Maybe we are all just coming to terms with the reality that Apple products are meeting their zenith. What more can you do really? Even MKBHD concluded the iPhone 15 Pro is really just an improved iPhone 14. My conspiracy theory here is Apple likely wants us to slow our roll a bit on upgrades. Key areas Apple can probably invest more in is AI/AR, content (Apple TV+), making the overall software experience even better in whatever they can. I just don't know what else that could be.

I’m shocked the iCup hasn’t leaked yet! With a Retina insulation keeping your drink cold/hot and displaying your drink on the outer screen, sip intensity, MagSafe coasters, even an optional faceID lid that will only open for you to prevent drugs & bugs from getting in your drink! But maybe that isn’t major enough for an entire event I get it

They just have to be new MacBook Airs coming in October or November.

The only reason I can think there might not be, is, if the 3 nm production is just going really really really really bad. Like maybe Apple was forced to wait for 3ne. Still seems like a rather big failure though.
Making something that never existed before at scale is hard & takes time, it’s not a “failure though”… 😉 You try making anything that’s 3nm in size, let me know when you’ve cut some paper that thin… ✂️

I‘m thinking any new product receiving an M3 chip would require more than a press release.
Yeah I can't believe they wouldn't want to hold an event to tout the M3. But if the M3 is the only significant change to a MacBook or iMac then, I think they actually might hold off until they have more products to justify an event.

I guess that depends on what Apple’s internal roadmap is/was. If their goal is to release a new MacBook Air every 12-18 months and it takes them 24 months, they would probably consider that a failure themselves.

Apple really doesn't have anything left to redesign, at least for awhile. It's pretty much going to be chip refreshes from here until the current designs are due for a redesign. Dropping in an M3 chip can be done with a press release.

It would be nice to see some kind of update to the iMac, especially a new large model.

It is typical for Apple to hold up to four events per year: one in the spring, WWDC in June, the fall iPhone event, and a fourth fall event that's Mac and/or iPad focused. Unfortunately, there are few additional product announcements planned for the final months of 2023, and it's looking like there won't be another fall event this year.

Earlier this month, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman told The MacRumors Show hosts that he does not expect Apple to hold an October event because the company does not have enough new products and features to justify it. Major new iPad and Mac launches are not expected until 2024, suggesting it will be a slow holiday season for Apple outside of the iPhone and Apple Watch.

During Apple's August earnings call, CFO Luca Maestri said that Mac and iPad revenue is expected to drop double digits. Last October, Apple introduced the M2 iPad Pro models and a 10th-generation iPad, plus it was still seeing sales of the redesigned MacBook Air during the holidays.

Apple's warning about the iPad and Mac revenue drop suggests that it does not expect to have products to entice customers during the holiday quarter, and that is in line with rumors.

There is a possibility that we will see at least one iPad unveiled in October, perhaps an iPad mini, an iPad Air, or an 11th-generation low-cost iPad, but these will be minor refreshes. iPad Pro models with OLED displays and M3 chips won't be coming until 2024.

We could also see at least one Mac with a new M3 chip, and this could be a MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, a Mac mini, or a 24-inch iMac. Gurman said that if these products do come out in 2023, Apple is likely to unveil them via press release rather than with an event.

While Gurman believes M3 Macs could come out in 2023, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said recently that Apple will not launch new MacBook models with M3 processors before the end of the year, which may narrow down any M3 Mac releases to desktop models.

Apple did not hold an October event last year, but there were October events in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2021.

Bad year for Apple their releases have all just been little bumps in the high tech highway. Vision Pro sounds interesting but not released and expensive for current economy and typical Apple customer. iPhone as small of a improvement over the past few versions it will generate some sales. The 3nm in the iPhone Pro is getting off to a rocky start so it's not going to automaticly draw in customers. I'd saw Apple has already written this years off and is trying to figure out what they can do in early 2024 to get people into a buy mood.

I'm curious for everyone who wants a M3.

Why?

What will it be used for, and what do you expect from it? I feel with the M1 that we entered "peak computing", where no amount of speed improvements will improve MOST people's computer use (excluding games and video editing).

Also doubting iPad Mini 7 because we should be swimming in rumors about it right now. There's been ONE and it's end of September. As a huge iPad mini fan/user, I'd very much love to see a new 7 next month... but I suspect that is also out in 2024, solely on the lack of at least a few good rumors this late in SEP.

Between an M3 iMac or an iPad Mini 7, I think the latter has the best chance to show... just doubt it. But if there IS an M2 iMac update, then perhaps the same press release could surprise with a Mini 7 and that rumored Air update too. And that would seem to be about it for 2023.

If it's just a spec bump there might not be a lot of rumors - could be accomplished on the manufacturing side with little fanfare really. Though I would like some fresh colors as well.

I have to think after a few years of jelly-aching by even rabid fans, an iPad Mini 7 will have a new screen... not necessarily the pro motion one some call for but one that is jelly free or closer to it. The jam screen? The smooth preserves screen? ;)

No rumors of such a screen this close to October probably means no iPad Mini 7 in 2023. I'd love to be guessing wrong here. I sure enjoy my iPad Mini 6 EVERY DAY. Bring 7 on if it is ready. But where's the rumors???

Longevity. Buying a Mac now that is 18 months old means you will stop receiving software support some 18 months sooner for the same price as a new device.

I can also see ray tracing being a thing if it starts getting used for basic graphics (I don’t play games so don’t care about that).

Personally, the main thing I want is a Mac Studio with Pro Motion. Not sure that will hit with M3 though.

I think there should be one, Antenna-gate style, for Apple to explain why it has released new phones with thermal issues and dodgy FineWoven cases and what it’ll be doing to rectify it.

Some free bumpers to protect your hand from the heat perhaps?

My guess is October press release iMac with M2, not M3.

...

Also, I don’t see an October M3 iMac because it would create buyer psychology that all other Macs are now a generation behind and all aware buyers should wait for the impending M3 versions. Apple likes easy holiday money too much to put that segment of purchases in jeopardy for the holidays. Make iMac go M2 and "the entire lineup is as up to date as possible- buy now for the holidays and enjoy our latest technology across the board!"

If M3 iMac is the only option, I suspect it is held for a 2024 launch (with several other Macs also on M3)... even if it is ready to ship now.
Your argument makes a good deal of sense, but it begs a question. If iMac refresh is M2, why has it been so delayed?

October 2023 does feel a bit early for M3 though. But if one Mac is getting an M3, I bet it's iMac. Otherwise, my prediction is March 2024 at the earliest, July 2024 at the latest.

If I was forced to make a bet, I would bet on NO October event this year.

Why this long? Maybe it’s the least profitable Mac? Maybe Apple cares about it the least? Maybe Apple anticipated a jump to M3 for several Macs this Fall and this was one of them but the others just aren’t ready, so M2 becomes the fallback option? Maybe some part of iMac was in short supply, delaying the refresh? Lots of possibilities.

As someone with both an intel 2020 iMac 5k and a 2020 MacBook Pro 13", I feel like I am due for an update into Apple Silicon. But I also feel that I need to wait it out...

The Apple Studio Display has some issues, most notably the webcam but also that it is not much of an upgrade over the iMac's display. Mac Studio also has some issues it seems (less major than ASD but still you can find reports of things such as coil/fan whine, etc.)

No iMac Pro 27" (or 32" etc.) in sight, but rumors have circulated and one would think this will come out sooner than later.

The MacBook Pro M2 appears to be solid, but I can't help but think that the OLED rumors could well be true and this coincides with the dynamic island rumors - not to mention FaceID as well...All of these would be a game changer IMO, and I would hate to miss out by jumping the gun too early.

iPad Pro is in a similar situation with the OLED rumors.

So here I am....waiting....

I can say not possible.

If not, how come Apple Vision Pro which will release in early 2024 has M2 instead of M3? This already means M3 won't gonna release till early 2024.

Isn’t that what people want? Apple dominate a saturated market, even though they ALWAYS have the most popular phone and tablet and watch. But when they don’t come up with multiple revolutionary products every year, they say they boring or going through the motions. I find these people rather predictable and boring tbh.
Do you know what's predictable? Apple. Even their rumours are. Watching their lastest keynotes has become a sleep pill. Vision Pro was the only fresh air they've had in the recent years, but if you put that aside they just play the safe game, they don't "wow" anymore. Is this what you want? A new phone with nothing really new, which you will be forced to upgrade to just because the anual OS release cadence (which only bring new widgets and UI gimmicks)? Good for you then, but Apple was once the most innovative company and is actually the wealthiest one, so people expects something above the average from them.

They were fixed. Mine works just fine with about the same quality as when I use my iPhone.

Nice, that’s great to know! Do you use ASD with a Studio or a Mini? I like the form factor of the mini better since I have an L-shaped desk and it would fit beautifully under the overlap, but it seems power-wise the Studio is better for my needs.
