the implementation of it. no need for charging/full charge alert..but the concept of subtle colors for different notifications
The iPhone has a great battery, it really doesn't need a charging indicator LED.

Because I don't want it to. It takes away from the look of the phone. Get a blackberry, those blink!

People said the same about the front facing camera and LED Flash, and Apple found a way to elegantly implement both. Will do the same with a notification led if Sir Cupertino wishes so.

Im sure it'll be in in the next, iPhone . In apple I trust. I mean, apple likes perfection, they probably know the flash of iPhone 4 doesn't looks good, so they'll find a way to improve the alert , that is by adding led at the front

I would love a notification LED, but only if it has full user customizability in terms of which events (not just apps) give off LED notifications and which don't. This is where Apple can take a hint from BlackBerry, where every aspect of the notification system (sound, vibration, LED) is customizable on a per-event basis.

It's easy to make the LED become a part of the existing face of the phone, especially on the home button. Get over it.

agreed. it had been awhile since i really looked at that mockup. just threw it up to give everyone an idea of what it would look like. like i said, the implementation of it in the mockup is awesome. just not for battery noticiations

edit: double post

I would have started this thread myself, but I figured someone else had already thought of the idea and I was right.

The LED flash is inadequate in iOS 5. The phone must be in silent mode and it only flashes briefly when an event occurs.

This is a great idea to give iPhone users a more practical notification light.

Some people on here are so ignorant, that it's rather funny. It'll take away from the look of the phone? You've gotta be joking me.

It's a bit comical how all the iPhone folks think it would annoy them while Android folks can't live without LED notifications.

My previous phones have had LED notifications on the front ( on the dial button or else where ) .. very very useful - at a glance useful to check any notifications / missed calls etc.

Of course, the option has always been there to turn it off.

Maybe it's due to thinness or space issues, and because the button has to be physically depressed in order to be utilized. With the next home button rumored to be changed, larger and capacitive, maybe this is a potential change we'll see.

I'm all for it!

One of the major missing features IMHO.

Imagine a subtle blinking LED on the front face that flashed green for a voicemail/missed call, blue for a Facebook message, orange for a text, red for low battery...etc.

Maybe up on top where the speaker is?

Definitely one of the features I miss from my old MT3G.

That's exactly what I was thinking! I had an old sanyo flip phone years ago that did this.

That is actually an amazing idea I reckon. :D It'd be great for low light conditions and notifications-it could pulse 2 or 3 times maybe.

I have a feeling that if they switch to a touch activated home button for the next gen, we might see this.

I like the LED flash for notifications, but I never put my phone face down... so... yeah...
