One of my friends getting the iPhone 6S in rose gold just likes the color pink. He also has a pink car

Both GF and I wanted the new phone. She absolutely wanted the Rose Gold. I initially thought it looked cool and, after many versions of the black/space gray, I wanted to try something different. So I ordered us two Rose Gold phones. But the more pictures I saw, the less I liked it. It looked too much like a whitish/lavender-pink, and not the copper-pink that I see in the Apple photos. So, I canceled my Rose Gold and got the space gray. When I see hers I might wish I didn't change it, but dem's da breaks. :)

I'll relay an anecdote from my teenage years to help you dudes work through your difficult "color issues".

My Uncle Pat (RIP) was a manly man. As in this dude fought (and got shot) in Korea, worked construction in rural Maine, cleared land by ax, drove a tractor, fill in all the other red white and blue stereotypical American male stuff. At a family event, I was wearing a pink shirt and one of my cousins made a wise crack like "I thought real men don't wear pink?" Uncle Pat shot back, "A real man wears whatever the hell he likes."
I bet the cousin kept quiet for a bit afterwards.

Im a woman and think pink shade shirts, ties, watches etc. look great on men, very attractive and sophisticated. A guy can look gay in any color. How does a color make a man look gay or not? That's ridiculous. Only a guy insecure with his sexuality has a problem.

I would if it matched the rose gold colored watch that I have. But in pretty much every picture it looks pink more than anything. Pass.

Do you find it comforting to think in narrow, restrictive categories that let you generalize about what "men" want or what entire generations composed of complex, diverse people might want? Or do you just do it because you're intellectually lazy?

Maybe it's a "some folks have tastes different than yours and those tastes don't say anything other than the fact that people like what they like" thing.

I guess it is only YOUR opinion that counts and deserves to exist then? Right? He has the same right to an opinion as you do. Shame on you for trying to shame him for having it.

Wow...yeah that is incredibly pink. My wife agrees. "Why can't we have a color all our own. You all get everything else."

No Att store will have rose gold anything or 128 at launch

How do you know this? They told me there won't be many but they would have a couple 128 at least. Didn't specify a color. I'll just order online and wait if they don't have. It

Well, you can't argue with Sam Elliott.

Bottom line is people will hate on something they don't understand or want to understand. I own several pink shirts:cool: I am debating on getting the rose gold watch:D

It's so cute to see men get disarmed by a color. Fun fact: it's a bright happy color and nothing more. With that out of the way, I'm not really a fan of rose gold, though I do love me some pink. I'm also a fan of seafoam, scarlet, and other colors that are just colors.

My insecurity senses are tingling.

Seriously, if you have to reaffirm masculinity based off the color of an iPhone, it's time to reevaluate.

Sounds good. Please post a picture of yourself in a pink dress. You know, since youre so secure and all.

You basically have two variables here that carry with them a bias that EVERY one of us have:

[color] [object]

The COLOR itself carries a bias - based on culture, based on preference, based on emotion.
The OBJECT also carries a bias.

When you put the two together, you can have a wide gamut of feelings:

Pink underwear.
Pink dress.
Pink purse.
Pink hat.
Pink sunglasses.
Pink shirt.
Pink tie.
Pink suit.
Pink lemonade.
Pink iPhone.

The OBJECT gives the color context. But the hue itself is also a consideration:

When you see each of those colors, your thoughts and emotional response is likely different for each of them. For example, if the iPhone were "hot pink", I don't think I'd personally buy it (though I'm not saying a man shouldn't buy it).

Now imagine each of those colors with the objects I described above. Again, different responses. Which of these colors is the rose gold iPhone? It appears that it can change dramatically depending on the lighting, but I think this one is somewhere in the middle of the ones I've seen that were bright pink and the ones that were copperish in hue:

Juxtaposed with the colors above, the iPhone's "pink" is certainly not "hot pink" nor is it "salmon". But I think "rose" is certainly close, which is what Apple calls it. So whether you want to accuse Apple of misrepresenting the color or not is up to you, but certainly with the differences we've seen in photos, the "rose" part seems pretty accurate to me.

The point is that both color itself and the object in that color carry with it a bias that is different for everyone. If you think the rose gold iPhone looks pink, and you only think pink objects are for women, then that's true for you. But please don't make your opinion universal and assume that everyone thinks the same as you.

I don't really know what else can be said, other than we are fortunate to be living in a time where we can argue over the color of an electronic device that much of the population (including the population that makes it) cannot afford.

If I had one, sure.

I have no problem wearing dresses. Is it something I personally enjoy? No, it's not really my personal style, but it doesn't make a statement on my masculinity anymore than a girl with a short haircut and pants, and I'm not going to judge any guy who likes to.

I have straight friends who paint their nails. I'm a gay dude who doesn't do that. Are they now suddenly gay?
