um, who cares about specific facebook performance. i'm talking about general UI performance. and even more specifically, UI performance of much older macs being better than the RMBP.

I have no clue what MBPr you were using, but I have never seen lag from mission control or launchpad. Maybe I have a good MBPr? Seems to me people like you just find things to complain about. I have had no lag, except for on facebook and some other picture heavy sites. Most of the time though that is just because the pictures are loading. Also that happened with my prior macbook air and mbp also. Maybe I cannot see the lag or something, but I have never noticed it. But then again I am not looking for it either. Have you owned a MBPr at all?

As the individual you must filter the content of the internet very carefully, everyone is a "Pro", everyone is the "expert", for the most part they are not, some are well informed, the majority are not. If you need help to make a significant purchase, or qualification on hardware, wait for a recognised source, not the kid with 10 minutes hands on in Best Buy ;)

Those that actually own a Retina Mac, will get it. i see very little issue with the Retina, then again nor am i deliberately looking to replicate issue outside of my normal workflow, as this is of no value to me.

um i'm on one right now. so yes. i guess you don't do much on your RMBP then. thats fair.

Specifically what tasks exhibit UI performance issues? The only framerate issue I've noticed so far is the dock zoom animation - and that's because the integrated GPU sucks. The resolution doesn't make a difference in that case (even when plugged into my external 1680x1050 monitor). If I use gfxcardstatus to switch to the discrete GPU, that particular animation speeds up. So it's not an rMBP issue. Everything else -- scrolling, mission control, expose, and all the various swiping animations are working as smoothly as any other mac for me.

They were not nearly as smooth on Lion. So even if it isn't 100% smooth now (I think it is), it's not fair to say that ML "did nothing" for the lag. Because that's simply untrue.

I do a lot on my MBPr, I wouldn't have bought it if I wasn't replacing my desktop for it. I play games all the time, heck most of the time my macbook is running a game. No lag in games, that is for sure :) Of course I downscale the resolution, but gaming at 2880x1800 would kill performance.

Most apps look great. Those that don't are still useable. I'm not entirely what reasons exist NOT to get a rMBP if you can justify the purchase. From just a day-to-day usage standpoint, it's still much better than the alternatives.

Scientists say that human being use less than 3% of his brain. Most people here would say you are using less than 3% of your rMBP... :D

Don't you know the reasons yet to NOT get a rMBP? Definitely, your subconscious is blurring your mind...

I loved my MBA but I found that I'm needing a larger screen, eyes are starting to betray me. The screen on the retina is easily the best there is. The programs I use look fine on it. I dumped Office for LibreOffice which looks great on the retina.

Now with ML Safari is finally useable again! It has been the worst of the browsers for a while now but it seems that Apple FINALLY got it fixed.

Wait to get a retina if your most used apps look bad. If you're like me and your apps look good or you can change to apps that look good then jump on the retina.
