The 2x optical doesn't work indoors or in low light. That's digital zoom. The telephoto photos outside look really good.
But any camera with optical zoom can utilise their optical zoom at anywhere. Why Apple does not allow user to optical zoom when iPhone is in indoor environment?

Couldn't tell you. But that's why you experienced what you did.

Because the 2x lens is f2.8. Small lens doesn't capture enough light in low light conditions so it defaults to the f1.8 bigger main lens.

Yes! Plus the fact that the 56mm lens does not have optical image stabilization (OIS) like the 28mm lens does. F/2.8 with no OIS is not really that good in low light condition....especially for a longer lens.

Seems odd that Apple neglected OIS on the 56mm lens (i.e. as that's the lens that would benefit more from it....as it's both the longer lens of the two and has a smaller aperture). I bet that's a feature they add in the 2017 release.

Here's an idea on how Apple will differentiate the two sizes next year. The 8 will get the 7 plus' current module and the 8 plus will get OIS and f1.8 on both lens.

Do it? Where you hear that from?
I believe you just want to k ow why everyone on here saying they getting plus..
Well the regular 7's have a 2-3 week dispatch time and according to istocknow their hasn't been a 32GB 7 in any of the UK stores since launch! The other models are showing 1-2 week dispatches and people have been posting their luck with securing walk in purchases and deliveries so I'd say it's a fair comment!

For me, I like the more mobile aspect of the 7. I have an iPad Pro 9.7 if I need a bigger screen. And if I need bigger than that, well I have my MBP 15. Each device has its purpose.

That's my take. The only time I really want the plus is when I am at home and can use it as a media device, but I have an iPad so it would be redundant.

The plus is almost the length of my forearm lol. I understand the draw if you are replacing your computer / tablet and using it mainly at home but i like having mine always with me and even the 7 is too big for a lot of my jean back pockets or blazer pockets at work. For some reason clothing designers don't think woman need internal pockets.

Lots of people got the regular 7, just not the people you'd see on a forum for Apple fans.

few quick and dirty samples from Portrait Mode...

sorry I don't have better samples with better subjects. but you can easily see how it melts the busy background away.

so even without Portrait Mode, the 7 doesn't even have the option to take a photo at the 2x 28m (56mm) focal distance. I'm hoping it's fair game in the camera department for the 8 and Plus. actually, I hope they're both similar in most its specs (other than battery and screen size/resolution). I guess a supposed Pro would have the higher-end specs.

I have opted for regular ever since they offered the plus, but went for the plus this year, mainly because of camera. But I have to say I like the plus overall.

Next year I hope they fit a larger screen into a smaller frame. The Plus is needlessly large. Those bezels are ridiculous.

For now, I'll stick with the regular 7.

regular sized iphones are baby phones! who wants to look at media on a little a@@ screen??

Not me! That's why I have an iPad that goes with me most places and a nice TV and speakers for home. My phone has always been my media device of last resort. Does anyone really claim that watching movies is really THAT much better on a 5.5" screen compared to a 4.7"? A bigger small screen is still a small screen.

Seriously though, I switched from the 6S+ to the regular 7 this year and am thrilled to be back on the smaller size. The bigger screen on the plus was never large enough to make the experience anything close to an iPad, and most apps didn't offer anything new to take advantage of the bigger screen on the plus anyway. At the same time, the large size of the plus meant I was constantly coming up with workarounds to make it fit into my routine. Some examples include shuffling it in my hand to reach areas of the screen, not being able to work the keyboard without using two hands, and having to take the phone out of my pocket when sitting in several different pairs of pants because it was too uncomfortable. I finally decided I wanted a phone that fits comfortably in my hand while offering a decent sized screen and the ability to accomplish most tasks one handed while out and about. The 4.7" model fits the bill perfectly. I admit, I am a bit jealous of the dual camera system on the plus, but not enough to make me switch back now that the 4.7" model has OIS on the camera.

All that being said, if Apple redesigns the phone next year so that the 5.5" model has a truly smaller body, I might go back to the plus. It's just to big right now though.
