Will an Apple Genius put a screen protector on for me?

I went in there yesterday to ask that specifically, He said no they don't since they're not trained to do so. Some Apple stores may though..

i bought two from apple, one for iphone 4 and iphone 5, they installed both of them flawlessly. I watched them install one on launch day on a 6. Could be just my apple store.

2011 up until a couple of months ago in DC and NC. It's a liability issue I suppose. I would never feel comfortable doing it because I didn't want to be the guy to mess it up.

Genius's have a lot more liability to worry about than putting a $17 screen protector on a phone. They do in-store repairs of phones, iMacs, MBPs, and so on, for goodness sake.

Not to be rude, but if you don't feel comfortable, as a Genius, with putting a screen protector on a phone, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting you work on my $2500 laptop if an issue came up.

i'm notoriously clumsy putting these things on. Always get bubbles. If I buy a protector in the store, will they put it on for me? Will I need a genius appointment? Does Best Buy do it also?

No. They won't. Don't know about BB, except that they'll try to sell you something else.

When was this? What store?

I've seen Apple Store employees here in Aventura, FL doing this since at least the 3GS.
I worked as a Genius at Aventura for 6 years... the rule from Apple was a flat NO, but local store management permitted it but at discretion of the employee applying it. In reference to techs declining to apply screen protectors but repairing $3000 machines-- well, Apple insures us fully to fix that machine, we break something, they pay in full. If we fumble a 3rd party screen protector, management has to penny out a film because the customer complains... so I'm sure you understand the disinclination.

We have Ghost Armor kiosks in a couple of malls around here.

I calculated that it was about a $6 additional charge to buy one on the spot and get them to put it on, compared to ordering it on Amazon and doing it myself.

It was worth the reduction in aggravation for me. :)

I had them put it on my HTC One M8 and my wife's Samsung S5...

The tape/hinge method produces great results. Do it in a humid bathroom, too.

I guess you leave all the original stuff intact on the screen protector. Attach two pieces of tape to the top edge and get it aligned. Then lift the bottom edge up and peel the underneath off and then lay it back down. Is that how you do it?

Yeah, and keep the adhesive facing down as you peel to minimize picking up any lint in the air. So you peel and lay down that section immediately in one fluid motion. I do this in a humid bathroom and get perfect results.

I'm sure you can find youtube videos doing it.

I just don't know if I want to put a protector on my 6. I've always had them, but with the curved edges and the poor fit most protectors are showing...I dunno.

The only reason I really put them on is so that if I do crack my screen, it'll keep everything in place so I can still use it until I get it fixed. I had this happen recently with my GS4. The protector got me by until my iPhone 6. That's the only time I've cracked a screen.

I've already put them on in a bathroom. Just never thought about the hinged method. Great idea.

Come to think of it, Apple sells this exact idea in a prepacked screen protector. Never thought of replicating that myself...doh.

Why don't you NOT waste time of the genius when people with real issues need them? Seriously, I am so sick of people wasting their time. Apple needs to cut back on it. So annoying.

The topic of this post highlights the current IQ of the Apple customer base.

This company is disappearing down Tim Cooks throat and coming out of fanboy arses.

Steve must be turning in his grave.

i've gotten a genius to put on my bodyguardz pure at the fifth avenue store when i was getting my iphone 5 replaced with applecare+ last year. depends how nice they are feeling.

Waste their time? You ever heard of customer service?

My Apple Store always does it for me (they offer) and I didn't have to ask whenever I purchase new ones from them.

Aventura, FL Apple Store.

They're lined up waiting for installation of screen protectors. Geesh.

Aventura has an extra-demanding clientele because it's mostly Central/South Americans who patronize the store. To afford Apple products in many of those countries, you're upper class. Full stop.

Apple is a middle-upper level luxury brand in America, like Lexus or BMW for cars. To south/Central Americans, it's more like Ferrari or Rolls. When they shop they expect and demand the highest level of service and treatment, and I can say the local Apple stores do a very good job handling it. This ain't Minnesota-nice around here, customers from abroad are tough and expect excellence, to say nothing of the invariable language barriers. Any South Floridian who has worked retail knows all too well that when you're handling three customers at once, and one speaks Russian, another Spanish and the third Portuguese... You're earning your money.
