If Apple can manage a way to put in a notification LED, then they'll do it. If they were to do it, I'd imagine the LED to be etched into the phone like a MBP's invisible sleep indicator. Wouldn't THAT be nice?

Not necessarily...

That is a superb idea, i was wondering if they made one where to put it. Obviously Apple are minimalist when it comes to design so adding another hole to put an LED in might not have fit with them. But incorporating it within the current design is very Apple like

If they could do it like this, I wouldn't mind having a notification light, so long as I can turn it off if I get annoyed with it

because notification lights are ugly and not needed. IF you're so lazy you can't push the home button then maybe iPhone isn't for you.

Checking my iPhone all the time is fine.. if I have NOTHING else to do with my time. Sadly, I do have more important things to do with my time. Checking my phone in no way adds any value to my life. That being the case, it should take up as little time and be as easy as possible.

One thing I wish the Iphone had

One thing I wish the Iphone had would be a light indicator when I have messages, missed calls, emails etc. It's pretty much the only function I miss having from my BB. I hate always turning the phone on to see if I have anything new...

YES!!! This is something AMAZING that most people don't understand, if they weren't blackberry owners in the past...

The allure of the flashing red light... and the scared feeling you get with the yellowish green one!

:D Exactly. You know I feel...

someone made this exact post like a few days ago i believe

i definitely agree, id like some glowing like teh nexus1, but it may be kind of tacky for an iphone

Just thinking about it now and it would be perfect if the "Home" button had this feature. Would look awesome with the apple logo being lumintaed. :apple:

Not that I necessarily disagree, but all you have to do is hit the lock button and any voicemails, missed calls, texts are displayed on the homescreen. Apple devices seem to be less about the numerous buttons/displays/ect., so I doubt we'll see this implemented as I don't think their is a dire need for it given the first sentence I posted.

I hear ya. I guess I'm just a lazy person. There are so many times where my phone is on the table across the room and I'm on the couch and don't feel like getting up to check. Would make it a lot easier. And I have my phone locked so every time I want to check I have to put my pw in.

You're right, there's no dire need, and it seems to go against the overall Apple aesthetic, but I personally think that its a great idea. I know at work I keep my iPhone at my desk on silent (since I don't want it going off for the whole office to hear) and I end up pressing the home button to check if someone has texted me many, many times during the day. It would be nice if I could just glance over to it and see a tiny glowing light to see if I have any texts.

Hitting the lock/unlock button once, before sliding the unlocker, leaves the phone in the lock screen (and on every iPhone I've ever used/seen) displays (if there are any) missed calls, texts and new voicemails.

Sorry about that! I had flying fingers and hit submit too soon :D I edited.

My Nexus does this and I feel that its not some sort BB thing. Its a great feature to provide visual feedback on whether I missed a notification.

I haven't done this yet, but if I rooted my phone, I could get multi-colored notifications lights on the trackball that's on my Nexus.

Its an awesome feature, just because its not on the iPhone doesn't mean its not needed or should be marginalized, i.e., if its not apple, its crap.

I've been saying this for some time and hope one day it will come true. The white square on the home button should light up :)

That would be pretty cool. That would be how I would see Apple doing it (if they ever do it).

I would certainly want some sort of control over the brightness and also what it blinks to notify you of (SMS, Email, etc.)

How about the home button lighting up?

That and it uses more battery, do we really need to put more of a strain on a battery life that already sucks?

LEDs do not use that much power. Plus its nit like it will be on 24/7.

exactly... and it could double up as a light indicator to when the front-facing cam is on

Why roll your eyes?

What makes you think there would be an option to disable it? That's not how Apple works. Case in point: the pulsing sleep light on the MacBook and MacBook Pro; there's no way to disable that. If Steve were to decide that we needed an LED notification light I don't think that there's any guarantee he'd let us turn it off.

Well if its on a PHONE then chances are if they do add it, it will be an option.

Don't be so closed minded.

I have always wanted to see the white square on the home button light up.

+1

Why would we need to push a home button? No more different to look at a light then to push a button every 108 minuntes. :D

A notification LED?

Sorry, that just sounds like the most pointless inclusion.

If you miss a text, the iPhone can be set to vibrate and make a sound to alert your attention to it two more times at set intervals.

I just don't see when you'd need an LED to tell you something is on your phone, because if you're going to look at your handset to check a light, why not just look at the screen?

Seems a complete waste of time.

It seems to be a waste of time of going though the home buttons and menus.

A light would help these and many other people. Just because YOU don't require one doesn't mean others don't.

Why are all you anti-light people so adamant? If Apple DID add a light, it would make a lot of people happy. They would no doubt do it in a subtle if not invisible-when-off way. And they would let you turn if off completely, so why are all you knuckleheads wasting your bandwidth arguing against it? All you're doing is making yourselves look like lemmings. Take it from a fanboy...you are giving fanboys a bad name.

Exactly. Thank god these people are not running apple.

If they add a light THEY will be the first ones to phrase it.
