Will the iPad Air-3 Have Pencil Support and 3D Touch ?

With Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac saying in his last article yesterday that Apple is also reportedly testing the iPad Air 3 panels for Pencil Support how many of you guys think that Apple will bring in Pencil Support for the iPad Air 3 ? And how much is the possibility of a 3D touch (iPhone 6s and 6s Plus like feature) being implemented in the Air-3 ? If you guys don't think the Air-3 will have the pencil support and 3D touch why do you think so ? Thoughts ?
 
If the speculations for the Air 3 (4K dislplay, 4GB of RAM, Apple Pencil, and 3D Touch) are true, me and my iPad Pro will taking a trip back to the Apple Store. I highly doubt those features will be implemented in the Air 3 though. Butttt, there's always a chance.

You are almost saying entirely opposite infact people have rejected any possibility of a 4K screen and pencil support and 3D touch. Atleast 4K screen everyone is sure will not see the light of day, people are still bullish about pencil support and 3D touch but you can never say after all it is Apple !

Yeah but now even reliable sources from tech sites are acknowledging rumors about pencil support in Air-3, so is worth talking now !!

Maybe I'm misreading what you said, but it seems like you contradicted yourself between the response my quote and the quote below mine. Although it's highly unlikely, everyone can't be sure that certain features will or will not be implemented in this unreleased product. Just because the consumers reject the idea doesn't mean that Apple has. For example, everyone thought Apple would never make phablets or use a stylus. Most, if not all consumers, rejected those ideas before they came to fruition.
 
I used to think the iPad Air 3 will definitely not have Pencil support.

But after the last financial results showing once again how the iPad sales are going down, I believe Apple will throw everything on the Air 3 just to make it more attractive for potential buyers.

Unfortunately the problem with the iPad is the software, not the hardware.
 
If it has Pencil support, it will be a tough call for me. I think I'm pretty sold on the size of the iPad Pro's screen, but we'll see. I'm outside the return window so I'd have to sell it and take a small hit. Love the screen size of the Pro, but the Air does win for raw portability. Pro definitely feels like a laptop in terms of footprint, whereas the Air really can go and be used anywhere.
 
Interesting question to be asked here is how much use an average person is going to do of the pencil, 3D touch I can imagine can have some utility, but pencil is for serious artists, painters, sketchers. How much everyone here dearly hope and desire for 3D touch on their iPad ? How much handy can be a 3D touch be on an iPad? 3D touch when on an iPhone has a different utility and when you keep in mind the iPad it is a different ball game altogether !!

Depends if apple allow you to use it as a stylus or just a note taking pencil. The 9.3 suggests note only but hopefully it for all usage.

That's a valid point, so most people don't look at the iPad Air series to draw anything, they can very well opt to go for the iPad Pro. So perhaps the Air may not have a pencil support !
 
I dont see what the fascination is with 3d touch. I would much rather have apple pencil support. I think the technology the pencil uses under the screen prevents it from having both.

I can't believe people actually think there is even a slight chance of 4K.

You do realise that even the iPad Pro with a 12-core A9X would have trouble running 4K? And the battery drain would be insane. And the improvement would be almost insignificant.

Well if the rumour is true and Apple is testing the iPad Air 3 panels for Pencil Support then I would say no for pencil support. Because if they are still testing the Air 3 for pencil support there is no way that it would be ready for the March release. Because first they would have to perfect the display and software. Then once that's done they would have to produce how many million display screens and put them in the Air 3 and have it all ready for the March release. If they are still in the testing phase there is no way that is happening. Unless the rumour is wrong and they have already perfected and produced enough displays for the release. I don't think there is a chance it will have 4K. I don't think it will have pencil support either. It might have 3D Touch but kinda doubt it.

That's that the latest rumor has. Doesn't mean it will happen but articles are all we go off at this point
 
I am surprised at the public mandate here, IMHO pencil is more handy and useful than 3D touch if you keep the iPad Air in mind. 3D touch might be a handy thing to have on an iPhone where's the screen is relatively small. Pencil support can perhaps be a thoughtful idea to have on the Air as well, because having said everything the Air screen is still reasonably big enough just in case if some one wants to sketch or draw anything on it.
 
They necessarily don't need to add actual 3D Touch to iPad Air 3 or even the Pro. I think since the Apple Pencil has pressure sensitivity, allow Peek and Pop functionality via the Pencil IMO. If the device supports the Pencil it's just software than could add it. Sure that would cut out anyone who doesn't have the Pencil from the feature but would also bring more value to a $99 Pencil and more would maybe be inclined to pay up for one. Two birds at once, Pencil support + 3D Touch.

Because who knows if the same 3D Touch tech can even be done on an iPad panel due to the sheer size and the fact iPad screens are a much different construction to iPhone screens with all that laminated tech they use on the iPad screens.

For me it would be amazing to get an iPad Air with Pencil support, my main use for the iPad is consuming media, playing games and as a student for note taking and highliting PDF files so even though I just love my Pro I think the lightness and portability of the Air would make me lean towards selling the pro.
From the perspective of Apple I would find it hard to believe that they will include pencil support on the 3, I think the Pencil is one of the main selling factors of the Pro and if they do that I think iPad Pro would just become an iPad Plus.

About 3D Touch, something special happens to me about that feature, I rarely use it on my iPhone 6s and even when I do use it I feel like I am just forcing myself to give some utility to the feature. What´s strange is that sometimes I try to use 3D touch on my iPad Pro haha. So if they include it great but if it adds some wheight I think it would be better for Apple to skip that feature

Yes even I feel so, if there's any new feature that's gonna add weight to the Air I think it will take away the selling point from it. They are talking about including 4 speakers like the iPad Pro in the Air, my biggest worry there is will it add that extra weight to the Air and make it slight heavy ? if it is at the cost of adding weight, that these speakers get added to the Air I think it will be pointless.
 
For me:

1. Don't use 3D touch - its a gimmick

2. Don't need apple pencil - absolutely like an apple watch, I don't need it.

I didn't need to comment on this post but there are people like me who give 0 to apple pencil and 3D touch

Putting the speakers in would likely reduce weight, since you'd basically be removing battery, which is a big chunk of the weight, and possibly replacing it with the reverb chambers, which are mostly empty space.

As for pencil vs. 3D touch, I'd find Pencil support much more useful. Being able to do hand written notes and document markup with the Pencil would be very useful for my job, whereas 3D touch seems like it would have a lot of issues on a screen that big, especially if trying to use while the iPad is propped up with a keyboard.

My guess/hope: same screen resolution, A9 proc, speakers from the Pro, and Pencil support.
 
The pencil is still in high demand. If the iPad 3 gains pencil support demand will skyrocket and customers will be mad like they were in the fall. Apple doesn't need this type of release again.
Probably next year for the pencil and iPad 4.
 
I can't believe the Pencil is still hard to find over two months after it was released. I don't get it.
