I'm still going to buy the watch no matter what. Probably the space black link. BUT all the reviews are out. It's basically a flop...not a single review recommended this as a buy.

I repeat, not a single buy recommendation. Will Jony get demoted? It sounded like the rumours where true. The project was just born out of his own interest in the watch and it wasn't a compelling product idea.

Do you realize he's the president of design right?

Seriously, read the articles. You can nit pick all you want, but it's night and day compared to the iPhone reviews. And you know it.

And you can deny it all you want, but your white-washing exaggerations are not helping bolster your case. There's simply no need to resort to such hyperbole to make your point.

Not really, go read the green thumbs article. It does not recommend you to buy one. Read the David Pogue. It says it right there, "you don't need it" and no one ever said they would buy it themselves.

Did you read the articles? they aren't even really saying that you don't need an :apple: watch.. they are saying you don't need a smartwatch period. Why should anyone care what a reviewers take on my smartwatch needs are? I know I will enjoy it so I will get one and many other people will do the same.

For The Verge to rate it a 7 is pretty bad. The lowest Apple review score prior is 7.7 for the iPod Nano.

Coz I'm an Apple fan. And I don't represent the general public.

What I AM saying is that, these reviewers are reviewing the watch from the perspective of the GENERAL public. Not geeks/apple fans.

From that perspective, we have received ZERO buy recommendations.

Contrast this to the iPhone. Every, single, reviewer, told you to run out and buy it now.

and this is the fatal FLAW in your reasoning.

it is IMPOSSIBLE for these reviewers to give reviews from the perspective of the general public, for the general public has not used the watch! The general public has no opinion of the watch of their own!

These reviews, like every single review ever created for an item that has not been released yet, are telling their viewers what they SHOULD do or not do. Then, its up to the general public whether they want to adopt the opinions of these reviews as their own, and the best way to do so is to drop that cash. THAT is what will determine whether it will be a "flop" or not.

btw, CNET gave the very first iPhone a 7.6 review score, and the first iPad a 8.0, neither one was an absolute buy. Neither did Engadget or Tech Radar tell people they were absolute buys. Neither did pcmag or gizmodo (when it was still relevant, at that time) as well.

Honestly I like the verge a lot, but this review was terrible. I don't think it is the apple watch with the issue in this case it seems like a jaded review of a product he doesn't see a need for.

Happy to help! (And, of course, "That's worth paying" is in fact a "buy recommendation.")

Do you know if Nilay was the one to review other smart watches like the Moto 360?

It doesn't drive sales, it's a reflection of it actually feels to use one. No one wants it. Did you even read all the reviews?

people are going to buy it because its popular not because its good. its not good at all. People just buy apple products because they are just apple products

What a load of crap.

It's people like you who trolls the forum, not me. I'm here to openly debate the problem. You are unwilling to hear other's opinion. Unwilling to accept a bad Apple product.

Yup. Let's demote an executive that created beautiful, functional products for the past 15 years because of a Verge review (2 weeks before launch).

There's no way you can call it a flop before release. And it's a release of a version 1 product. People like you called the Apple Stores a flop, the iPhone, the iPad, the Macbook Air,...enjoy being wrong in a year or two when sales disagree with you.

The general public aren't reading Apple Watch reviews right now. Not the way Apple geeks (and Apple hating geeks) are reading Apple Watch reviews right now.

Know what WILL sell the watch? People seeing other people wearing it.

That one Verge review, he complains that he is getting too many notifications while he is trying to have a conversation. But he is dishonest about how easy it is to control those settings.

He complains that he even got a text from his wife. If you don't want a text from your wife (a family emergency?) then you should turn off all notifications which is retard-easy to do. Yet he whines about it.

He says there's no granular control (oh he knows the fancy terms) but they immediately cut to a shot of settings that shows all of the granular controls.

I didn't get that either. He went through the trouble of even doing a whole role play scene for it. The thing is most of us who find smart watches useful already appreciate notifications. If he's the type that hates being informed of notifications and rather ignore them then the watch is obviously not for him. For those who know why they're getting the product, how can you fault being notified? If it weren't for the apple watch and I were in that situation, I'd be pulling out my phone with every text message which would be even more annoying than glancing at the watch.

Ok, so how is calling the watch a flop before it even goes on sale, openly debating the problem?

By calling it a flop, he is simply [correctly] predicting that it will flop when the sales start. I thought it was obvious. Of course, Apple sold exactly 0 units so far.

That tends to happen when it's not on sale for at least another 15 days.

On that basis I'm going to pick a movie that comes out in July and declare a flop as it's not out yet.
