Will you be buying the new iPod touch?

So glad to see these come about. My answer is right at the this moment - no, I will not be buying one. I currently have a 5G that does everything I need it to. If iOS9 truly turns out to be a bad experience for the 5G, I will be looking into a 6G. Regardless of that specifically, I'm very glad these exist as I will be purchasing one eventually down the line when I need an upgrade. I know it for sure. It's great that Apple chose to still offer dedicated media players.

Very happy about this. This is probably the first time that Apple has done something that favors us cavemen. ;)

I don't see them doing that. So many people would be upset about a new iPod touch 2 months after this one. Remember how much people were upset about the 7 month difference from the iPad 3 to the iPad 4? It is much more likely that this update be the only one for a couple of years, at least until Summer 2017 at the earliest.

but this iPod update wasn't announced on stage. It was more a silent update.

no, a major update is a redesign which a move to a iPod + with touch ID would be. They'd save that for on stage.
You're right, they would save a redesign for a keynote. However, for me a major update is an increase in generation, even if it looks the same. That's why I'm very doubtful that they would show a 7th generation in two months.

I haven't decided between the 64 GB or 128 GB and I'm not sure if I want it in gold or pink. Will decide by next Friday when I buy it.

They'll want apple pay (on iPod) out before Christmas. They didn't announce this iPod update so really they owe buyers nothing because they silently updated their current product to better specs as they say in the small print on their website so really they rewarded buyers of the current design.

All they have to do is say we are now adding a new model to our iPod line up.

I still have to respectfully disagree with you. If they were really interested in Apple Pay for the iPod touch, they would have added it. You can quote me in two months and tell me I was completely wrong, but as for now, we'll just have to wait and see.

Strange, just learned this WON'T support Apple Pay. Interesting. All the other devices support Apple Pay. (iPhone, iPadMini 3, iPad Air, watch) but not iPT.

I would have thought they would be after that low income Asia market with Apple Pay.
The "low income Asia market" uses Huawei/ZTE devices.

nah no need to quote you. Its not my game. I just think if they do it the way i said they can increase sales more than if they just added it or announced it.

Thank for being a good sport about it :)

Can't argue with that because I also think showing a redesigned model in a future keynote would help sales with more exposure.

No. Why should I buy obsolete hardware? No GPS/Maps support. Not watertight (should be standard for mobile devices). And so on...

I will buy the Galaxy S5 mini. It has the GLONASS/A-GPS option and is watertight.

Yes and like all other Samsung Galaxy devices Bluetooth sucks and skips like crazy on music playback. Good Luck with that.

My old iPod Classic is slowly dying. I use it as a dedicated music library for my car. I live in a rural area and streaming is not an option for me, both because of the spotty cell reception in my town but also because of the cost of data plans with my carrier. I drive a lot, usually a couple hours a day for work, so I listen to music constantly.

This is a silly question, but what's the sound quality like on an iPod Touch versus the old 5.5 gen Classics? I'd hate to buy a $400 Touch specifically for music if the output sounds like crap.

The more news released about it, the better it gets :) Plus it's fantastic, IMO, that it's the exact same size as the old touch, because it's a really compact thin device, with a good camera!

I've already told those that need to know this is all I want for Christmas haha, need to decide on the colour though? thinking white and silver but the gold looks sexy.. hmmm.
It's going to be a great replacement for my 3rd gen Nano, and I will use it in my car but with the bluetooth and I'll just keep it in my pocket or bag with one of those stick on plastic shield case things.

Seriously, not water tight??????? That's a REALLY lame disadvantage to claim it has. Then again so is the no GPS, I'm not sure of any Android touch screen MP3 only player that comes with GPS built in?

Debating picking one up. I have a 5G I bought in November and I just updated it from iOS 7 to 8.4, but it still seems to run good on 8.4. However I dropped it once and it has one tiny blemish on the chamfer, it kind of bothers me, lol. I really use it as an actual iPod and travel camera and that's about it, so a camera upgrade wouldn't be bad. Could go to 64 gig too instead of 32 gig. My thinking is this iPod will be it for the next three years, may as well get one now on the front end of the product cycle rather than on the back end like I knowingly did with my 5G. 5G will probably run iOS 9 fine, but doubt it will be supported for iOS 10.

Are these new iPods in stores today?

I'm still using my 4g because the 5g just didn't seem like enough of an upgrade for a device that has become a supplement to my iPad. But it's so slooooow, and the battery only lasts a few hours. I just ordered a 64gb model in product red and I'm looking forward to the camera, speed etc etc.

Good move. Going from the fourth to fifth generation touch was a substantial upgrade for me; I can only imagine what a difference you'll get.

Are there any cases released for the 6G yet? Or will 5G cases work for the new IPT?
