Will you be buying the new iPod touch?

Are there any cases released for the 6G yet? Or will 5G cases work for the new IPT?

Presumably, the fifth and sixth generation iPod touches are physically indistinguishable with the exception of the loop button, which wasn't included on the cheapest fifth generation touch anyway.

I wonder if this is a market test to see how many would buy this upgrade. If the upgrade goes very well, they might upgrade to touch id and maybe some other things.

It's odd that Apple knows the value of Apple Pay and they put out a product that doesn't support it.

If you consider that the major upgrades are the chip and camera, and those are the same from other products, you'd see they are basically dropping the A5 chip and older camera. Given that, this could be more of dumping old parts for currently used parts.

In other words, this could be "make or break" time for the iPT. If the market responds well, they might do a full upgrade with the next product rollout.

Already did. As soon as the site came up I got my order in. Blue 128 with free engraving..."reward if found...etc" 500 bucks with tax and Apple Care. I can't freaking wait. I love my 5 but it might be relegated to a vehicle. This should be the perfect device...good camera, lots of storage and the perfect size. I was hoping for GPS too but here in town it always shows you where you are anyway. I think it picks up home and business wifi. Check it out. The blue dot follows you everywhere.

Ordered mine just now! tried earlier at work but the order wouldn't process, got a 32GB gold to match my iPad and 6+ and decided this one time to get the engraving for it. I love working out without my phone because I won't have the distraction and the extra speed boost makes a world of a difference because when changing a song that seems like a hassle for my 5th gen.

thinking about it, mostly for my dad. he's got an ancient 4th gen, and all he really uses it for is Facebook, twitter, and card games. though he's waiting to get his hands on my 5S once i upgrade to the 6S Plus...

The battery is getting weak on my 5G, so will be getting a slate gray 32 GB 6G, but plan to wait until iOS 9.1 is shipping in it.

Psyched about the A8 and better camera. Glad they are keeping the 4 inch screen.

Touch 6 maybe just meant to sell apple music. The device got the wifi at least and you can save songs offline. The camera and A8 chip and like lucky bundle because they were clocked down to match the performance of 5s only anyway. Its surely a bargain at this price, apple has no competitors.

I'll like the blue one, 32GB. I have kept my iPhone 5C because I prefer the smaller screen to what the 6 has, so it would be nice to have that speedy new iPod touch to pair to the 5C.

But then if they bring a 4" phone to market again in the fall, hmm... and it would have Apple Pay which the new iPod touch does not, at least in this release (which makes sense since otherwise it might actually cannibalize iPhone market share).

Meanwhile I have planned to upgrade my 4th gen iPad to a refurb Air 2. I keep trying to figure out the money to do both that and the new iPod touch right now, but it seems a stretch. So I might cave in and get the iPod touch now and wait until fall to see if the Air 2 is still my path for larger iPad upgrade or if I like the Pro, in which case I'd wait awhile longer on the iPad upgrade in order to save up the money for that leap.

But there's still the issue of a 4" phone this fall? Is that a real possibility?

Off to bed before I get any more tempted to spring for that iPod touch right now!

Just bought two today, a gold and a blue, I'm chuffed that it's A8. Delivery tomorrow. They will slide right into the old Piel Frama leather cases with their well worn patina. I don't use smart phones so the Touch is my main man, with a fast landline broadband it's magic and when I go out there's wi fi everywhere now including the trains. Can't wait to see what Frax Pro is going to look like on the A8, very happy with the 4" form factor.

Only disappointment is that it only has 120 slo mo video. I wonder if this can be converted to 240 via a software update or if it's hardwired in.

Oooo! Then you wouldn't want GPS because it doesn't work underwater, indoors, or underground. Yeah sure.
If you're in an area you don't normally drive you might want gps there more than anywhere else, and for a lot of people rural areas are one of those, as would when you are traveling abroad and need to find something.

Perhaps the lack of GPS isn't an issue for you, but for some people who otherwise would want the new touch it is an issue.

If that is what you have in mind for it's use then this simply isn't the device for you. It has never had GPS. Most people I know would use the GPS on their phones if they got in a crunch and others have stand alone GPS devices or Navigation built into their cars.

I think you are making too much about the missing GPS. Just like there are those saying it doesn't have Apple pay, it doesn't have NFC. NO it doesn't, but that isn't the intended purposed for the iPod Touch. This is why Apple sells iPhones. Even the non-cellular version of iPad's doesn't have GPS built in.

I know that apple wants to up sell people to the iPhone or cellular iPads to get GPS. That doesn't mean that they couldn't have put it in for not too much extra cost.

And a lot of the market for a device like the iPod touch is people who don't have an iPhone, so why try to force them to a competing device?

Edit: forgot about GPS, I use my phone in the car for navigation.

I don't have any need for a smart phone and a plan, happy with my nokia c2, as for gps the way I use it I need something more reliable than a smartphone, my life could depend on it, literally, so when I need gps I use my eTrex 20 it's tiny and takes a couple of AA batteries. I also prefer the 4" screen and the compactness of the Touch.

Apple could do a lot of things, but they are a profit driven company and anything that will reduce the margins they want to make on this generation of iPod Touch simply will not happen. Would it be nice, sure!

They may not have an iPhone, but they generally have a cell phone of some sort which likely has GPS. If they are getting it for kids to use, they don't really have much use for GPS. I just don't think having GPS would produce enough additional sales that it is worth it to Apple to take the hit to the margins. If GPS is that big of a necessity for you then you have to look at other options.

I'm really on the edge of buying an iPod Touch 6th Gen 32GB Space Grey to go with my iPhone 6 as I prefer my music separate. But one thing that has bothered me is I can't use the music app on the apple watch which is going to suck :( :/

I too prefer to have my music separate from my phone because I get many calls, text and emails through-out my busy day and if I got an interruption each time that would drive me crazy. I tried using the Galaxy Note 4 as my primary music device and it has bluetooth issues that cause it to skip during music playback, but again I realized all the interrputions was just too much.

I do not have an Apple watch nor do I have any interest in one, but who knows maybe eventually they will allow the iPod Touch to work with the Apple Watch and especially the Music App.

Staged announcements are reserved for products Apple deems important enough to highlight on its homepage. iPods lost that distinction some time ago.

All that could change with apple pay as it now becomes iPod / digital wallet / newly tagged as - life pod - because it gets you home gets, you stuff ...
