If Apple can manage a way to put in a notification LED, then they'll do it. If they were to do it, I'd imagine the LED to be etched into the phone like a MBP's invisible sleep indicator. Wouldn't THAT be nice?
Most Blackberries also have keyboards. Does that mean Apple should include one on the iPhone?
The iPhone is not a Blackberry.
Not necessarily...

That is a superb idea, i was wondering if they made one where to put it. Obviously Apple are minimalist when it comes to design so adding another hole to put an LED in might not have fit with them. But incorporating it within the current design is very Apple like![]()
because notification lights are ugly and not needed. IF you're so lazy you can't push the home button then maybe iPhone isn't for you.
YES!!! This is something AMAZING that most people don't understand, if they weren't blackberry owners in the past...
The allure of the flashing red light... and the scared feeling you get with the yellowish green one!
someone made this exact post like a few days ago i believe
i definitely agree, id like some glowing like teh nexus1, but it may be kind of tacky for an iphone
all you have to do is hit the lock button and any voicemails, missed calls, texts are displayed on the homescreen. .
Not that I necessarily disagree, but all you have to do is hit the lock button and any voicemails, missed calls, texts are displayed on the homescreen. Apple devices seem to be less about the numerous buttons/displays/ect., so I doubt we'll see this implemented as I don't think their is a dire need for it given the first sentence I posted.

Hitting the lock/unlock button once, before sliding the unlocker, leaves the phone in the lock screen (and on every iPhone I've ever used/seen) displays (if there are any) missed calls, texts and new voicemails.

That would be pretty cool. That would be how I would see Apple doing it (if they ever do it).I've been saying this for some time and hope one day it will come true. The white square on the home button should light up![]()
That and it uses more battery, do we really need to put more of a strain on a battery life that already sucks?
exactly... and it could double up as a light indicator to when the front-facing cam is on![]()
What makes you think there would be an option to disable it? That's not how Apple works. Case in point: the pulsing sleep light on the MacBook and MacBook Pro; there's no way to disable that. If Steve were to decide that we needed an LED notification light I don't think that there's any guarantee he'd let us turn it off.
I have always wanted to see the white square on the home button light up.

A notification LED?
Sorry, that just sounds like the most pointless inclusion.
If you miss a text, the iPhone can be set to vibrate and make a sound to alert your attention to it two more times at set intervals.
I just don't see when you'd need an LED to tell you something is on your phone, because if you're going to look at your handset to check a light, why not just look at the screen?
Seems a complete waste of time.
A light would help these and many other people. Just because YOU don't require one doesn't mean others don't.
Why are all you anti-light people so adamant? If Apple DID add a light, it would make a lot of people happy. They would no doubt do it in a subtle if not invisible-when-off way. And they would let you turn if off completely, so why are all you knuckleheads wasting your bandwidth arguing against it? All you're doing is making yourselves look like lemmings. Take it from a fanboy...you are giving fanboys a bad name.
