The Plus is a little too large for me and the regular feels good in hand, but the screen on the regular is too small for me because I basically use my phone as my main computer, browsing the internet and watching videos on it all the time. The main reason I never even consider the regular 7 though is because the resolution is too low. I'm sorry, but I do notice a difference between 326 PPI and 400. Text and photos on the Plus look noticeably sharper to me. I always think our Sony mirrorless camera missed focus when I look at photos from it on my wife's regular iPhone, but then I remember that they just look less sharp because of the resolution. Oh, and I've always wanted optical zoom on a phone, so I especially didn't have to think about it this year.

I use an SE as my "chief communications device", lol. But I did also want a device with a bigger screen and a great camera oriented experience so I went with...Note7. I finally got one that won't double as a bomb and it is great.

But having temporarily pocketed a Galaxy S7 loaner during the Note 7 recall period, I learned I can do alright pocketing something roughly the size of an IPhone 7.

So I'm interested in one now for the additional storage capacity and water resistance, because it is kind of nerve wracking keeping my SE dry and safe because I'm out in all kinds of weather gardening and with kids sports and school picnics (rain or shine) and we do a lot of sledding and pool activities. We are always around water somehow.

Because I have the Note 7, I don't care that much about iPhone 7 not having dual cameras. N7 is fancy enough and I don't care about bokeh for cell phones and when I do want bokeh I have a Canon DSLR. The reason I don't rush out and buy the iPhone 7 now is I'm waiting for sufficient stock to be on hand in case I get a bum one and need a return. Part of me does also want to see what Samsung does for the S8. However, I don't think any Samsung can hold up to life in my pocket. Not while they are obsessed with all-glass design and curved screens.

However, I'm not retiring the SE. Only the SE can fit into some of my pockets. The SE is the ultimate pocket phone of the phones I'd be willing to own. I would just switch the sims between the SE and the iPhone 7.

There is an iPhone with a Duel camera?

[doublepost=1474746717][/doublepost]I loved my 6+ whenever I was using it, but the hugeness in my pocket was frustrating. It made way too many tasks difficult and uncomfortable: sitting, putting on my shoes, climbing stairs, getting in my car, hiking, etc.

I bought the 7, and while I miss the bigger battery and the bigger screen, I'm really glad I did it. I'm a pretty active person and carrying around the plus just doesn't work for active people.

Ideally I would like a 5.0" or 5.1" screen with no bezels. I like a big screen, but I also like a small footprint.

I haven't seen the keynote so I may be wrong but isn't the only Benifit of the duel cam is to 2x zoom instantly and blur the background?

Seem like a waste of money unless the pics come out actually clearer/more vibrant..

It also has a bigger display, better battery life, and an extra gig of ram.

I am not saying you're wrong but that's funny because the SE's keyboard was the iPhone's keyboard for 7 years and we survived!
of course, we had to - before Apple finally released larger screen options.

did you only mean about the native keyboard? I mentioned the two third-party keyboards because people will say to try a different keyboard. it doesn't make much of a difference...

then people will say to change the text size. well, you'll either have tiny text on a tiny screen (my vision is becoming more poor as I'm getting older) or barely enough text within the tiny viewing area.

I was merely saying I believe the 4.7" has the best overall balance as I might have mistakenly thought you were deciding between the SE and 7. ✌️

You can do Bokeh on your note 7. It's just called selective focus on there ;)

if that feature hasn't changed from the Note5, then it's not quite the same thing. and you have to hold the phone still for a few while Portrait Mode for the Plus is supposed to work instantaneously which is what the 3GB RAM is supposedly for. but it does have a larger aperture that should add some natural bokeh like a standard fast lens would.

Well we don't know how good it will be on the 7 plus. It's essentially the same thing, background blurring. Although I think Apple might have implemented it better. I've used it on the S5 and the S7 edge and it works almost instantaneously.

I just exchanged my 7 Plus with a 7. I'm happy with it.

I never was bothered by the size of my 6 Plus. It took like a week to get used to, then I loved it. I was adept at one-handed use without a case too. But with the 7, I just wanted a change. Using the regular 7 after the Plus being so natural is uncomfortable for me. I feel like I'm more likely to drop it even though it fits in my hand better. The spacing of UI elements also makes me a little uncomfortable. But I did it just because I wanted a change. The uncomfortable feeling of something new is actually something I enjoy, not fear.

We can get used to anything. When I see people say things like "I could never go back," I think wow you really don't have much faith in your neuroplasticity, despite the countless times you've adapted to things in the past.

Selective focus takes 3 consecutive shots (thus the need to hold still for a few) focusing at 3 different distances. if you're going to use it for bokeh, then the bokeh you're getting is true. you're just limited to how large the lens aperture is. Portrait Mode uses software to combine two images (of two completely different field of view/depth of field) taken from both the Plus' cameras simultaneously which seems to enhance the effect.

people are already using Portrait Mode on some pre-release thing. so far the samples are looking impressive.

Yes I don't doubt that it will be great and I'm looking forward to getting it on my 7 plus.

Rocked the plus for two years and finally switched to regular sized 7 because of the great trade in deals and lower price.

Surprisingly happy. Forgot my phone was in my pocket for the first time in two years. Battery life is amazing. The plus is better at battery life when it comes to idleing, but otherwise isn't significantly different. If you charge your phone during the day the difference is meaningless. The extra size of the screen on the plus was nice, but switching to the smaller model doesn't seem to have changed my usage at all. I can mostly use this phone with one hand too. I can see the dpi difference with extremely zoomed out web pages with tiny text, but otherwise the screen looks just as good.

Not gonna begrudge anyone who loves the plus, but the bezels were just too damn big and the form factor unwieldy. Was never a deal breaker, but having used that for two years it's much easier to make an informed decision this time around.

cheers to that!

I'm starting to see larger phones more and more. I remember when I had the original galaxy note and everyone stared at it like it was from out of space lol
^
I remember when a friend of mine switched from iPhone to Android - it was when the first Note came out. he went on a trip to Paris and London and made a video of his trip, and people were giving him weird looks, wondering what kind of mobile device he was using. loll

when I started the Note series since the Note 3, it eventually seemed a bit small to me. it used to look big to me seeing other people hold them. but then again, I'm just under 6'6" with, I guess, fairly large hands. but the Plus model iPhones are still big and clunky to me (yet has a 0.2" smaller screen than the recent Notes).

but I also don't mind the larger borders iPhones have. on my Galaxy S6 edge, I was always catching the sides of the screen. hated that. never a problem on my S6 though. on my Note5 whenever I'd hand my phone off to someone to check out something, they'd always touch my capacitive buttons. never a problem on my 6s Plus. I tend to use the top and bottom borders to handle my iPhones by. maybe Apple can go a bit smaller. and I wouldn't mind thinner side borders for an edge-to-edge display, I'd most likely have a bumper to accommodate. but I hope Apple doesn't go with it, curved.

I used it to photograph some pottery. I got a bit of barrel distortion owing to the wide angle of the lens, I believe. That is one area in which the 2x lens on the 7 Plus will have an edge in portrait photography. Less of this sort of thing:

I personally like the size of the 7. I will probably never get the plus sized iPhone just because its too big to me. I have small hands.

Current 7+ owner, debating returning it for the 7.

I love the battery life of the Plus, but the size might be a little much for me to handle. I'm also starting a new job that will keep me pretty busy and out of the office, and carrying this thing around might not be the most convenient thing in the world.

The 'blur the background' effect, also known as bokeh, is actually quite a big deal, especially for a smartphone. Its only a matter of time until 3rd party apps figure out other unique ways of using both cameras. Its also an optical zoom, not just a digital, which means much sharper photos at 2x.
Don't know the blur stuff but 2x optical zoom looks not that great. Picture looks still blurry when playing demo phone.

The 2x optical doesn't work indoors or in low light. That's digital zoom. The telephoto photos outside look really good.
