A better solution would be an led on the front to light your face when using FaceTime, like the have on the iMac/MacBook pros, that could also be used to blink for notifications

I find it amusing how lazy people have become.
So lazy that to even push a simple button.....once.....has people complaining.

Its not about being lazy... Even though my phone is kept near me on a table I do not have a habit of checking it time and again... I would check it in, say once in 3-4 hours... and in case I missed the message sound I wouldn't know I had a message for the next couple of hours... I could've have missed something important...

That said, it would be neat if the white square in the centre of the button just glowed... Like the outer ring does on the square button of the HTC Desire Z (T-Mobile G2)... The most ideal way I feel...

I can't believe 85 people voted "no"... I would've imagined a dedicated notification light to be on everyone's wish list. I guess we know who the Apple-sheep are. :p

I think it'd be pretty could if they put in a ring of Lights IN the home button. (Where the white square is. Replace that with lights.)

Aaaahhh so sick.
:)

LED - Home Button

Why would I wish for my iPhone to bear any resemblance to any other device, (ie Blackberry)?? After all if something new has come in you can set the sound to alert you....if you are close enough to see a light you are close enough to hear a sound........

What if your phone is on silent?

What if you missed the sound because you were on another call or busy doing something else or stepped away for a minute...?

I would like Apple to add a notification light to the iPhone in some way, but I don't think the home button is a good choice. IMO, it will likely go away and be replaced with an on screen button in the future a la the Galaxy Nexus.

Some of us don't go anywhere, even for a minute, without our phones.

Mine only sits alone on my stand, when I'm in the shower. When I wake up, the first thing I do is pick up my phone and check it.

im definitely into that idea. i came from a storm 2 that flashed red when i got something. definitely annoying to hit the home button to find out

I can't believe that people would not want an option. The notification system of the iPhone is miserable. I don't want a sound to wake someone else up if I get a message. And if I don't want anything blinking, then I can turn it off. And if it were even close to adequate, you would have the option of having each notification option separately, so that only one of your three email clients would flash if you want it to, and you could individually turn on or off notifications for texts, or calls.

Not that I didn't know that before I got an iPhone, but there's absolutely no reason for not providing the owner options with regard to notifications. If primitive hardware phones like the Pre can offer multiple options, and every other operating system offers it, you would think Apple would consider having it as an option. Rationalize it all you want, it's just a matter of providing options to the consumer.

You can be an apple fan boy(like me) and still want improvement. I am not sure what the fuzz is about people who insist that apple way is the only way.
LED light for notification is NO brainer. If you don't like it, turn it off. If you do want it, let us have that freaking option.

IN fact, iPhone is turning me off SO much that I am even WILLING to look into android based tablet next year.

So far I own macbook 2009/ipad 2/iphone 4s/imac 27 2011/ipod touch 4.
I love every single product EXCEPT this stupid iPhone 4s. I don't LOVE it like I love all other product i bought from apple.

Hell yes to both LED notification and swype. I love my iPhone but I severely miss the LED notifier (and the physical keyboard) of my old trusty Blackberry. RIP.

They could even do like the T-Mobile G1 did by hiding the little led in the edge of the speaker. You couldn't even tell it was there when not blinking.
