The point is guys, you need to be happy about what you have and not take it for granted... because I guarantee that someone else would love to have a computer like this even with the flaws! Be happy! :)

No they won't if they pay 1K+ for it.

Also the reason people complain because they pay the same price as others, so they would expect to get the products/services with the same quality and I personally feel nothing wrong with that.

obviously, i strongly disagree with the op's willingness to accept inferior products from apple, and his attempt to encourage other consumers to give up their right to demand quality control from apple, but i don't think it has anything to do with his age, and i am sorry to see so many of you being so condescending towards him.

some of you may only know ralph nader as an "also-ran" presidential candidate, but before that nader earned respect as a consumer advocate, and it took him decades to change people's thinking about their relationship with industry. thanks to him we have a radically different consumer culture here than in other countries, and every time you get in a car you are benefitting immensely from the pioneering efforts he made to stop companies from sacrificing people's lives for profits.

obviously, apple's quality control issues are not life-threatening, but the same dynamic between customers and corporations can occur, and the op's post is something you can still find from people of all ages. fortunately, thanks to earlier efforts to awaken consumer conscience, a lot of consumers will not stand for inferior products anymore AND apple recognizes their right to hold the company to a high standard. apple (in my experience) has always been willing to back its products and has very consumer-friendly policies in place. it's very impressive, and it's one of the reasons apple has earned my loyalty.

anyhow, complaining about issues with a product is how you effect change as a consumer. we can't all sit in the apple boardroom, but we can raise a big stink when apple removes backlit keyboards or tries to tell us we are holding their product wrong. apple is loathe to admit in public that they are wrong, but they do listen, and they change products accordingly. i kind of doubt apple will allow similar quality differences to creep into products from different suppliers again.

Life is good at 14.
Yeah. I keep thinking of all the people I know who pay child support that goes to funding the ex-wifes dating life, pay for mortgages that are twice the value of the actual house or pay for their kids college tuition and the kid is ditching classes because they were up all night at a kegger.

So many times we unfairly pay up simply because we're adults and we have to take responsibility for things even if they're out of our control. So when situations come about that we actually DO have control over then its tough to hear someone say we should just quietly sit there and do nothing about it.

I have the toshiba ssd. I have no problems with my air. I have the 11 inch screen and this is probably the most impressive screen I had in a computer. Although, this is my first personal mac. My mother does have the Macbook Pro. And I seem to like my air so much.

Well Burch,it comes down to only this,

I am paying the Apple tax, premium price,I want premium product. so far EVERYTHING I have bought from Apple, including refurbs, have been flawless. If they hadn't, I'd have been driving to Tampa, to the International Mall to the Apple Store, they would have made it right. If you pay Lexus prices, you don't want a Yugo.
BTW, welcome to the Forums, and the wonderful world of Apple. You found it at 14, or maybe earlier, I stumbled in at the age of 58, and haven't been happier,5 years and counting.Enjoy the long Apple life you have ahead of you!

I stopped here.

Why, you've never been 14:mad:

Good for you :)

Because it is more fun.

Seriously though, when you pay that huge amount of money for a computer you expect it to run perfectly when you first get it..would you want to have a dent in your brand new Ferrari? :D

nice positive post! :D

I'm a new mac user myself. new to these forums too. (browsed them for a weeks time now though) and just got my macbook air (ultimate i think) 11" today.. i love it a lot !

I've never used a mac before (well i did play a tiny platform game back in the early 90's) but my first impressions are very positive!
i like the screen even though its small.
i like the keyboard even though i prefer my "gaming keyboard" i use on my desktop pc
i love the design
i love those "small things" in lion, with the 2, 3 and 4 finger sliding.. really effective use when browsing and such <3

I just have some trouble fiddling with settings and finding folder placements and where does it hide downloads and other small things. Ill learn it eventually i guess.. (had to google "how to copy paste on mac"... lol)

batterylife is good too! the speaker is not great. but its certainly better than i expected for such a small laptop. i'm impressed i can even hear the sound clearly (since i cannot see any speaker?)

The worst thing(s) about this macbook air?
The capslock button is too close to my A button (on my desktops keyboard, the caps lock button is lowered a bit so you never press it accidentally)

and i don't like the placement of the power button. its too risky placing it there at the backspace button. (don't know what happens if i press it quickly though... :p)
So far thats really all i can complain about! I've got no technical problems or build quality issues.. everything just works flawlessly.

Overall first impressions are very very positive about this mac!

now if you guys would excuse me.. gotta find out how to install programs on this... :p

People love to troll and then you have the people who are never happy.

I have been here 11 years and as much as trolls can be a pain in the ass, they do make up at least three of the top ten posters here. But from the inception of this site, trolls have had a pretty strong presence here.

That being said, at the same time, while they blasted other MR members, they were usually pretty Mac savvy and had no problem attacking Apple and usually rightly so.

Wow, just wow.

Let's get this out of the way...not only am I lot older than 14, I have had Macs since 1986, I have had every version of the MBA since 2009, I have earned every penny of my money in a very demanding job, and I indeed know the value of of it.

That it takes a 14 year old kid to expose the OCD nonsense revolving in this thread and countless other about Samsung versus Toshiba versus LG in the new MBA speaks volumes.

"The LG screen makes my eyes hurt!" "The Toshiba SSD is soooo slow!" "I returned by MBA 6 times, hoping to get the right LCD panel!" Come on, really. Think about what your computer was like 3 years ago, and compare it to what it is now. What you get for your money today is incredible.

Macrumors and similar sites are great for altering people to real problems that can and do occur with their machines, and also for helping users of all knowledge levels out with new tweaks and ideas. This is great.

Sometimes, however, this gets out of hand in the area of complaints. People expect a machine to be a perfection that will change their lives. Give it up--it's just a machine. You guys at times can be like a Porsche forum (like someone commented on earlier in this thread).

So Burch, more power to you. Good work, kid. Now go out an code a few apps for the App Store so your dad doesn't have to pay you an allowance (like my 12 year old son).

Bravo!!! +1 :apple:

The Corvette Forums can't hold a candle to this one...

Should he work tirelessly until he gets his coding right or should he settle for imperfection because "in comparison to things in the past then his app is is okay and therefore people should just buy it and shut up"?

Actually, as a young kid he should not expect perfection in an app. A decent app could make him a couple hundred $$$ per quarter. If he tried to make it perfect before submitting it, he'd make zero.

Exactly. Show me a "perfect" product that wasn't ever updated and sold by the tons.

Hell, Google keeps the beta tag on all of their services (maps, voice, docs, etc.) because they are simply always updating it and making it better.
