Isn’t that what people want? Apple dominate a saturated market, even though they ALWAYS have the most popular phone and tablet and watch. But when they don’t come up with multiple revolutionary products every year, they say they boring or going through the motions. I find these people rather predictable and boring tbh.

BlackBerry always had the most popular phone for a long time too. Then someone came out with something better. I'm not saying it will happen to Apple...but it could.

Maybe we are all just coming to terms with the reality that Apple products are meeting their zenith. What more can you do really? Even MKBHD concluded the iPhone 15 Pro is really just an improved iPhone 14. My conspiracy theory here is Apple likely wants us to slow our roll a bit on upgrades. Key areas Apple can probably invest more in is AI/AR, content (Apple TV+), making the overall software experience even better in whatever they can. I just don't know what else that could be.

Foldable phones are going to be the way.

Fair point. I ask myself this. Updates now seem more like finessing things and adding largely pointless abilities while the hardware form and function is moderately tweaked.

I upgraded to a 14 from an 8+ (got a great deal) a month before the 15 was released. I really like the 14 and I don’t feel like I missed out on anything.

I have a difficult time believing Apple will unveil the M3 in any product before the Apple Vision Pro launches in Q1 2024. It would give a bad look to such an expensive product, since it has the M2.

I’m thinking the M3 products will be released at WWDC 2024.

Apple is basically on the Intel Tick/Tock cycle now. M1 -> M1 Pro -> M1 Ultra -> M2 -> M2 Pro -> M2 Ultra -> M3

The first of each generation is the lowest end as they figure out the updated design and process node. Then they just crank up the power and number of functional components. Then they do it again.

So I don't think there's anything wrong with an M3 MacBook Air alongside an M2 Vision Pro with its special R1 chipset and face hugger displays and all that. By the time they're ready for the next revision it'll have an M3 Pro Bionic Vision Ultra or something.

The long delayed iMac update is simply pathetic on their part and there’s no justification for why it wasn’t on m2 a year ago… but if they release it with m3 now it will hurt sales of anything else as m2 will feel dated … and the vision pro certainly should have always been promised with the more efficient m3. It’s the perfect device to debut it in

Frankly I’m not sure there’s enough of a market for a small yet powerful m3 iMac.

Certainly if it was available with a 27” or 32” display. Not so sure at 21 24”

I think the current iMac quietly goes to M2 this October. The larger 27/32” iMac then arrives in late 2024 with an M3 chip.

The rest was just more of the same (bigger MBA, better CPU Apple Watch, and the iPhone 12 Pro with USB C).
and while I agree these aren’t the most fascinating updates, they have been the most requested, at least on these forums.
People have been asking for a 15 inch MacBook Air since at least 2010.
People have complained every time the Apple Watch processor doesn’t get changed, so they changed it.
And, of course, a USB-C port on an iPhone has been the most requested feature since the 2015 MacBook was introduced.
For actual practicality, I feel like this has been one of the more impressive years of late from Apple.
Also, outside of the Vision Pro 2024 looks like more of the same

I caved and bought a studio this year so I don’t even care about the large iMac anymore. I think it’s a pipe dream to think the iMac is gonna come with beautiful new display tech at large sizes and be remotely affordable. Gone are the days of loading up a 27” 5k iMac for under 3 grand. The current iMac is 24” which is fine for the demographic it targets. Just not a pro machine

consumer laptops + iPads + possibly iMac 24 -Oct 2023
If we were getting all of those products in October 2023, we would have known about it by now.
Apple has to do publicly facingthings in advance of releasing products, like get them registered in databases for different countries.
And as far as I know, so far there has not been a large amount of new max and iPads added to the database in quite a while.

Can we just get a press release instead? That iPhone and Apple Watch event should have been a PR

Yes, my mistake 24"
Agreed, the days of 'cheap' Macs are over.
Apple is after higher margins which they'll get by selling a Mac Studio/Studio Display instead of building an AIO 27" iMac.

Longevity. Buying a Mac now that is 18 months old means you will stop receiving software support some 18 months sooner for the same price as a new device.

I can also see ray tracing being a thing if it starts getting used for basic graphics (I don’t play games so don’t care about that).

Personally, the main thing I want is a Mac Studio with Pro Motion. Not sure that will hit with M3 though.

You can do your own Pro Motion type setup. I have a 240Hz monitor connected to my Mac Studio.

The Apple Studio Display has some issues, most notably the webcam

This is why I despise built-in hardware. I’d rather connect my 4K webcam than deal with built in ones. And as a security measure, I can unplug it instead of taping it up.

That's the thing. Blackberry had a good product and Apple came out with a better one.

Today, Apple's main advantage is its ecosystem. It's no longer enough to come out with a smartphone or a laptop that's marginally better than the iPhone. Who's the company who is going to come out with a more cohesive ecosystem than Apple? Not saying it's impossible, but it sure seems like a nigh-insurmountable feat right now, and the odds grow ever slimmer with each passing day.

really only companies in any position to be able to are Microsoft, Google, and maybe Samsung.

No. Reason: the M3-based iPad Pros with the OLED panels won't arrive until next spring. We'll see press releases on updated non-Pro iPads and an updated iMac.
