My ideal October event:
A belated birthday present to Siri of bumped up new functionality, (not ChatGPT) but a impressive increase to put to rest rumors of Siri’s, incompetence, and show how great she will be as used with Vision Pro next year (not that I can afford to buy one) and how great she can be used in a newly released iPad mini, and a new iPad Air. Hey, a girl can dream!

Pretty boring year from Apple, the only interesting product was the Vision Pro and that was just a presentation a year and a half before it's released. The rest was just more of the same (bigger MBA, better CPU Apple Watch, and the iPhone 12 Pro with USB C).
yeah, the Vision Pro, 15PM and MBA 15” were the only items I was really interested in this year.

but there are also millions of people who have devices that are 2-4+ years old where these upgrades to them are game changers.

There will be a huge October event to unveil the next Pencil, AirPods Max, and Apple TV and possibly new console games coming to 15 Pro Max (E.g. upcoming GTA)
Well, new Apple TV supporting ray tracing might be worth the attention…? Would be nice to see gaming on Apple TV be a serious option. Needs k&m support and great controller support IMHO.

Do you know what's predictable? Apple. Even their rumours are. Watching their lastest keynotes has become a sleep pill. Vision Pro was the only fresh air they've had in the recent years, but if you put that aside they just play the safe game, they don't "wow" anymore. Is this what you want? A new phone with nothing really new, which you will be forced to upgrade to just because the anual OS release cadence (which only bring new widgets and UI gimmicks)? Good for you then, but Apple was once the most innovative company and is actually the wealthiest one, so people expects something above the average from them.
You are right that Apple haven’t given people everything they crave for. But if anyone's life needs enriching by some amazing announcement from a tech company, then they have serious issues.

But then again you are also so so wrong. How many consumer phone companies have emergency satellite with their phone? How many have fall detection, or crash detection? How many other consumer companies have a FaceTime equivalent on their TV? (I can only think of Facebook). How many integrate health apps with their phone, watch and tablet like Apple?

They push the boundaries with ARM chips (in a truly revolutionary way) and everyone follows them… if they can. They integrated mobile devices into vehicles first, they continue to add features like no one else does or actually can. They will no doubt be the first to add Blood Glucose Monitoring into a truly small device and they probably have many other features and devices in the pipeline.

You may expect better from Apple, and I can categorically say that you are getting it. If you think Vision Pro is the only thing they have come up recently, then you have not been paying attention or are just blinded from actual useful features. They can only improve many of their devices and just occasionally they bring in a new one. So what?

Maybe we are all just coming to terms with the reality that Apple products are meeting their zenith. What more can you do really? Even MKBHD concluded the iPhone 15 Pro is really just an improved iPhone 14. My conspiracy theory here is Apple likely wants us to slow our roll a bit on upgrades. Key areas Apple can probably invest more in is AI/AR, content (Apple TV+), making the overall software experience even better in whatever they can. I just don't know what else that could be.
I’m sure they have updates in hardware coming, and some of them will be unique to Apple (like Blood glucose monitoring), but totally agree with your points. I can’t overstate how well Health App works on the iPad, and I love continuity camera for FaceTime/Apple TV.

We will know for sure they have reached their zenith when an upgrade to iPadOS Includes a calculator app.

Fingers crossed for M2 8GB RAM iPad Mini 7. Either next month or in Spring of next year. That would make it a sweet little gaming device.

We could also see at least one Mac with a new M3 chip, and this could be a MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, a Mac mini, or a 24-inch iMac. Gurman said that if these products do come out in 2023, Apple is likely to unveil them via press release rather than with an event.

While Gurman believes M3 Macs could come out in 2023, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said recently that Apple will not launch new MacBook models with M3 processors before the end of the year, which may narrow down any M3 Mac releases to desktop models.

So read through all that and still sounds possible that iMac will be updated soon. Too much conflation of “no event” and “no product refreshes” when they don’t mean the same thing.

Could see Apple reusing the short video method they used fairly recently for introducing product updates (M2 MacBook Air 13”?). That video felt like it was a segment made in the same way as the modern event productions, only shorter (perhaps even made with intention to be included, then cut for timing).

I'm curious for everyone who wants a M3.

Why?

What will it be used for, and what do you expect from it? I feel with the M1 that we entered "peak computing", where no amount of speed improvements will improve MOST people's computer use (excluding games and video editing).

I‘m thinking any new product receiving an M3 chip would require more than a press release.
Yes...that would make sense, but you never know.

M2 iMac would sound like a "logical" choice. Then all of the current Mac line-up is on M2 going into the Holiday season.

If they want to get sales generating for the Holiday season, then it seems "logical" to have an event introducing M3 iMacs, M3 13" MacBook Pro, and 13" MacBook airs.

I predict M3's for Spring or June (WWDC event) as the Vision Pro comes out with a M3 (upgraded that may get some attention at launch). Hey...throw in a M3 Max for Mac Pro while your at it for WWDC.
Sounds like a 2024 "logical" offerings...

No press release if that; this year updates have been quite upsetting

I have a difficult time believing Apple will unveil the M3 in any product before the Apple Vision Pro launches in Q1 2024. It would give a bad look to such an expensive product, since it has the M2.

I’m thinking the M3 products will be released at WWDC 2024.

I can say not possible.

If not, how come Apple Vision Pro which will release in early 2024 has M2 instead of M3? This already means M3 won't gonna release till early 2024.
I think it's fairly likely that the Vision Pro will launch with M3. Apple wouldn't want to launch it's prestige new expensive product which probably isn't going to be updated yearly and then immediately undercut it by dropping M3 within weeks.

I’m looking at the entry level iPad and wondering why they wouldn’t refresh it. 9th gen is getting long in tooth and 10th gen has all the new features. 10th gen is running same chip as iPhone 12. Seems like they should move that up one year. 🤷🏼‍♂️

That's the thing. Apple may not be giving people what they think they want (eg: folding phones), but they sure seem to be giving customers a lot of what they do need (whether they realise it or not). An ecosystem that just works. I got my first Apple device in 2011, and more than ten years later, as I grow with the company, I find my needs have changed. I don't need the computing devices that I have come to rely on for my daily work and leisure to provide a multi-orgasmic thrill ride every time I switch it on. I just want my devices to work more than I want them to be cheap or filled with gimmicks.

iPhones may be boring slabs of glass and metal, but they are boring slabs that easily last 4-6 years because of their excellent build quality, long software support and good resale value.

My M1 MBA continues to offer long battery life and great performance, all while staying cool to the touch.

I continue to teach with my iPad Pro in the classroom. Are android tablets cheaper or have better specs? Irrelevant when they can't run apps like notability which simply aren't available in the google play store.

Is Spotify cheaper or has better quality audio? Who cares when I can use Siri on my Apple Watch to pull up my favourite playlist and stream it over my AirPods?

This to me is meaningful innovation. Not new features designed to grab headlines in tech blogs or YouTube videos, but features that have been proven to save lives, or just continue to work reliably in the background while I go about my daily life. Better than wondering what the next product to be canned by Google will be.

It’s not going to be that much better than anything you can get now.

This. He might as well just get an M2 laptop. Waiting for an M3 is such a waste when its going to be such a marginal speed update. I mean you could buy an M1 and be super happy with its performance.
