I like my iPhone but don't "hate" other phones. My god grow up people! This remidns me of high school sometimes. I'll bet people who hate smartphones find this amusing-sheep arguing over having their wool dyed blue vs. green for example. At least I got some nice etymotic earphones so I stand out from the other sheep using Apple earphones on the bus on the way to the slaughterhouse-I mean work.

PS. I like google and think MS has done some good stuff too-as has Apple.

Ok here's my question: Is it ok to dislike the iPhone?

I see so much Android hate on this forum it's nauseating. I have an Android phone and don't even DISLIKE iPhones, I love them. Mmmm white iPhone <3

Well, this is MacRumors. Saying that you hate Android phones is quite Ok here (immature obviously, but Ok) while doing the same thing on an Android forum would be trolling. And vice versa; nobody should complain if people express their dislike of the iPhone on an Android forum; on MacRumors the same thing would be trolling.

people hate businesses (and other people) that are very good at what they do but do not have an ounce of humility. people hate smug.

apple and it's 'followers' are so very smug.

a combo of people tying a large chunk of their identity into stuff they own, plus the need to feel/proclaim a 'different mentality/individuality' by criticizing popular/mainstream culture...which the iphone (apple products in general) is part of.

It all comes down to the illusion; "i'm better than you because i chose to own x/go a different direction"

that said some will argue that it's down to individual taste...one size rarely fits all.

bingo!

I never got the 'can't afford it' argument. The iPhone generally costs the same as most other smartphones out there.

I think a lot of tends to be the smugness that a lot of Apple customers have about how their device is 'magical' and every other device is automatically inferior. Or that people can't afford it? Or that Apple fans are sheep that will put up with a somewhat closed device that is often technically (at least specwise) inferior to other devices on the market.

And yes it's immaturity on both sides. Too many people put WAY too much stock in what phone they carry and how it somehow defines them. I like my iPhone. But it's just an electronic device that works for me. I honestly don't care what other people spend their money on or what works for them. I don't get any special prize if the iPhone is the most popular phone on the planet or universally considered a POS.
I think its a juvenile version of "I drive a BMW". That is an open ended statement that could be interpreted as arrogant or just pride in ones car.

That is nearly 100% correct. And the fact that all of their facts are usually propaganda from commercials makes it even worse...*sigh..I have a droid and have had it for over a year. I just don't like it, in fact I liked it when I got it but it was always "option #2" in that it didn't have an iPod (Yes it has music player a quarter assed one at that but not an iPod), the build quality was cheap and it was choppy. Its funny I see so many people with their iPod touches and android phones and the majority of the time they have the iPod touch out trying to use it to the max like you would with an iPhone...why not just get an iPhone?

I personally dislike the iPhone because I had an iPhone 3G and after a year of use got to suffer the iOS 4.0 lag fun. Apple never fixed the problem and I wasn't going to upgrade to a newer iPhone after that experience. Replaced it with a WP7 Samsung Focus and haven't looked back. Pretty much lost any like of the iPhone after that.

So you're counting on every future upgrade to the OS for that phone to work
perfectly. How far into the future, exactly? Eventually the OS upgrades would be dumbed down to match the older hardware of the phone? Not likely. The phones fall by the wayside as the software improves. It can't go any other way.

I like this post. Well said.

Never loooked back? You're still viewing and posting on an iPhone forum:D
Don't lie to yourself.

1+ lol well said! it comes down to different stroke for different folks. I work at a high school some kids are jealous I have it. Some kids try to insult me saying iPhone sucks. I just say well glad you like your phone I like mine too. if it does what you want how you want, who cares.

We were once on the same boat! I was so pissed off with iOS 4.0, so i downgraded to iOS 3.1.3 (which was very easy to do), and here i am still enjoying my iPhone 3G and waiting for the iPhone 5.

How can one expect an OS which is optimized to run flawlessly on the specs of the iPhone 4 to run on the specs that the iPhone 3G has?

That's the thing, I DID downgrade to iOS 3.1.3 when I was trying to undo whatever was wrong, and it didn't fix it. I still had the same lag that started with iOS 4.

Android

Android created competition between Apple and its self saying the same thing that Cydia did. Apple has control over everything but Jailbreaks, if you dont Jailbreak you are under control of them. Android however lets you have total control over your device. Which can be useful at times however Android lacks a "Cydia". No free applications without a hassle .... Lets go iPhone users!!!!:apple:

Most people that prefer Android phones over iPhones bring up Android's "openness" as opposed to Apple's "walled garden" that is iOS. I personally prefer my phone's OS be controlled by a single company, just look at the fragmentation of Android over a multitude of devices, different companies making their own versions of Android (HTC Sense, Motoblur). When it comes down to it they're either stubborn and stuck in their ways or haven't even used an iOS device, they're just ignorant. I have a few friends that have Android phones, I've checked them out, played with the apps, and for the life of my I can't understand why anybody would want to use some laggy POS Android phone. They were high tier Android phones too, Droid X, HTC Evo Shift, but to each his own I guess. iOS is rock solid, runs amazingly smoothly, has the amazing App Store and is all packaged in the amazingly sleek, beautiful iPhone 4, not some plastic garbage. That being said, I can't wait for iOS 5! :D
