I have a feeling that if they switch to a touch activated home button for the next gen, we might see this.

I like the LED flash for notifications, but I never put my phone face down... so... yeah...

I've tried using this, but that light is so damn bright that i had to turn it off.

If it were something like the home button glowing, i think i would really enjoy it.

Apple Customer Service,

Can I exchange my new iPhone? I pushed the home button and crushed the notification LED. Thanks.

:)

Maybe it's due to thinness or space issues, and because the button has to be physically depressed in order to be utilized. With the next home button rumored to be changed, larger and capacitive, maybe this is a potential change we'll see.

I'm all for it!

It wouldn't take up that much space.

Been sayin' this for 4 years. I like this idea better than a home button light because if your thumb covers the LED, you may not see the LED.

I soo agree. a Led will be so useful! I hate turning on the screen to view messages..just flash a lil light and notify me.

flashing home button

All excellent ideas on how this would work. Its a nice detail that I am surprised Apple did not think of and implement. Next model I hope.

One of the major missing features IMHO.

Imagine a subtle blinking LED on the front face that flashed green for a voicemail/missed call, blue for a Facebook message, orange for a text, red for low battery...etc.

So much for keeping it simple....

Sound is much more useful in this situation IMO. Who sits around looking at their phone when they aren't using it? Then again if it was an option it wouldn't bother me, I just wouldn't use it.

EDIT: oh wait, you are talking about a persistent notification? Oh dear, I think the battery drains fast enough as it is.

Well of course all of this would (should) be customizable. You could theoretically have one light for all your notifications if you wanted.

Yeah, because Apple is so well known for providing the ability to customize things...

The blinking notification is probably the only reason why I miss my blackberry. I love the idea of just having a simple "halo" ring around the home button that pulses different colors for different notifications. Sort of reminds me of Tron, haha.

A blinking LED would use very little power and would blink for weeks if the phone did not suck up so much power doing it's regular thing. Hitting the home button, all the time, to see if you had an alert uses way more power that a stupid little LED:mad:

You all are not sufficiently addicted to your iPhones.

This whole concept of 'being close enough to see my iPhone but the screen isn't on' ... Yeah. That's not really something that I understand.

Yea yea .... agreed.

Just make the home button icon glows for notification, you know .. LED blinking with the same phase like when you sleep your MBP.

Flash led blinking for notification is LAME at best .. please Apple, just add that for the next iPhone.

When I had an android phone, I liked the idea of a blinking led to notify me of a message, now that I have an iPhone I've gotten used to not having it.

Would it be nice, yeah but its not a killer feature and I can live without it.
