Will you be buying the new iPod touch?

Just ordered the 128Gb Space Gray iPod from Apple to replace my old 64Gb 4th gen. Should have it by Friday.

Took a chance and ordered the ULAK Extreme Heavy Duty case for the 5th gen models from Amazon, but it should fit since the dims are the same.

Yes for my son's birthday coming next month! Probably a 16 GB in blue.

And maybe one for myself but I don't have any tablet yet so maybe it's best to wait and buy an Ipad Mini 4 instead for me.

Almost Awesome!
WHY didn't they go with the 4.7" iPH 6 screen size? why, Why, WHY !!!

Ok, so we got the A8+M8 Chip, new WiFi, BT 4.1, 8mp camera, 1.2mp front camera.

No finger print id, otherwise it looks like a mini version of the iPhone 6. Is it the same iPhone 6 camera?

2.2 vs 2.4 aperture
Doesn't mention "with 1.5µ pixels" for the iPT
Five-element lens (Both)
Backside illumination (Both)
Hybrid IR filter (Both)
Panorama (Both)

Looks about the same, except the "1.5µ pixels", Sapphire crystal lens cover, and different aperture.

So it looks like a great camera, just not as great.

Anyone know the internal memory specs (ram)? 512? 1G?

Again, everything BUT the 4.7 screen. Guess it's hard to complain when it starts at $199.

Not sure if anyone has it yet, so just bookmark this question if you're getting it today. How much TRUE internal storage will it have for the folks who get the 16 GB?
Gone are the days I'm interested in iOS gaming, so I'd only have music, and a few apps like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

My music library hasn't grown much from 7.1 GB (996 songs)

I have a $100 gift card that I'll use for the purchase.
I'm stuck between 16 and 32 because if I get 16 I'm "only" coming out of pocket $100. But then again, the 32 GB is "just" $50 dollars more and is a safety net "just in case".

Ok, looks like the camera has another difference:
HD 1080 frames are less and it's missing:

Assisted GPS and GLONASS
Digital compass
iBeacon microlocation

The iBeacon missing sucks because that seems to be used in retail.

No GPS or Compass ? Still? :(
Sooooo close....

A 16gb one, a white one I think at the moment, will be going on my Christmas list :)
The camera should be pretty good too, it'll play my apps I haven't used in ages on iOS due to not having an iOS device, and is good enough for my music collection, bonus is I can download podcast straight to it too :)

Definitely getting the 128g one. Awesome camera upgrade. Using it mostly as a travel camera. Would have loved a 4.7" version....but Ya can't have everything. Going to the Apple Store tonight to see if it's in stock.

Strange, just learned this WON'T support Apple Pay. Interesting. All the other devices support Apple Pay. (iPhone, iPadMini 3, iPad Air, watch) but not iPT.

I would have thought they would be after that low income Asia market with Apple Pay.

I love my 128GB iPhone 6.

This iPod touch still causes me to think about getting rid of it. Maybe pair the touch with a dumb phone.

What will I lose?

- 3G/4G internet (don't currently have it, but its nice to have the option) (I'll admit that's weird)
- 4.7" screen
- TouchID, future NFC, Apple Pay (which isn't available in my country), Apple Watch
- Built in calling, SMS, WhatsApp = lots of convenience
- Few grams of weight in my pocket

What will I gain?

- ~300 euros (depending on what I can get for my iPhone and what size touch I'll get) (don't really care for it)
- looking cool while using my Nokia 3410

Why even bother?

Maybe my iPhone can do more than I actually need and that's what's bugging me. I like the idea of having just what I need and nothing more. I would still use the original iPhone if I could (but it's simply to slow). Ideally I want to keep using my iPhone 6 until it's absolutely unusable, so that's why I opted for the best version I could get. If I could use it for so many years it would absolutely be worth the money to me. Still, the iPod touch seems to be able to do that same job just as well, for a lot less.

Keep in mind that I've used just 140 min/sms in the last 12 months with my prepaid sim. Yes, a prepaid sim without data on an 128GB iPhone 6. See what I'm getting at?

Losing some minor conveniences, but gaining a simpler life. Less worries, simplistic living. Doesn't that sound just perfect?

But it would mean that I paid ~200 euros (900 minus whatever I can still get for it, maybe 700) to use my iPhone for just 10 months.. Sure, I can get the 64Gb touch for €339, which means I'll have 360 euros to spare. But I would have sold my iPhone for way too less for just this tiny bit of peace of mind?

That's just not enough for me. The deal is off.

Wow, writing this was a great way to get my head straight. Even though its probably one of the most unimportant "problems" ever. Good luck if you're still not sure.

Or maybe get an iPad instead? Oh god..

Edit: forgot about GPS, I use my phone in the car for navigation.

Already ordered two. 16gb. Developers now have a modern inexpensive test device they can use to test iOS apps without sacrificing their critical use iPhone. One I plan on jailbreaking and see at an app level what states it is in when jailbroken.

No. Why should I buy obsolete hardware? No GPS/Maps support. Not watertight (should be standard for mobile devices). And so on...

I will buy the Galaxy S5 mini. It has the GLONASS/A-GPS option and is watertight.

Feature-wise, that seems like a really nice choice, actually. Hell, it even seems to come in the same colors as the new touch.

Maybe apple will release a 4.7" iPod in septemeber with touch ID. I think they will go this route very soon so they don't loose out on apple pay revenue from iPod users. It makes sense to release this updated 4" model first to ensure sales, then those buyers will get buyers remorse when apple release the bigger version with touch ID and so sell their perfectly good iPods and buy the new one.

This is the big plus for us developers, however, it would be better if it had the GPS, Apple Pay, NFC/Beacon, because these are a part of many retail apps.

I guess we can always write the code and have someone else test it on a iPhone. For Apple, $199 is a good price, but there's other devices for cheaper that do more, just not Apple devices :D

They did that before, but only once. I would guess that won't happen with this as the iPT is still the runt of the pack. In fact, it surprised many that we got this upgrade.

Absolutely.

However, I am going to wait a few weeks until the usual suspects release their cases and screen protectors.

Tempting, but I already have an iPad mini and a phone. If it was the size of an iPhone 6+ I would have gotten it immediately. Debating between this and whatever the new mini will be in the fall. Would have been nice to have touch ID and 2GB RAM on the new touch, but at the price it is with an A8 there isn't much to complain about.

I guess this gives us a clue about what the next Mini might have. I bet the next iPad Mini has everything the iPad Air 2 has.

Ok, now this is even MORE confusing... Buy the iPT now, wait a few months and get the iPad Mini 4?

If there's a new iPhone 6S in the fall, will the market for the 6+ drop enough for that to be the one to buy?

So many choices.

How good is the camera on the new iPod Touch? Is it as good as the iPhone 6 or is it closer to 5S?
It's exactly the same as the one from the iPad Air 2 (but it keeps the protruding-ring from the 5th generation). I would expect images to be somewhere in between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5s (since the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 6 have better low-light capabilities).

I don't see them doing that. So many people would be upset about a new iPod touch 2 months after this one. Remember how much people were upset about the 7 month difference from the iPad 3 to the iPad 4? It is much more likely that this update be the only one for a couple of years, at least until Summer 2017 at the earliest.
