To you.

I have an iPhone 11.

After a couple of drops after I'd gone caseless, the screen cracked. No problem! Half a year later, another drop and the top third of the screen stopped being responsive (digitiser issue). Reachability has solved that, although I had to iPhone Mirror to my laptop to enable it, as the option to turn it on is in the top third of the screen!

So ... a pretty big upgrade for me, from a 6 year old, degraded battery, damaged iPhone 11 😁
Seams like a good upgrade 👍

Tho your cases might be rare in the 70% of people who are upgrading… maybe that’s 10%

beacuse my phone is 3 years old and my battery is not lasting all day. If I wait longer (ie till next year's cycle), I lose more trade in value on my current phone. I'm not one to get caught in the trap of something better always being around the corner.
Sure you lose some trade value but it might be worth it to wait…

If the battery doesn’t last all the day well it’s good for your health to not be on the phone all the day !

The iPhone 17 looks like a pretty small upgrade to me, the iPhone air looks to me like a bad deal because of the camera and battery.

So you've seen the specs on the camera and the quality of the images? You've tested the batteries in these phones and you know how long they last?

Well please share some facts with us. I know people are interested.

My guess is that people upgrading to the iPhone 17 Pro are 14 Pro users or above… battery should be fine on them to last all the day with normal/small usage… <<< always good to not be on the phone all the day

For those who wants the normal or the air like I said, consider the 16 Pro !

My iPhone 14 Pro is in bad condition, battery health low, but it's usable. Ill only upgrade if I say wow.
Yeah in your case with cracked back it’s understandable but not many people have this problem… unfortunately it looks like the iPhone 17 pro will be a small upgrade… some performance upgrades and camera zoom… that’s it.

But what you said was that the rumored Air looked like "a bad deal because of the camera and battery." so I was asking what facts you had that you were basing that on. Your reply mentioned none of that.

Oh well check this page : https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/iphone-17-air/#battery

You can see that the iPhone air will have 1 cam, which is probably going to be similar as the iPhone 16e who doesn’t have many cameras features… and the battery on the normal iPhone will be better than the air… According to rumors 20% of users will need to charge their phone again in the same day (according to the same article who talks about 60 to 70% of users will be able to go a full day without charge comparing to 80% to 90%)

Don’t forget that we are less than one week from the event and most rumors are true at this point, iOS 26 got even leaked.

Many of us have the iPhone 14 Pro, if you don't really care about AI (and I don't understand why you would), then I don't feel it's worth to upgrade. There is no revolution here...
I can see two reasonable reasons (1) your current phone is failing or (2) your current phone is about to transition from vintage, as well as the I want the latest trinket reason

All of that about hardware is speculation about the Air, which is only one of the rumored iPhone 17 lineup. Your headline is about the 17, a different model. But even for the Air, once again, let us know when you have facts about the image quality and battery life that you claimed, thanks!

Many of us have the iPhone 14 Pro

And many of us don't have an iPhone 14 Pro, as well. And your point is?

If you're comparing the rumored Air to a Pro..... it kinda sounds like confirmation bias to me. Honestly this is just another one of those threads.

Good reasons, upgrade is good then… even (3) you have no phone or come from android !

My post is for all 17 iPhones…

- Wanna get 17 > Get 16 Pro (better phone because 17 is a small update)

- Wanna get 17 Air > 16 Pro way better again, 17 Air looks like a 16e v2 so a 17e

- Wanna get 17 Pro/Max > Most who want this are 14 Pro, 15 Pro, 16 Pro or Max users who might be able to wait… Yeah if you come from a 13 Pro or a no pro phone and wanna get the Pro… well iPhone 17 Pro can be cool tho the 16 Pro can be found cheaper and really similar…

I have the 15 PM and moving to the 17 PM for the camera upgrades alone but will welcome the other changes. My decision is based on want not need, and the fact that cost isn’t a concern.

Weren’t the only real differences from 13 to 14 Pro AOD and Dynamic Island? Not exactly revolutionary…
Bro forgot many changes, camera got upgraded to 48mp, 2x optical zoom, better battery, sos via satellite and the other satellite features, A16 chip and more !

Imo, the 17 Pro and Pro Max are very ugly because of the new camera layout.

If I upgrade, which I don’t plan to at this point, it would likely be to downsize to the base 17 or 17 Pro

The iPhone 17 Pro seems like a great upgrade from the iPhone 14 Pro I’m using now. Better display, better camera, better CPU, more memory, better radios, WiFi 7, newer battery, maybe better speaker. On the other hand, the iPhone 14 Pro is still very useful making it worthwhile to gift this to someone in my family. Win-Win.

I went from an 8 Plus to a 14, and I don’t expect to upgrade until the 19 or 20, so I’ve got time to decide which specific model I want.

People upgrade for all sorts of reasons, and it’s deeply silly to try to police them because you don’t like a thing. Maybe they value different things to you!

I’ve already got a 16 Pro that is about 6 months old. I want a 17 PM. What should I do sensei?

i have the 13 pro max, 14 pro max, 15 pro max and 16 pro max. Gets upgraded yearly and goes down the family line. The 13 pro max was the most solid phone along the 16 pro max for us I’m actually sad i have to sell it. The 14 pro max battery didnt last long health wise was not even as good as the 13 pro max. The 15 pro max overheats too quickly. The 16 pro max is near perfect although would love to have more memory (assuming its not going to be locked away for ai use like pixel) and hoping for a brighter screen I do notice my 16pm getting dim fairly quickly. For the first year these phones get hammered daily with intensive use so looking forward to even an incremental upgrade.

For me the question is rather, why wouldn’t I upgrade from my 16 PM? The cost is small enough to not really matter and it is fun to try what’s new and latest.

I think the Air looks fun, slimmer and lighter while I guess giving a glimpse to some of the tech Apple is using for next years foldable which I will get instantly.
