I read something about a study google did that just turning your phones screen on uses 5 minutes of battery - regardless of how long you keep it on. So yeah, an LED notification light on the phone would probably save us all battery, too.

A study funded by the sneaky LED notification light lobby no doubt!!!:(

Power conservation is the least of it. The bigger advantage of notification lights is psychological. We all use our devices way too much in the modern world, so the less we can handle them or have any sort of relationship with them, the better. Notification lights can do away with the practice many iphoners have of constantly turning on their phone throughout the day to see if any messages have come in. It can border on the obsessive, and it can't be healthy. (Not to mention it's an inefficient use of our time and attention).

----------

I would love to have an LED notification on the iPhone but it is not a necessity.

The iPhone itself is not a necessity, to say nothing of fancy features like vibrate mode, a clock, and the ability to listen to music.

Why is Apple so damn stubborn to never include notification LED in its iPhone...

Actually a blinky light is helpful for phones kept in pockets too. Now we must pull out the phone and turn it on to check for messages. With an LED, you wouldn't have to turn it on to see if there were messages. Another step or two would be saved.

OMG, now I have seen it all. An LED doesn't vibrate, so it would provide no help to anyone keeping their phone in their pocket. Since one would have to keep taking the time to pull out the phone and keep checking for a blinky light, that is unless you are expecting a notification, then you are stuck to wonder why it's blinking like crazy, might as well turn on the phone and take a look at the notification.

LED is an addition not a substitute for existing notification methods.

On this note, why does iPhone light up the screen on every notification? It is so annoying and waste of battery.

Why do you think phones also have a vibration motor?

Then, a blinky LED light is redundant and not necessary, since I can easily look at my lit up screen and instantly know what the notification is and not have to ponder what in the world some blinky LED is supposed to indicate.

What if you missed seeing the screen lit up or you didn't feel the phone vibrate? that's the million dollar question, isn't it?

That's why I think it should make a soft hissing sound too. That way, if you miss the vibrate notification and miss the screen notification and miss the flashing LED notification because you're not looking right at your phone every second of your life you'll at least get a notification that you missed a notification that you missed a notification. Who wouldn't want that kind of certainty? THAT'S the million dollar question, now isn't it?

That I do too (i.e. phone makes regular sound until I act on the notifications) ONLY for missed important calls/messages. That's the great thing about Android which caters to individual needs. Looking at the way Iphone users have so much resistance on LED notifications, I think they have pretty high tolerance on doing menial task such as on-off phone regularly whole day long to check for missed notifications.

These people are truly crazy, huh?

I don't understand the idiocy of some iphone users. The obvious benefits of notification lights have been patiently explained to them many times over in this thread, yet still they persist. It's astounding. Why defend the indefensible? What's in it for them? I've used Android and iphone, and I'm not afraid to tell you the pros and cons of each. You see, I don't work for either company or have stock in them, and I'm guessing many of these people don't either.

Why anyone would respond to a desire for notification lights with anything other than something like "Yes, it's one of the weaknesses of an otherwise great phone" is baffling. It just makes them look stupid to say otherwise.

Simple. Because PREFERENCE is not universal. It is NOT astonishing that everyone doesn't share your opinions and preferences. It doesn't matter if you imagine that an LED is superior. In the opinion of many it simply isn't. Your preference =/= objective fact. No matter how aggressively you argue your point the bottom line remains the same: it's a matter of preference, not objective superiority. Just as many people here have made compelling arguments as to why notification lights are INFERIOR. Their preference doesn't make those who disagree with them look stupid or crazy. It isn't astounding or incomprehensible. It's really very, very simple.

Exactly what completing argument of it being is inferior is there when it simply supplements, NOT REPLACES, the more immediate notifications? Arguing that fewer options is better just doesn't make any sense to me. It's almost like if I argued that phones shouldn't have ring tones anymore since I no longer use them since getting a smart watch.

Personally hate LED notifications, i remember back in the day you used to be able to get those keyrings that flashed when your phone was ringing! tacky as *******!

I don't see the need or demand from customers. Apple is not even be aware of this as missing. It's a non issue. It sounds like a feature that people with neon lights inside their PC cases want. Accessibility provides the LED flash option, if you want more info or colours thats what the front LCD is for.

Adding in a tacky LED and then having to hide it under the glass is only going to add to costs and reduce space for other components. If it's such a massive issue maybe android is actually for you instead.

There are no reasons for adding an LED that aren't already provided. In what situation can you see an LED but not the screen? It's like lighting up a single pixel 2cms away from a million or so pixels that do the same bloody thing, it's redundant!

Except you have to push a button to get the screen to light up. Say I'm cooking and handling meat. Or washing dishes. Or in the shower. Or any number of other daily activities. I don't want to wash/dry/etc my hands to see if I have any messages. Just give me hands free method to check that I don't have to turn off at night when I go to bed, such as an LED indicator (or let me control the flash output)!

Never seen such stupid replies. Of course a flashing LED would be a great idea. At a glance you can see if you have a notification without having to keep touching your phopne every 5 seconds. Saves on energy too especially as screens are getting larger and consume quite a large chunk of the power.
Ive been wanting something like this on my Iphone since jumping in on the IOS platform.

My point is, you miss seeing the blinky LED when your phone is in your pocket, no matter how fast or how furious it blinks and I don't want to carry around my phone all day watching for a blinky light.

neither is the prefence to NOT have an LED light. yet the isheep here are going nuts at the thought of such a thing.

OMG an LED. What does that tell me? IDK.
OMG an LED. Thats ugly
OMG an LED. Welcome to 1996
OMG an LED. My phone is grafted to me I never miss anything.

Sorry there is no argument that is reasonable against an LED. The only argument against one is opinion.

I've see no person say. I want LED lights, and all other notifications to go away. Nope everyone calling for LED lights is wanting them in ADDITION to the current notifications because for them, that LED light serves a purpose.

If it doesn't benefit you in anyway, you could turn it off.

But then again, "you" believed apple when they said you were holding it wrong, and when you didn't want/need a bigger screen.

I respect your opinion for wanting one. Respect mine for not seeing the need for one. Otherwise, you are just as bad as the people you are ranting against.

Bravo sir, bravo!

Completely agree!

In addition, Apple fans always said they did not need NFC.

It took apple forever to just include LTE on their phones when everyone else was on it.

While I do like apple, they are just always late to the party.

When/if apple decides to include an led notification, everyone will say, it is so innovative!

So if you dont want it on, turn it off.

At least you have the option. The apple way is to not even need it.

You didn't need a larger phone, until apple decided for you that you did.

The small phone was perfect last year. This year it doesn't even get updated.
