Another one that looks very well done by i-Blason but available by June 24th:

I love the i-Blason cases as far as quality and fit, but I don't get their obsession with "locking" the Smart Keyboard Case or Smart Cover on to the iPad. The magnets on these things are quite strong and don't really need extra help. Also, I like to take my ASK off sometimes and use the iPad without, or I like to switch over to a Smart Cover for lighter traveling.

the silicone back case + Smart Cover was the worst solution ever.overpriced,un-attractive and not secure enough.
so I'm glad there is no silicone "case" for the new iPads.
however I really miss the leather smart case they had a while back.that case was awesome and the best.premium feel and good quality and protection and the price was somehow justified.
I really don't know why Apple discontinued smart case and opted for the awful silicone case + Smart Cover combo.

I am a klutz. My iPP 9.7 in the Apple silicone back cover has hit the floor (wood, ceramic tile) several times, plus it gets loaded up and hauled to the camp many weekends. I like leather, but for me, silicone is practical. I wish we had the option so those of us who like it could buy it and those who don't like it can just give it a pass.

Best ever was the leather case for Air 2. I wish they would come out with that again or someone would come out with a quality leather case just like it. I have the jet case now along with Apple Smart Cover and Iluvit rear case, going back and forth between them.

But I would pay $ for a case like the Apple Air 2 case.

by "not secure enough",I was referring to the combination of silicone case + Smart Cover instead of one uniform case like the smart case.
you couldn't safely grab the iPad by Smart Cover,as it could get detached.
when I got the 9.7" iPad Pro,I also bought the Silicone case + Smart Cover and it was definitely an inferior solution vs the Leather Smart Case I had for iPad Mini 2 and Air.

I want to be able to detach the keyboard at times. I don't want one uniform case. I understand that you don't like the silicone back cover but there appear to be several of us who do like it. Nobody will force you to buy one if they make one. What works for you doesn't necessarily work for me.

how about hoping they make : silicon back case, leather back case (like iPhone's) for KB users and Leather smart case for users who don't use keyboard? :)

Just a warning: don't buy this back cover! They claim it is compatible with the smart cover and keyboard but the open end for the smart connector DOES NOT FIT! The opening is about a 1/4" to small so your smart cover does not lay flush against the 10.5 "iPad Pro. Plus the corners of the cover do not fit over the corners of the table on that side. You have to cut the plastic away on the side of the cover in order to get the cover to lay flat but the corners won't fit. All openings etc. do fit fine except for the defect. Very disappointed. Last cover I bought from Luvvitt for my 9.7" iPad Pro fit perfectly. I'll use it after cutting it but only until something better comes along.

Luvvit has changed the body of the listing (but for some reason not the title) to indicate this will not not work with the cover or keyboard. Their listing also states that earlier purchasers will receive a new revised case when available (currently estimated at the end of June). While it sucks that the original case did not fit, I really like the case that I modified and am using now. It fits well, gives a grippy feel to the back, and will not scratch the iPad as many hardback cases will. I think the revised case will remain my back of choice unless Apple comes out with their own back case. The reason why Apple discontinued their back case it that the are tons of bad reviews saying the corners cracked. They obviously had a manufacturing issue with that version of the case.

I loved the Air 2 leather smart case. I bought the Brown at launch then the Red and Black within a year. I swapped them out all the time and the Red was my favorite. I didn't pay full price for the black and the red but they would definitely be worth the full retail price.

This is how I use mine too; I like being able to pull the cover off if I'm sitting on the couch and have no need to stand up the iPad.

On mine the corners where the smart cover attaches do not seat fully; does yours do that? Its like the cover is a few mm short ..

Yes as well

Totally agree with you on this. Love everything about this cover except for the two areas that don't fit. Just had to trim some of it off to get it to lay flat. Luvvitt contacted me again today and are working to fix the problems and send replacements.

Mine does the same. To be honest, I thought it was more a result of me cutting the case to modify it to accept the Smart Cover and ASK. I did put it on prior to cutting, but didn't notice the issue at that point (but it was only for a couple of minutes and I definitely could have missed it). Hopefully sorted out in the revised case as I really like the case on the whole.

Wasn’t as good as it could have been. Was the same thickness as the one for the Air, so negated the quite significant thickness reduction of the device.

I could swear the leather Smart Cover was the only thing announced the day the 10.5 was announced. It wasn't until a couple of days later that the silicon Smart Cover was on their site. If that's true then maybe we'll see a back Cover eventually.

No, Joz talked about the Smart Cover and said they were also bringing back the leather by popular demand.

Since luvvitt knows about the problem now if I order from amazon today do you think I will get the updated cover.

I agree with you regarding how great the leather smart case is/was. However, I appreciate the two piece design of the silicone back case plus smart cover combination, as I use the smart keyboard and back case.

I am also wondering if its b/c we clipped the case a little and it doesn't have enough material along the side to keep the corner of the cover in place. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

At $69 for a piece of silicon then you'd think they'd keep these on the market.

I wonder if the lack of back cover is due to a durability issue. Ive had two iPad Pro 9.7 back covers crack on me (never dropped, never removed from case). I checked reviews on Apple Store and it seems to be a common problem. And unfortunately, Apple changed accessory coverage so even if you have AppleCare+ then the smart case isn't covered.
Same here for the 9.7 iPad Pro cracks: but meanwhile the leather front & back for the iPad Air 2 was perfect - still flawless after 3 years of use. I have the 10.5 Pro now, and found that getting the sleeve was a mistake, as you take it off when you are using it, which is when I need it protected...

Here’s a hunch... new line of them... some with and some without smart connector functionality of some kind. What could they do with a case? I don’t think battery or power can go through the smart connector... what else?

I really like the Apple Smart Case on my iPad Air 2. I also had one on my previous iPad. They look good, don't add to much to the size of the iPad and most important, they fully protect it. I was just pricing what I'm going to be ordering with my 10.5" IPP and found that Apple doesn't offer a Smart Case for it. Then I found this thread. I'm really not happy about this! For the people that only use a Smart Cover, how does the back of the iPad look after you've had it for awhile? I'm careful with my stuff but life happens so I can see the back being scratched and/or dented after awhile. I guess that's when AppleCare will come in handy.

I saw that in another thread a few minutes ago. I started off not wanting a third party case but the reviews looks good.
