The iPad was really iffy for a while.

People were unsure what to make of it. The same types of threads

"What will friends think". Lots of them. No one knew WTF was going to happen.

Do you know if Nilay was the one to review other smart watches like the Moto 360?

No it seems like the only other thing I remember him reviewing was the pebble steel and he didn't whine nearly as much about the notifications when he did that review... must not have been high profile enough.

people are going to buy it because its popular not because its good. its not good at all. People just buy apple products because they are just apple products

This whole thread is incredible to me. The fact that people think this is going to flop I find truly hilarious. It will sell big, it won't sell as big as iPhone sales, but it will be way more than say the apple tv.

Exactly the only negative that people see in the watch right now is that they aren't sure if they need it or what all it does/should do. When they figure that out when dev get full access or on a gen 2 or something people will be probably be raving about it.

"If the Watch is slow, I’m going to pull out my phone. But if I keep pulling out my phone, I’ll never use the Watch." theverge

Pretty much sums it up right there. If the phone ranks a 10 and the watch is a 3 in terms of speed what the hell is the reason for choosing the slow option? I would figure that speed would have been the top priority at Apple.

If you think the Apple watch is miles ahead of the competition then you are either lying or have a serious disconnect with reality. Sorry just the truth.

And this much is unassailable: The Apple Watch is light-years better than any of the feeble, clunky efforts that have come before it. The screen is nicer, the software is refined and bug-free, the body is real jewelry. First-time technologies await at every turn: magnetic bands, push-to-release straps, wrist-to-wrist drawings or Morse codes, force pressing, credit card payments from the wrist. And the symbiosis with the iPhone is graceful, out of your way, and intelligent.

- David Pogue, Yahoo! Tech, "The Apple Watch: Half Computer, Half Jewelry, Mostly Magical"

So then, Pogue: lying or serious disconnect with reality?

(For the record: 1 light year ≈ 5.87849981 × 10^12 miles.)

Gotta be honest, I meant to type 'isn't' but I guess I misstyped. I do think it is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition.

I'm still going to buy the watch no matter what. Probably the space black link. BUT all the reviews are out. It's basically a flop...not a single review recommended this as a buy.

I repeat, not a single buy recommendation. Will Jony get demoted? It sounded like the rumours where true. The project was just born out of his own interest in the watch and it wasn't a compelling product idea.

Errr, has the watch been released then? No wonder its a flop if its not available to buy.

What a pointless thread.

Funny thing is, almost all the "Issues" I had with the iPad when it launched are still there and unchanged since the day it launched :(

Apple are so bloody minded on some points, and part of why I am worried it's going to take YEARS for the Watch to change, as apple are like a Hippo stuck in syrup now speed wise.

This is gen one. If sales are whatever, it's great. The true test is going from gen one to gen two. I wouldn't be surprised to see the edition quietly go away though.

Apple is all in on this though. It won't flop no matter what you think.

For The Verge to rate it a 7 is pretty bad. The lowest Apple review score prior is 7.7 for the iPod Nano.

Maybe the new underpowered $1300 (plus dongle price) Apple netbook with one port may get below a 7. If there is one product worse than the Apple watch it has to be that computer. It takes more than looks and materials to make a decent product Jony Ive.

Holy crap! They just gave that netbook a 8.4. So they must really hate the Apple watch.

Exactly. Apple are clearly throwing everything they've got at this - I almost think they simply won't allow it to flop.

The design of the WATCH is fine, so Jony Ive will be in the clear.

The software, however, is another beast, and will be tested throughly in the wild over the coming year.

Can anyone imagine what the UI would be if Scott Forstall still remained as head of iOS Software Development, and possibly WatchOS?

Stupidest question ever!
Jony..... demoted???????
Hahahahahahahahahahaha......

You know he's a rockstar, right?
You know he's worked there for over a decade, right?
You know that, even when Steve was alive, Jony was still the 2nd most valuable employee at Apple, right?
You know that he's widely regarded as one of the finest industrial designers of our era, right?
You know that, if the Watch is not as successful as they had hoped... it would be either due to pricing or weak use case, NOT whether Jony designed it to be "pretty" enough, right?

smh

99.99% of the opinions here are worth even less than the reviews. But it's still fun to read some of the children's idiocy. The gulf between thought and understanding widens each and every generation.
