haha just saw this. Goodluck to the "cracked apps" people. This developer is smart.

A warning about pirated copies of Wi-Fi Sync: the app contains a variety of time delayed anti-piracy measures. Steal at your own risk; make sure your iTunes library is backed up. Legit paying customers are not affected by these measures.

Good, I hope a few pirates lose their libraries.

Cydia is a fantastic alternative to Apple's App Store and the small developers who work on various Cydia apps deserve to be PAID FOR THEIR WORK. This is a fantastic app. If you don't think it's worth $10 OK but don't steal it.

Yeah it's gonna be great when the DRM ****s up and hurts innocent customers.

What happens if your on your laptop on a train and someone with wifi sync sits next to you and turns it on? Can that person sync with your mac? lol

Imagine everyone complaining with iPhone OS 4 comes out with it. Do people even bother reading patents anymore?

Except that iPhoneOS 4 is NOT going to come out with it. WiFi sync was never mentioned as one of their "tent poles" in the iPhoneOS 4 event. Wouldn't you think they would have mentioned something of this significance?

Chulk up another one for rotten to the core, control-obsessed, heavy handed company and its dictator-in-chief Steve Jobs.

I keep wondering why Apple are not in breach of contract when they keep doing that.

Apparently Apple are now above the law.

What contract? Did you ready the Apple App Store EULA?? It is written in that contract that Apple can reject or pull any app, for any reasons, without any explanation.

Why developers still support this rotten company is beyond me.

The issue here is not private API. It is sand boxing.

Everything synced from iTunes should be in the sand box, and apps shouldn't have access to it. However, iPhone OS hasn't implemented the complete sandboxing, so it is possible for a developer to reverse engineer the files to figure out how to write to the system.

It is not a safe way. When Apple changes something (folder structure, file format, etc), the app would break.

If the developer transfers un-DRMed music to his own app folder with wifi, and have his own player for it, I doubt the app would be rejected.

No. First you need to install software on your Mac for this to work. Next you need to pair your device with your Mac once in order for it to work when you launch the sync application.

You did watch the video where all of this is explained right ?

Why hasn't Apple done this themselves by now? Its 2010 and they have been sticking Bluetooth and Wifi into every computer they sell for the last half decade. Seems stupid to have to keep plugging your iPod / iPhone in via USB cable when the infrastructure for wireless sync is already there.

The "tent poles" were only for features that developers can make use of. Other features will still be in 4.0. Maybe Wi-Fi syncing, who knows. I expect to see some others like Google Maps with Navigation and/or a new lock screen etc.

Because when Apple finally releases it, it will be magical. And all the nay-sayers that are backing Apple here will proclaim how great Apple is for being truely innovative yet again while the competition is being lazy.

Or just see the copy/paste thread during the iPhone OS 3 release.

Android is getting there, but what about Itunes, is there really an alternative that works, have not seen that part. Hard to believe no one has done it in a way that it works.

What about iTunes? You can sync your iTunes library with Android devices using doubleTwist. Or if you don't want to use iTunes - you can sync your media by simply dropping your content to flashcard /Music folder. AND you can do it wirelessly.

You see, that's the beauty of Android - it doesn't lock you into any particular software or vendor "ecosystem".. You can use whatever you want, however you want it. There is no "App Store" approver team or Steve Jobs to tell you what you can or cannot use.

I'm not siding with Apple but I'm certainly not siding with the developer either. This forum makes me ill sometimes. Nobody here knows the full reasons for the rejection, but as soon as you hear Apple rejected an new app from a developer you're all quick to tell Apple to go to hell.
I can at least be open-minded and give both sides the benefit of the doubt. There's always a reason and it doesn't have to be to screw people over.

There is no possible "good reason" for rejecting a perfectly useful and functional app. The only justifications would be if an app broke a law or gained unauthorized access to users data. In this case, I am pretty sure it's neither of the two.

It's just another example of Apple's heavy handed and control grabbing behavior. Sure they have WiFi Sync functionality on the roadmap for some future iPhoneOS release. That is no reason to reject this app. Give users options and choices. If Apple's future implementation is superior - this 3rd party app will evolve or die its natural death. Apple's approach to these sort of issues is really beyond pale.

So it didn't break any app store rules but was still rejected?

Well, obviously, they're more like "guidelines" than steadfast rules. At the end of the day, Apple will do whatever the frak it feels like and if you don't like it, go to the Windows platform or cry home to mommy because there isn't a darn thing you can do about it! Muahahahahahahaha.

Seriously, I think Roger Waters should re-record his song "What God Wants (Part I)" and change it to "What Jobs Wants" because that about says it all, really. "What Jobs wants, Jobs gets, Jobs help us all! (Chant: What Jobs Wants, Jobs Gets!)"

This is obviously something uncle Steve has in mind for us, and thus:

Not invented by Apple = app rejection.

No Apple patent technology = app rejection.

No real reason for app rejection = mention possible security issues, without offering help to solve the issues at hand.

Now wait for Apple to introduce this in one of their upgrades.

<predicted_quote>Look. No wires. Isn't that AMAZING!!!</predicted_quote>

Apple already has a patent for wireless sync to a portable device. They already do it for AppleTV. The difference is that device has 802.11n wireless.

When iPhone has 802.11n, then start whinging about a lack of wirelss sync. I expect it for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch the next time iTunes is updated, either June or September.

Clearly, you know nothing about wireless technology. Magically improving wireless speeds does not mean anything will sync faster.802.11n will not make a difference. The current iPhone (and it appears next one as well) would bottleneck on the memory and cpu.

$10 for WiFi Sync?

How many people really hate the USB cord so much they want to do it wireless?

Not for me.

I come home from a business meeting. I only have a few minutes and need to go back out. I took down contact info during that meeting. The computer is upstairs, the USB cable is god knows where.

I hit sync on the phone as soon as it sees the wireless, the contact info is synced back and saved to my computer in case anything happens to the phone.

There is your dumb scenario. There are many other instances in which this is useful, you don't need particular scenarios.

And again, because JAT doesn't like it or see any pros, nobody should! JAT is always right, he's like a Steve Jr.

Get over yourself.

Mobileme already handles that quite well and you don't have to be home near your computer for the sync to happen.

This is why having an Apple-owned content distribution system is a conflict of interests. Mobile Me? Who would get it if they had this app? Few. Yet the app does for $10 much of what Mobile Me does for $100/mo.

Hooray for competition and progress.

-Clive

Uh, Mobile does a lot more than this app that was rejected. Secondly, Mobile is NOT $100/mo, it's per year and you can get it off Ebay for half that price. ;)

What does he mean by "A warning about pirated copies of Wi-Fi Sync: the app contains a variety of time delayed anti-piracy measures. Steal at your own risk; make sure your iTunes library is backed up. Legit paying customers are not affected by these measures.?
What are these measures is he the first to do such things?
