Why is Apple so damn stubborn to never include notification LED in its iPhone...

I think most of the oppositions are coming from people who have not used an android/blackberry devices or used devices with crude single colored LED light. For instance, on my LG G2 I can set different colors to different people so when my wife emails/messages/calls me it blinks a certain color so I know to check my phone. Any other color I can ignore until I feel like checking the phone.

On the G2 I can turn off the LED if I choose. I also flip my phone over at night so the light doesn't bother me. Without the LED I'm frequently turning on my screen to find that there are no notifications which is a waste of battery and additional wear and tear on the home/power button. It's bad enough that I have to constantly double press the home button for multitasking.

Well I've decided to go with the Sony Z3. I was seriously considering the 6 and the lack of LED was one of the proverbial straws that led me away from apple mobile. That and the realization (thanks in large part to this thread) that apple doesn't have the same market forces that push other manufacturers to deliver the best product that they can.

Roflmao that is just so funny. Sometimes I wonder how some people can manage to breath by themselves.

Okay. Have fun with your new phone. Maybe there is more to a blinking LED than I actually realize, that makes it a deciding factor when purchasing a handset.
Me? I'm more than happy with my iPone 6 Plus without a blinking LED telling me I missed something.

Guess what? I don't have to pick up my phone to check for notifications

If you are away from your phone. And the LED is NOT blinking you know you dont have to check your phone.

With iphone you dont know if you did or did not miss anything unless you wake up the screen.

Yes, an iPhone has an LED and can be turned on for notifications. Crisis averted.

You mean to say there's no way to implement some kind of visual que that an event was missed without ruining the aesthetics of a phone? The rationalization of some of you borders on religious...

There's no religion; I expressed an opinion. I think a bright, blinking light on the front of my phone would look tacky. Similarly, I think a glowing circle around the touch ID would look cheap. It's just not for me. I actually really like the active notifications on the Moto X; that's more my style.

Maybe you like flashy. Maybe you've a better a idea on how to implement it. Regardless, you shouldn't be rude about it. It's just an opinion.

I, and many LED proponents, understand completely that your way works for you. And obviously our way works for us.

Right now, your way is the only option. With an LED that can be toggled off, you still have your option while we have our option, and never the twine shall meet.

What's the problem here?

There's no problem, there's just no point coming on a forum to whine of ask anyone to do anything about it. No one here can help you. You need to speak to Apple.

And you weren't smart enough to figure out that you can turn off those notifications? Android definitely is not for People like you

Never understood people who complain about all their notifications from Facebook and stuff… Christ, the idiocy of folks.

dont think there is anything wrong with straight up vibrate or screen change..

Who said there was? They are very helpful for the times the phone is in your hand.

Unfortunately, they are useless in many other situations...

I think the opposition is coming from Simpleton Street. I myself have never owned a Blackberry or Android with LED, and I instantly grasp the obvious benefits for a notification light. How could you not?

How you liking the G2, by the way? It's between that and 6 for me -- with the notification light being the number one reason I'd go with G2. Is the battery all it's cracked up to be? Anything else you can tell me?

Maybe you like flashy.

Or maybe he likes not missing message or having to turn on his phone multiple times a day just to see if any messages arrived?

As I said upstream, arguing against notfication lights is like those of us who never use vibration mode arguing against its benefits or the need for it.

Until Apple says otherwise

G2 is a really nice device with an excellent battery life. I would imagine the battery life is very close to 6+. It has minimal bloatware so it's pretty speedy too. Even with the excellent 5.2" screen it's not that much bigger than my iPhone 6 because the size bezel is almost nonexistent. The knock on feature and the back power/vol buttons are one of my favorite features. To top it all off, you can buy the device outright for about half the price of an iPhone 6.

With that said, I moved back to the iPhone because I've always planned to move back when Apple released a larger screen. Nothing beats the apps on the idevices.

Agree with the OP, it would be a nice little detail.

For the record, it's just a tiny dot LED that pulses in the event of a missed call, voicemail, text message, email, ect. User configures the triggers. The purpose is to enable one to see if the phone needs attention without having to fondle it. Glance across the room after you step out of the shower, or look for the pulsing glow when you wake up at night, etc.

Power draw is negligible. It would on the balance save power because you wouldn't need to light up the LCD display to check for notifications.

It's under the black glass, so you can't see it unless it lights up.

It's user configurable, so if you hate it, don't use it.

LED notifications are pretty useful. You don't need to constantly wake up your phone just to see if you have something going on... IMO Apple should implement a led light in the home button...

I personally would like an LED notification just like the blackberry, anyone who says it's a bad idea never head a phone with LED notification to realize how good of a feature it is.

My G2 has better batter life than 6+

Lemme guess, the phone was put on standby before the photo was taken ? Or hardly used with any app. This looks like a discharge of standby usage ..

If not, although I'm skeptical, that would be awesome.

That's not true. I have had plenty of smart phones and PDAs and dumb phones that have all sorts of blinky lights. The iPhone is just different. I could turn off all those blinky lights, depending on the phone, and I usually did. I don't need to show off that I have a phone call or a message. My phone vibrates in my pocket and gives me that little glorious tingle when I have a notification. A blinky light does little good when my phone is in my pocket, where I like it most.

Nope you are wrong, when I took this pic I had used the phone normally for around 24 hours... it had 78% battery remaining. The G2 has really and awesome battery life... I charge it every 4 days...

Does Google have a patent of some sort on the notification LED? I know they have one for face unlock which Apple will never get since they will never pay royalties to Google for it..

I heard knock on is glitchy, and the back buttons are worse on the Verizon version (and the phone is heavier), which is what I would get.

Also worried about the size of the G2, especially when I get a case for it. I'm worried about the size of the iphone 6 as well, so anything wider is a concern for me. (I text a lot one-handed). Both these phones are a little big for my liking.

You switched to iphone just for the apps? What are some examples of apps on Apple I couldn't get on android?

Good post, though an LED night would be much more than a "nice little detail". It's a transformative feature in my book.

That's what vibrate and alert is for.

Actually a blinky light is helpful for phones kept in pockets too. Now we must pull out the phone and turn it on to check for messages. With an LED, you wouldn't have to turn it on to see if there were messages. Another step or two would be saved.

It's impressive, but the fact that the information is all in Cyrillic in your picture is a blow against the G2. I like that the iphone pic you posted showed everything in English. Much easier on the eyes!
