The ironic thing is that Apple pretends to be environmental, at least it touts how its products are, yet it doesn't seem so long ago that there was an article saying how Apple were the biggest customer of a particular airline, and by a long shot. Commercial airlines use Jet Fuel' and jet fuel is still leaded... Leaded fuel was phased out decades ago for its toxicity... Apple will have flown in a number of people for this event.. Ironic lol
More like how Apple made their product more and more difficult to repair and upgrade its part. That includes computer parts that were once easily upgradable such as HDD, SSD and RAM

This is false.

TEL is used in avgas, which is used in small piston aircraft. Not in commercial aviation, where both turboprop and jet engines invariable use Jet-A or Jet-A1 or equivalents, which are not leaded.

There are ongoing efforts to get rid of the use of TEL even in avgas, but the British have allowed for leaded petrol in classic cars, unfortunately. Bit of a step back on that front.

anyway, Apple does not contribute to any poisoning of the world skies with lead, unless they fly everywhere in Cessna 172’s.

You can argue about that all day. Apple sees a demand for ever smaller and slimmer. The only exceptions are the Mac Pro. (They are working on a modular upgradable one, I think). The laptop sector has largely done the same. True, memory and ssd are usually replaceable, but it does not add significant if any cost to the environment if you let Apple handle the repair and recycling. The main cost to the environment is in producing new stuff and getting rid of old stuff. Not repair. If Apple makes the things very recyclable, this offsets things significantly. (This is why they use aluminum, and have removed those nasty bromide adaptives, etc)

The truly interesting parts to upgrade are the CPU and GPU, and those have been soldered on laptop mainboards since forever. MXM never went anywhere, which would have fixed that. (I have an old iMac that has MXM).

i think it's fine if anyone did it as long as they were largely responsible for reducing a substantial amount of carbon pollution. at least much more than they caused.
That’s only if they couldn’t effectively convey their message without flying private. Any reason their message wouldn’t resonate if they flew commercial?

Is the environment even real?

It doesn't matter whether it's real - IF you just decide to do one thing - Assume it is real!

Play it out in your imagination and see what would happen if you just did that.

If you do that, you can relieve yourself of bothering thinking about it. Who cares if Dinosaur farts once made ozone gas Millions of centuries ago, or thousands of years ago. Talking about it is a waste of time mostly. Laymen talk a lot about seemingly important pseudo-facts. Stuff like 'we only have been measuring temperatures for a few hundred years and the earth's history is millions of years - but do NOT get wrapped up in any of that discussion. Just assume that the environmentalists side of the story is the most correct and the one you will support 100%.

Assume it is real - then govern yourself accordingly:

1. Can you benefit from being "Green" in any way? For instance:
a) Maybe you can start selling solar panels, and get subsidies for your business startup or sell "Carbon Credits" (if you happen to be Canadian - just as an example)

b) sorting your household garbage can be a new enjoyable hobby

c) you can keep your eyes peeled for opportunities in any field that "increases Oxygen" etc.

d) your new lifestyle choices might be helping the environment to reduce global warming etc.

e) add your own here _______________________

2. Can it hurt you in any way to simply buy into being green?
a) It might seem to be costing you money and time.

b) if the "environment" as you say is truly baloney, then it could all be a waste of time an effort.

c) if you worked in the oil patch, maybe you are out of a job, so that can be stressful figuring out what to do.

d) add your own here ___________

How much you want to bet these paragons of environmental stewardship flew in on a private jet?

Doesn't matter. They earned their money the right way using their talent NOT the sweat off people's backs and not paying them.

Jaden has truly now become an Icon living ... and I'll bet his family is super proud. Not every child growing up to be a young adult needs to change the world to evoke love and pride from their family but this means he's after treating others with self dignity and pride. And you can only find HATE and criticism unlrelated to the effort for global change? Seriously?
You're really stuck in the old world and helping to keep anyone down, like a snake, so only you get a rise up the ladder.

Snakes & Ladders - time for a lawnmower!

Any reason that their message is not effective nor properly conveyed EITHER way? Their making a change that can & will positively affect millions - and what are YOU doing ... sitting on the web with your computer which I'm sure just added to the carbon footprint affecting lives you have no clue about and complaining!

For crying out loud ... people LOVE to point the finger just because without looking in the mirror. Me? I regularly do volunteering to help fund and feed those homeless in shelters as I once was myself 3x in 7yrs and finally got myself out of the rut. I've done my little help within my community and continue to do so - regardless of my income and no assets. I've looked in my mirror and doing something because I give a damn. And you're just spitting for the sake of ... wow.

Someone could make the argument that we don't "waste" energy, we "use" energy. Some important paragon of environmental stewardship could be the "rock star" personality that does something really big in the world - so it would be worthwhile to burn some jet fuel to transport a VIP. The Pope or the Dali Llama or whatever - those guys are VIP's that millions of people want to see - so it's certainly worthwhile IMHO

C’mon. Apple flies commercial on Delta, not private. They still have to do business all around the world and can’t take a month to take a ship from California to China (which probably burns more fuel per person too).

Oh yeah of course they are too important, it is just us peasants that have no super important business to do like apple and Hollywood stars that should cut down on consumption and not have children’s anymore. Pathetic.

This would have infinitely more credibility and infinitely less cringe if Cook invited an actual real expert or two in environmental issues and climate change to talk.

Instead we get a quasi-celebrity kid of celebrity parents who’s set up an “ethical” commercial enterprise in the form of flavoured water company.

That’s Cook’s Apple all over it seems. Obsessed with celebrity and desperate to be relevant.

The body strictly maintains blood pH through buffering. If anything we consumed could actually change blood pH, we would die. So much wrong here

Exactly, if your blood pH level is out of control you are seriously ill. So any cures for problems that don't exist. They finally figured out how children get Leukaemia: from super sterile houses by over eager parents believing marketing crap from companies that want to sell you more wet wipes says it all. Marketing BS is bad for your health and the environment.

'Oh facts and real info is not entertaining enough, let's invite someone who has a new movie to plug and does something that sounds cool with water'

They should have invited Jason Momoa, Alu cans are much more in line with Apples philosophy and Will Smith's career will be over after the Aladin disaster anyway.

Wow Tim I am REALLY glad you invite some REAL experts for this. Shows dedication and seriousness. Kudos!
Whilst I agree with what you said, Tim, (who is completely bogus usually), makes a valid point;
Everyone deserves access to quality water. Thanks for the leading the charge, @officialjaden, and for sharing your passion for the environment with us today at Apple Park. Your enthusiasm is contagious!
I think Joe public is far more likely to take notice of Will Smith that they would of Tim or a lot of scientists.

What Aladdin disaster?

You’re reaching.
No reaching at all. It's good to fly out and talk, but not imperative.

Piggybacking on your comment:

How is shipping water water ethical or sustainable for the environment? You're literally using energy to move something that is easily and freely available in every single building where this product is sold (I realize there is energy and cost associated with plumbing and water treatment). This is nothing but a scam backed by pseudo science. It's sad that Tim Cook is even entertaining this goof.

I'm being lazy but I suspect the crop waste they're using to make the bottles would have been better off burned/fermented at the site it was harvested from. Instead, lets spend more energy shipping it across the globe. I knew Jaden was stupid before but good god Tim Cook get this guy out of here!

Fact: Bioplastics Can not be recycled, and they take longer than conventional plastic to decompose so they can’t just let them rot in composting facilities.
Also ecologic footprint is worse than conventional plastics...

But tell that to a bunch of billionaires who fly around in their private jets, or a company who actively prevents and lies to its customers about products repairs.

A supplier you have to be nice to. Clever move. Not for „Uncle Tim“, though, now that he needs stars form his business, more than ever.

Bit afraid that one of them will run the Apple Stores soon.

(I welcome anything that will get us away from those plastic bottles and packaging, though, so, if the Smiths promote that...)

Just Water is a water company that sells ethically sourced spring water in paper-based bottles with sugarcane caps, all of which is more environmentally friendly than a standard plastic bottle. In addition to plain spring water, Just Water also offers infused flavors like lemon, tangerine, and apple cinnamon.
This makes me sad Mr. Smith Jr. Your idea maybe noble but you are going the wrong route. Water should be free. I know that's easier to say than to do - but we are really faceing big problems with companies like nestle that buy drinking-water-wells and sell this water back to the people living in the proximity. Water should be regulated by government. Water should be clean and of plenty supply for the citizens in every country worldwide. Unfortunately this is not the future we are heading to.
We are able to survive three Minutes without oxygen and three days without drinking water - then three weeks without food. Food is a problem for decades now. Water shortage is becoming the next big problem. Im glad that the time oxygen will become a trading good is beyond my lifespan.

Superficial PR BS

Here's a different but similar boxed water, endorsed by a celebrity holding it in her left hand, and a plastic coffee cup in her right hand

Honestly - can‘t they?
Apple has ironically amounts of money . They can even let them walk to china if it was possible landways.

You believers will always find an excuse for polluting Mother Earth only for business success.

Even apples packaging is a huge unnecessary amount of TRASH ...

Apple could traverse to the old Haberdashery style and give You the things in hand - at least a huge amount which is picked up in store.

They could even incentivize the store pick up and give you extra credit if You come with a bike

THere are huge amount of ideas in my head how to do BETTER!!!
