I think it's great they named it after Jesse :)

Fine, it's a cool name, but is it a California landmark on the same level as Yosemite or Big Sur? Should we look forward to macOS Gardena or macOS Tarzana in the future?
Agreed. It doesn't even feel regionally important. If it weren't for the signs on US-101 north, doubt many non-locals will even know about the place.

This is EXACTLY what I'm worried about! People who don't know anything about Ventura are gonna think the place must be cool because Apple to named an OS after it and will flock there only to find out it's a borderline-ghost town and be really let down!
Maybe some Apple exec was born or lived there at one time. Not a place to write home about…name sounds good for the OS, but that is about it.

Not too many “cool names” left to name an OS in California. Might be time to look at the next naming convention…

Maybe a cool surf spot like “The Wedge” or something or macOS Laguna, but that is it.

I doubt naming it Ventura has anything to do with an automobile or their highway. Why did they name the previous MacOS Monterey, well it’s a nice area to visit, there are many things to do, good food, fantastic seascapes. Is Ventura really similar in some ways yes. Previously you had Catalina a channel island, and Mavericks a notable coastline surfing area. So it’s likely about unique places along the California coastline as is Big Sur.
Yes, Ventura makes sense if you know Cali…now that I think more about it, Ventura does have some nice areas worthy of an OS name. Had to remember my youth…. :)

Lived there for 11 or so years, worked every day in Santa Barbara just a half hour away, place is great. If you dont get it, you just dont get it.

My parents bought a beach house in Ventura in '61 for $16,000 which was walking distance to the marina where we kept a 42' sailboat. We were spoiled as kids; going to Santa Cruz Island and even overnight trips down to Catalina. Those were the days .... :)

Oh man if only it was still that cheap haha. I moved around 2010, when the state budget went under IT were the first ones getting laid off at UCSB and I just couldn't afford it anymore. Rents and everything pretty much skyrocketed after that. Had a friend that sold his little house in Carpinteria for over a million about 10 years ago and headed to Florida with the money. That was absolutely my favorite city I've ever lived in, one of these days I'll be back instead of just visiting all my old friends.

I don't know how long ago you lived there, but Ventura was randomly brought up yesterday in conversation and they mentioned how seedy that place is
