Apple fanboys get over it...

BBM rocks! and deep down you know it:p

anyway gotta go, just in the middle of a three-way pin conversation.

I miss my BBM!! I wish iphone had something like this for iphone users. Sometimes, i miss it so much, i think about going back...dun dun dun :(

I wonder how Apple would do a BBM clone. I remember be BBs were pager like devices, it appeared that the PIN messaging is apart of the BB "dna".

Just one of many features the iPhone lacks..

Don't want to use it? Well find me one person that wants to use that useless stock app and I'll find you 10 more people who would like an iPhone equivalent of BBM.

It's the best bit about the blackberry - which is a pile of bawwwwlz otherwise..

Ask yourself why does everyone have one? BBM is a large contributing factor..message any of your friends with an iPhone at any time for free and know when they've read the message? Why the hell would you not want it?

Any developers that could make this app? I'd pay..

BBM is what attracts social users(rather than business) to blackberries. If you say that BBM is stupid and no one uses, I say you are stupid and no one uses you. The amount of people I see on the NYC subway every day using BBM is just ridiculous. Get over it iPhone fanboys, BBM is amazing and there's nothing you can do to change that, it's only getting better.

Well said. People use BBM because it's not like texting. It's not weird to talk to someone on BBM who you havent talked to in ages, whereas it is by text.

Apple seriously need to step up their game.

All 3.0 introduced was features every other phone already had on the market. Congratulations.

As I've said in every one of these threads:

I hope Apple introduces a persistent presence and chatting solution for the iPhone. I believe it's sorely missing.

So ya .... chalk me up as another vote.

So many people here are saying it's useless, yeah, maybe for you, but not for businesses. If they have thousands of employees with BlackBerries, it allows them to quickly exchange messages without the additional cost of a text plan. And don't say "Use e-mail" either, if you have enough employees, you may need to seriously beef up your email servers to handle the load from all of the constant messaging. With BBM, you pay the flat monthly fee for the BlackBerry data plan, and can message all you want without worrying about any extra charges or crashing your email servers.

So let me get this straight. Right now you have ways to communicate with ALL your friends. You people want a way to communicate with LESS of them?

Yeah, that'll be a great product announcement:

Steve Jobs: And you just push this icon here and bam, you're suddenly cut off from more than half your friends. Bam! Incredible!

I like your sense of humor.

I dislike your lack of sense. I'll just chalk it up as another case of ignorance. This thread is oozing with it.

You do realize they can add features without taking out other features...right...

And a reply to your above post, they advertise it as a native IM client for iphones. Aka iChat for iphone...

Lack of sense is strong in this thread!

Obviously. But why would I use it instead of those other features?

How is that an ad?

Like AIM or E-Mail! Only less useful! Friends have a Pre? Screw 'em, you don't need to talk to them anyway!

Is that going to excite people?

And then when it's announced, everyone will be ticked because it will only work between iPhone owners.

What the f you talking about ad!?

And if they add it, YOU CAN STILL USE TEXTS AND EMAIL.

Just cause you find it "useless", doesnt mean everyone will!

It's free, and it lets you know if someone has read your text which is good for not having to follow up a text with a call to see if the person did in fact see the evening's plans from your text.

Well ... remember Google came out with GTalk long after AIM and MSN "won" the numbers game for IM subscribers. It worked somewhat because people had a "pre-populated" list to buddies thanks to their Gmail account .... similar to what Apple has with the 'iPhone' designation in people's contact lists.

Likewise with BBM. There was a time when literally only a few hundred people had it. Now millions do, and it's a selling feature.

And oh ya ... remind me to never hire you as a marketing manager ;)

But why do you want an IM system that can't run on a computer? Why the desire to limit where you can access it?

That seems insane to me. I can use AIM anywhere. Why would Apple make something that's like AIM but then go out of their way to make it worse?

Oh so with this logic, SMS sucks to because we cant use it on our computers... Good one. Apple wouldnt release some *****ty IM client, and we all know how good the AIM App has been with the last few updates

It freezes for 2 seconds every time an IM comes in, and its slow as hell! Though i love the push notifications, its slow!

Yeah, SMS sucks and the AIM app sucks.

Wouldn't it be great if Apple made something that was better?

I think so.

So why are people in here asking for something that does less than either of them?

Why not ask for something better?

+1

Say what you want about BBM. It works, people love it, millions use it and if you ever took it away there would be an uproar for good reason. It's one of RIM's hidden little known secrets that users love. It would be a welcomed feature on the iPhone.

SWC's logic baffles me. I'm not trying to argue with him from here on. I'll just state why *I* think it's a good idea. Take it how you will.

*FREE messaging between iPhone users
Read receipt confirmations
No need for a subscription (believe it or not, not everybody has an account with an online chat client)
Works alongside other native iPhone applications; i.e. Mail, SMS (Yay for SWC!!)
Ability to transfer data between users, which the native SMS app currently doesn't do for us AT&T minions. When they decide to pull their heads out, unless you have unlimited messaging MMS is going to eat up your allowance unless you're using it sparingly.

I'm sure I could think of more if I sat here brainstorming but it really doesn't need any more justification than I've already typed. It's been beaten to death many, many times.
