Huh? I have a 15PM. Why would I buy a 15 pro?

My point is that the carriers are always offering a huge incentive if you're willing to swap from another carrier to their carrier. Why would I pass that up if I'm planning to switch to them anyways?
Sorry I mean you can buy the iPhone 15 Pro Max that you already have if you are in a 2 year plan

Ahh. I think I have it financed for 3 years with Verizon. I believe that's part of the switching deal is that they buy out the remaining payments so you can trade your phone into them (the new carrier). We're going to wait for the 17 lineup to launch, take a bill from our old carrier and walk into the new store and see if they can sell us on switching. We really want to switch, so hopefully it works out the way I think it will.

I bought a refurbished 14 Pro from Amazon and returned it within the 90-day period. It was a great phone, but a bit heavy for its small size.

I must admit, though, it's built like a tank and is really durable. However, I noticed a weaker signal compared to my 13R, which I got for under $ 400 with trade-in.

I am looking at the 16+ after the 17 series is released; the price should drop a bit, as Apple is going to discontinue the plus series.

Don't buy amazon refurbished, we never know what's inside the phone, get Apple refurbished instead !

The iPhone 17 looks like a pretty small upgrade to me, the iPhone air looks to me like a bad deal because of the camera and battery... So why the 17 ??? Many of us have the iPhone 14 Pro, if you don't really care about AI (and I don't understand why you would), then I don't feel it's worth to upgrade. There is no revolution here...
Since when is a revolution necessary to justify upgrading to a new product? If one is happy with an old product, keep using it. If one likes a newer product, upgrade. It is very simple. And one person does not decide for others.

Oversimplifying, it breaks down into two camps:

Camp 1: I need a new phone because my current iPhone is dying, slow, bad battery, so old it won't be supported by Apple and 3rd party software, etc. Now that I know I need a new phone, I'll start looking to see which iPhone suits my needs and budget.

Camp 2: New iphones are are being released! Look at the the shiny new phones, then decide which shiny new phone I want.

"Need" and "want" are not the same. There's nothing wrong with upgrading your iPhone if you want to. It's your money. But that's not the same as needing to replace an iPhone that is no longer fully functional.

Both camps are fine, but they are very different motivations, and it helps to not conflate the two.
That analysis is so simplistic [A failed versus B shiny toy] as to be flat wrong. There are also all the buyers [probably the largest cohort] that want/need any of the many upgrades that newer tech provides; camera competence being the most obvious.

Just wait until the iPhone 18 or even 19… There is no big reason to get the 17 pro max… Do you have a problem with your iPhone 16 Pro currently? If not then you can wait and save money.
But I want a 17 PM. That is enough reason to me to get a 17 PM. I really don’t understand why you feel you can question the purchasing choices of others.

Better get a real good camera instead of upgrading your phone every year or 2 just because it has a «better camera»

That's why the word "oversimplify" is there in the first line. You're leveling a criticism at a comment that already acknowledged the criticism before the criticism was made.

As for people buying a new phone year on year because of "new features" and incremental improvements, I've be of the opinion that the incremental updates are too small to justify upgrading every year or two years.

Upgrading often to have the very latest specs and features is still about "want", not "need". I simply doing buy that there will be mission-critical tasks an iPhone 17 will be able to do that an iPhone 15 or 16 can't.

The improvements year on year are simply not that big a jump. The camera improvements each year are not close to being so significant as to make the previous year's model redundant. I also don't believe that the majority of iPhones buyers are professional photographers. Better camera are a nice thing, but the camera improvements do not automatically make the owner better at photography.

If someone wants to upgrade their phone every year or two years, there's no reason why not, off it makes them happy.

But it's not essential that they do so.

It's kind of hilarious how many people are making absolute declarative statements about products that are not even announced yet; we can be reasonably sure that most of the rumors are accurate, but "The iPhone Air will be [thing]" is pretty funny to say when the person saying it has never seen one, touched one, seen final specs for one, or even read a firsthand account from anyone who has used one.

That said, my answer is really easy, and it applies to a lot of people: I can trade in a 2-year old iPhone Pro for a brand-new iPhone Pro for around $100 on my cell phone plan, so why on earth would I not upgrade?

Heck, even if the iPhone 17 Pro were exactly the same as the iPhone 15 Pro I'm trading in, it would still be worth the trade-in upgrade just to get a phone with 2 years less wear on the battery and hardware. Better yet, it's not--it will probably have a modestly nicer camera, and be modestly faster, and maybe have modest other upgrades.

@Astuces iOS mate, where did you find the wisdom of the gods? Who gave you the sacred task of making all the rest of the world make the same decisions you do? We have this thing called freedom. Everyone can decide for themselves, with their own reasoning, and get what they want.

You could talk about the excesses of consumer capitalism if you want, there’s something to be said there, though there are good defences to that when talking about iPhones.

I have an iPhone 14. I still love it. I don’t plan to get a new one until the 19 or 20 come out. Unless someone asks me for advice, I’m not going to tell them what they should be buying! Anyway, my advice would be different for different people, depending on their circumstances.

This is so far Apple's best lineup in its entire history of computer making. The announcement of Apple iPhone 17 is even bigger than the original iPhone. Apple is also deciding to announce that starting September 9th they will start selling meat in their stores. Beef and chicken prices would be amazingly low, their meat going to charge you for full day.

I am confident the 17 Pro line will have a much nicer screen than the 14 Pro. We will see next week if I'm right. Whether someone wants to upgrade or not is entirely subjective.

You don't get to tell us what are good reasons (or not) for the decisions we make.

Please consider that, and stop this. You may think you're being helpful, but you're not.
You can still buy the iPhone if you want, I’m just sharing my opinion and many agree with me. If you don’t it’s ok too.

Personally as an Apple fan I hope too… tho I don’t think it will be the case unfortunately… But we will see guys !!

I think the iPhone 17 Pro will have :

- New pro camera app (maybe available for older iPhones, similar as Final Cut cam)

- A 48MP zoom cam (so the 3 cams will be 48mp)

- 8x optical zoom (5x optical gone), maybe something like x30 in digital zoom

- (maybe 3.5 optical zoom instead of the 2x optical zoom… tho not sure about this rumor)

- 8k videos

- A19 Pro chip

- 12gb of ram

- Better thermals

- Better battery

- Brighter display (x2)

- Changed design

- 256gb of base storage

Since A19, 12gb and thermals are all performances improvements, we can say that it’s one big improvement instead of 3… Same goes for the zoom…
