hope Apple sees to it that they are in a future version of iOS.

I will also miss not having a SD card slot (I have a 64 GB card in my Razr now), but since I have unlimited data and got a 32GB 4s, I should not have a problem.

I am looking forward to a single OS and form factor. I am also looking forward to all of the third-party accessories that are available for the iPhone. I really need a good speaker dock that works with my phone. I picked up the Soundfreaq with the FM radio app but could never get it to work right with my Razr, so I returned it. The answer that I got from Soundfreaq support was that there are just so many different Android phones and OS versions, that it is difficult to get the app to work perfectly with every phone.

I also like the fact that I can use iTunes for everything. I wish I didn't HAVE to, but it is nice having only one program that handles everything.

I do have a question. If I sign up for iTunes matching, can I stream my music without downloading it? From what I have read it streams while it downloads but I can't seem to get a straight answer anywhere on the internet.

Hope to see you all in this forum more often!

**EDIT**

Someone mentioned that Android phones are obsolete the day after they are purchased. Although this is obviously an exaggeration, it's not that far off. Look at the Razr. The Maxx 2 months later and the soon-to-be-Razr HD 6-7 months later. My Razr is now obsolete.

Well..let me say that i agree on the accessories available for the iPhone. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note and I'm not happy with the case, but there isn't that much available for it. Yes, the accessory makers concentrate on the iPhone.
As far as phones becoming obsolete, i got to say that since i purchased the Note, a couple of other newer devices came out with faster processors and some new features. It's strange, but my Note still works like it always did. Doesn't feel obsolete to me at all. There is always going to be something better out there. When I had my iPhone, I felt like it was obsolete because so many of the competing phones had features i wish the iPhone had.

I guess some actually believe that it is better for a company to release 1 new phone per year, and then sit and wait until next year while technology advances
on a daily basis.

If it weren't for the new products coming out every other month, Apple wouldn't feel the need to keep "upping" their game.

Be happy with what you have and don't worry about the newer item that comes out shortly after you make the purchase.

It's not about being happy with what I have or don't have. It's when I'm stuck with 2.3.6 for who-knows-how-long and apps that I want start coming out for 4.0 only. Google Chrome is a perfect example. There are many others.

It's about apps or games needing a certain processor to run (Tegra for example). It about apps using the power of a quad core chip when I'm stuck with a dual core chip. These are prevelant problem with Android and I grew tired of them.

Sure Android has pushed iOS to up their game, but it's done so at the expense of Android phone owners that have phones only a few months old. I'm sure that I will miss some Android features like the ones in my initial post. But there will be just as many things I like about the iPhone that I would be missing with Android.

I will NEVER, EVER, own a Samsung phone so the Nexus is out as long as Google sticks with them. I don't want to get into bashing certain manufacturers so I'll just leave it at that.

The best part of this all is that if I don't like the 4s (got it for a GREAT price), I can sell it and pick up a Rezound and still make a profit. You can't say that about ANY Android phone that is 7 months old.

I'm not saying that one is better than the other, they are just different and fill different needs and wants. Anyone who actually claims that one is better than the other is a fool. One may be better for an individual but not for everyone across the board.

While I don't doubt this bothered you, I also think it might not be a big deal for most people.

I have a Galaxy Nexus and a two year Galaxy S and with the exception of ICS/GB, they both run basically the same software...even the homescreens look similar. The only differences in my apps really are Chrome, google voice integration and some launchers or something..really nothing that matters (to me at least).

Both the phones work great and almost identical. I just wanted a newer device, larger screen and something new to play with.

There apps out there that don't work with all versions of Android and with all chipsets. The Nexus would minimize these conflicts but that would require me to buy a Samsung phone and that just isn't going to happen.

Like I said, I wanted a change and I wanted something with a lot of third party support and I wanted something with consistency. I may end up disliking the iPhone but if that's the case, I'll sell the 4s, get a Rezound and pocket the difference. I can't lose in this proposition.

I explain my points in great detail in my thread below, that's probably a better place to discuss this:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1369342/

I'll keep my responses here short...

Photography, both the camera and the apps. It's not just the number of megapixels. Same points for video.

Security, I'm referring to malware and not getting timely security updates from the carriers. Custom ROMs are not the solution, as that's probably the biggest attack vector on the platform. Replacing your entire OS with an unofficial version posted by a random guy on a forum, is not a good security model. Go to your IT department and tell them you downloaded Windows from a random guy on a forum, replacing your whole OS, because he said it added some cool features, and see their reaction.

Audio, 320k bitrate from Spotify, using Siri to play a specific song, even if it's in the cloud and not downloaded to your phone yet.

Navigation, TomTom is the closest thing to my old Dash Express GPS, it even beats it in some ways with the IQ routes that uses historical traffic data to give the best route. My Dad used Google Navigation on his Android a few weeks ago to get to my location, it told him to get off at the wrong exit and it took him an extra 30 minutes to get to me.

Games, in terms of graphics, variety, availability, FPS, and stability.

Hardware integration, I was referring to car stereos, things like AirPlay for my surround sound system, AirPlay mirroring to my HDTV...etc. You also don't need iTunes to update. Personally I use Linux, the only time I boot to Windows is to update my iTunes Cloud with more songs, which is done without connecting my phone. Now that I think about it, I got the iPhone 4S on day one and have never physically connected it to my computer.

Accessories, a large variety of charging cases, normal cases, the Jawbone Up, digital line-out converters, iRig products...etc.

Again, these are watered-down versions of the arguments from the thread. Best to go there so we don't end up repeating ourselves :)

Finally, a worth opponent. I read your initial post in this thread. Impressive! So now, I am forced to spend some time on a daily itinerary so we can compare. Allow me some time, as I'm sure it took you some as well to formulate yours.

See you soon. :D

Can someone please explain why ios is better than android to me? I still don't understand that. I already know that ios has more apps and games but I got an ipad for that. What does ios do better that android doesn't? Lets take a look.

1) With google I got everything synced. Mail, contacts, calendars, even music and web searches. Its not just synced on my phone, I got the exact same content on my computer too. Syncing apps is super easy too. I just search for an app in my browser on their website and I click on it. Then it automatically sends that app to my phone from my computer. It automatically recognizes what phone I have and if its compatible and it automatically installs the app. I don't even know how its possible.

2) With titanium backup I got all my apps and system data back upped. And it automatically makes new backups twice a week. And it automatically syncs this to dropbox and my phone storage. I can set this up to do it in the middle of the night while I am sleeping!

3) With dropbox I got an app that automatically uploads my pictures to my dropbox accounts. I can set it up that it does this only when I am connected to a wifi network. Preserving my data plan.

4) With tasker I have an app thats let me automate anything. For example I got profiles that syncs my data such as mail/facebook every 1 hour and then goes back to a state with no wifi/gps/bt/data. I got profiles that automatically switch mobile data on when I launch certains apps such as the browser. This way I got 21 hours with moderate use out of my htc one s and I still had 20% left. The possibilities are really endless and I am addicted to it. Its fun and functional. Anyway its too hard to explain if you have never heard of it but you just cant pull this stuff on your iphone.

5) stock ROM already has more customization than ios such as putting bookmarks, apps, google search bar and other stuff on your home screen. And the ability to put just everything you use on your home screen while hiding all the other stuff far far away. Something you just can't do with ios. But flashing custom ROMs puts the customization on a whole new level and its just pure fun. It keep things interesting and you can really give your phone your own personality. I am not even a power user.

I had an iphone 4 updated to the latest firmware and that thing is slow as hell compared to my htc one s. I prefer the colors of amoled a lot more than of lcd and I prefer a bigger a lot more than a 3.5" screen.

I prefer Android on my smartphone and iOS on my tablet. My iPad is incredibly smooth, which is important when I'm sat using it for a long time, but with my smartphone I just want to be able to get things done quickly, eg by using widgets, or quickly sharing pictures to wherever I want straight from the gallery, etc.

Android is more advanced than iOS but harder to use and configure. iOS is stunted, but a lot easier to learn how to use.

Can someone please explain why ios is better than android FOR me? I still don't understand that.

Fixed that for you ;)

iOS isn't better for you, that's why your personal reasons of liking android arent something to argue about. You think Android is better because of your personal preferences while we think iOS is better due to ours :)

I had an iphone 4 updated to the latest firmware and that thing is slow as hell compared to my htc one s. I prefer the colors of amoled a lot more than of lcd and I prefer a bigger a lot more than a 3.5" screen.

So let me get this straight: You have a single core phone and are complaining that it's slower than an Android phone that has a dual core?

Also AMOLED is nice but sucks because pixel burn in is inevitable over time unlike IPS on the iPhone.

I would just say that the HTC One X is the best smartphone available today and it is not even debatable.

I love how people dance around it and say "best phone for you" or "different strokes for different folks". That may all be true...you may prefer an iPhone over the HTC One X and that is certainly your perogative, but the fact is, you prefer an inferior device.

Hey, this is coming from a long time iPhone user that used to think that it was iOS or nothing...once I handled the One X and truly experienced what it has to offer, I realized that the iPhone is inferior in every way.

I can already see the next post..."troll" "troll"...well, I invite you to look at my posting history and you will see that I am anything but. I love my mac, I love my iPad, but the iPhone is a weak product right now compared to the top of the line Android offerings. That may change when the next iPhone is announced, but as of right now, it is what it is.
