...I was really put off by that so-called fashion discussion in The Verge review. For starters, I was surprised that most of those presumably educated professional adults seemed incapable of expressing a clear thought without prefacing a sentence with "like". That entire segment was a sloppy mess and I'll stop now before my snarky side comes out.

Yeah, but presentation aside, I thought the fashionista's judgement was rather brutal. They just weren't interested in the watch.

But then again, fashion isn't rational, is it? If it was, it wouldn't change its mind every season! :)

None of the reviews come anywhere close to raving about this product and its daily usefulness. Keep in mind the 600 pound marketing guerilla that Apple is and, other than you and me, these journalists do stand to lose something in their good relations with Apple (they don't take lightly to journalists/companies not bending to their will, remember Gizmodo, anyone...?) All those who got the watch were carefully curated by Apple. Even John Gruber's review was, while friendly, somewhat reserved.

Might still sell, but if it doesn't convince people to keep using it beyond the initial sensation, it's going to be hard to call it a success.

I'm still going to buy the watch no matter what. Probably the space black link. BUT all the reviews are out. It's basically a flop...not a single review recommended this as a buy.

I repeat, not a single buy recommendation. Will Jony get demoted? It sounded like the rumours where true. The project was just born out of his own interest in the watch and it wasn't a compelling product idea.

OP - We all know Apple will continue to tweak the performance. But Jony Ive demoted- rrrrriiiiigggghhhtttt because Jony designed the software and chipset....

What rumors are your referring to?

I'm not sure how people decided some of those reviews are thumbs down. I watched the Joanna Stern one and enjoyed it. It gave me no reason to avoid the watch. Not sure if any review has changed any minds here. Those of us who already wanted it see no reason to avoid it. The haters still hate.

Even the sport is not for anyone who has to think about whether they can afford $350. I am lucky I can afford the one I want.

Can't say it's a flop at this stage . Ive is a brilliant designer, that does not mean he can design anything.

These are hand picked reviewers by apple, and it's in thier interest to keep apple sweet, so given how they are no praising the product as awesome, reviews that follow will most likely be are lot more brutal. People have seen the same sites review previous Apple products and are comparing the reaction.

Yes and no. Apple can't just cherry pick reviewers. They've been sending items to Joanna Stern and the WSJ for a long time and if they suddenly stopped it would look suspicious. If they just wanted glowing reviews they'd send them to AppleInsider. As much as they'd prefer more positive reviews 2 days before the launch, they need credible reviews. Plus, real reviews give them some insight into what changes to make. We all know that a major software update is coming later this year to enable native Watch apps. I'm sure there will be tweaks, and credible reviews help them identify what tweaks are important to people.

No review site is going to pull a gizmodo and upset apple. Apple cannot cherry pick reviewers but they can cherry pick the websites. And these articles do not get published unless signed off. The sites have the relationship with apple. Its a fine line they tread, and these reviewers would have been instructed to be as diplomatic as possible without damaging thier own credibility And that of the site. Wait to the next wave of reviews and compare them

He should've been demoted for churning out the ugly arse ios7. this iwatch won't flop like no one will buy it - the sheep will still line up but it will be like appleTV gen 1. Not a mass adoption product.

There's absolutely still ZERO COMPELLING REASON to buy this thing. other than the fact it's another remote control for your iPhone and more expensive than the contract price of your iPhone. The watch doesn't do anything more than what your iPhone can and what's the point of marketing it as a luxury watch when in fact it's basically another mini iphone with 1/20th of what the iPhone can do.

Gizmodo upset Apple by purchasing a stolen iPhone 4 prior to its release and refusing to return it. You are right, no credible review site would do that. But Apple isn't going to refuse to send the Wall Street Journal the iPhone 6S because they didn't like Joanna Stern's review of it.

The next wave of reviews should include watch sites like ABlogToWatch and Hodinkee. I'm curious as to what they say.

Not a single buy recommendation, you think it will be a flop, and yet you are still buying one no matter what.

I'm still going to buy the watch no matter what.

I stopped reading. If everyone else buys one 'no matter what', why on Earth would Ive be demoted?

And, more to the point, why on Earth would you buy one no matter what?

Coz I'm an Apple fan. And I don't represent the general public.

What I AM saying is that, these reviewers are reviewing the watch from the perspective of the GENERAL public. Not geeks/apple fans.

From that perspective, we have received ZERO buy recommendations.

Contrast this to the iPhone. Every, single, reviewer, told you to run out and buy it now.

Coz I'm an Apple fan.

Apologies - again, I read no further.

I hope you see the irony in your statements. You say the watch is a flop but will buy one anyway because you're an Apple fan.

You're an Apple fan because of the work Ive has done over the last decade. Why would he be demoted??

Furthermore, why would an Apple fan buy a product they think is a flop? Apple's only real feedback is sales figures. If sales of the watch are strong, Apple will believe what they're doing is what is wanted.

It is pretty insulting to be called a sheep because I like a product and am buying it because it does what I want it to do. Of course no one NEEDS it. No one NEEDS half of the stuff they buy. Buy it if you will enjoy owning it.

None of these reviewers buy ANYTHING they review with their own money.

BTW: I hate their pc's. Love iPhone iPad and expect to like watch.

Read that article haha. He's eating his words now! :)

That did make for a good read!

"There is no reason to have an 8GB iPod on the phone. Give us a 2GB capacity"

Although, it's made me assume I'm wrong about the watch. I think it'll sell well and then slowly die right back, but maybe I'll be eating my words in a couple of years when half the world is wearing smart watches.

10 out of 16 are a green thumbs-up. How is that ZERO buy recommendations?

Not really: The iPhone: Apple's First Flop

Not really, go read the green thumbs article. It does not recommend you to buy one. Read the David Pogue. It says it right there, "you don't need it" and no one ever said they would buy it themselves.

Seriously, read the articles. You can nit pick all you want, but it's night and day compared to the iPhone reviews. And you know it.

Music to my ears! For the love of all that is good, everyone remember this Friday morning at 3:01 am EST and STAY OFFLINE! Don't go to the Apple Store, it is a flop! Especially. The 42 mm SS black leather loop and 38 mm white Sport. They are the worst of the flops. You don't want them. It's late, stay in bed, avoid the flop house at all costs! (At least until 3:30 am EST, then you can do whatever blows your skirt up) ;)
