Thank you both! That is more money that I like to allow for a gift, that is why I wonder. But I think if we go for the 16 GB we'll regret it soon. But there is always the risk that he lost or broke the device...

Do you think a cover plan is a good idea or just a good case is enough?

If you're paying by credit card, check with the company as many automatically tack on an extra year of warranty.

I prefer the white bezel. I use the iPod touch mostly as a camera, and I find the black bezel is not only too reflective & distracting out in sunlight, it also bleeds into frame in darker situations making it hard to figure out where the scene ends and the bezel begins. Just my 2 cents.
Interesting. I too use my iPod Touch as a camera, but I find that the black bezel helps me to see colors and composition MORE accurately than the white. I've never taken photos in such dark situations that I would be unable to differentiate between the bezel and the shot. Considering that only one model comes with a black bezel, I know that I'm in the small minority who prefer black. :)

They are in the UK stores now, I'm hoping the price drops towards Christmas, they are all currently charging full RRP, but also selling the old 5th gen at reduced price to clear stock.
I hoping they drop the 16gb by £10 by November ish time.

Also interesting how this poll shows a more or less even split of the numbers that want each storage size.

I was intrigued by it, what with it being new and shiny but after consideration I was leaning toward getting a used iPhone but when I looked they were either selling for crazy high prices or were stolen ones that were locked and mostly worthless. So I'm back waiting for a holiday sale on a 64GB Touch

No, for the reasons and details stated below...

i wish a bigger screen size ipod touch ... why is apple still stick with 4 inch screen ?
Don't get me wrong, the overall bump in specs were marvelous. However, a 4.7" screen was a requirement for me, and that was NOT delivered.

Kind to think of it, all of my IpT purchases were primarily for better screens...
I started off with an IpT3. Upgraded to IpT4 for Retina display. Camera wasn't that great, but at times, it was better than nothing. Plus, it wasn't uncommon for my flip phone to run out of battery (since it's recommended to let it go empty as opposed to "topping it off")

Upgraded to IpT5 for that extra 0.5". Better camera for the same reasons, even if it was inferior to the same gen Iph. Nice to have an IpT in yellow (or really, anything other than black or white)

The charge on my IpT5 isn't what it used to be when I got it almost 2 years ago. However, it's still kicking. For the first time, the new IpT will NOT be an insta-buy for me. That's not to say I'll never touch the IpT6 for sure. It's just that when my IpT5 battery goes, or too many games require ios8, I'll revisit my options then.

Yes, I will definitely get at least one (and maybe up to four, forwife, kid and parents). Presumably 64 GB (black).

it's just a matter of when, since the Euro has devalued so massively that I'm tempted to wait until Black Friday or a similar opportunity.

It's too bad all these Amazon/WalMart/BestBuy deals don't include the iPT or iPadMini in the lower specs. I want a new Apple device, but TBH, they are pricy compared to the same specs from others.

I want it as a dev test tool, but now that Android has a new solution to security, I'll have more options outside of Apple's ecosystem.

Ugh I'm buying my iPod touch today. I still haven't decided between 64GB and 128GB.

I already have a 128GB iPhone 6 plus and I only have 13GB left.

I went with the 64GB. I I figured I'd try it out and if I needed more space I'll just exchange it at the Apple Store and pay the extra. I've got 14 days so that should be enough time to figure out how much storage I need.

Just sold my 5th generation 32GB Ipod slate colour one and ordered a Space Gray 16GB model.

I enjoy my Ipod as a second device and the A5 is just too slow. I never felt it was worth paying extra for the 32GB again as there's not many new games on the app store these days. I hope I don't regret not getting a bigger one however it's been quite a cheap upgrade for me with the sale of my old one only £40 extra to pay.

I have a pink 32gb 5th gen that I'm happy with (I'm still learning how to use it lol). No intention of upgrading to the 6th since the 5th fits my current needs.

No, I have discovered the fact that I can connect any android phone to wifi, start them up and boom it's a much cheaper iPod touch. I have had massive issues with the touch's battery in the past on 2 different models of touch so I am done with this product line. I have a iPhone 5c on wifi only that I LOVE the pink color of and I will be keeping that until it's unsupported. iPod touch is a massively overpriced product considering the Moto G is $20 at best buy and has a bigger screen and can do anything the touch can.

I am sure that you could find an equivalent android phone with better specs and a SD card slot for $50-70 easily if I wanted something better. SD cards are very cheap these days and only seem to be coming down more and more in price. But $20 vs $200-250 is a no brainer, it's just too much money when there is another product on the market that can do the same thing.

I do not have to worry about battery with the android phone, they are cheap enough to replace. Gets stolen, lost or cracked, cheap enough to buy several times over for the cost of one iPod touch.

If you are really cheap you can buy phones at dollar general and family dollar for like $9 each when they go on sale. Mine came to $4 after rebates. They are small and portable and make nice MP3 players.

I have had multiple Android phones, none of them cheap and the issue which is well documented and known is the constant skipping via bluetooth playback. I've used multiple music apps and they all do this, which has been documented to be an Android issue period.

I'll take the iPod over an Android phone that skips during playback any day even if I have to pay more. I guess you do get what you pay for!

I have had no issues streaming Internet radio over android via Bluetooth yet which is how I listen to most of my music. It doesn't show the battery % of your device but that is something I can easily live with. Considering that streaming radio over Bluetooth eats a significant portion of battery life keeping cheap android phones on hand for streaming makes good financial sense as they can be replaced cheaply as well instead of wearing down the battery on a $200-700 device when the $4 android phone does exactly the same thing.

If that is what works for you then fantastic. Note 3 and Note 4 well known skipping issue during music playback on any music app. That is my experience and that is what I go by. I can't disagree about bluetooth music playback eating up battery, which is why I have an iPT6, this resolves all my issues and Google with Android can kiss my glass!

So I've been able to spend a little time over the last 5 days or so with my new 32GB blue iPT6. Although I'm not a fan of the white bezel, I couldn't pass up the deal that Costco has for the blue. Quite a terrific little device. This is an upgrade from my 64GB iPT4 and 32GB iPhone 4 (that I used exclusively as an iPod). Size and performance are great.

I haven't had the ability to really test the camera yet, but the few pics that I snapped looked far better than those other 2 devices. That's to be expected. But I'm curious as to the speed of the camera vs the other 2. The iPhone4 is a bit pokey in the time it takes to awaken the device select the camera app and take the photo. The iPT4 is quite speedy.

I don't have a Samsung device so I can't comment on that.

However I was getting less than an hour of streaming from an ipt5. With me wearing down 2 iPod touch models way before their lifespan is up its clear the device does not meet my needs.

I can usually get a full day for me which is 5-6 hours of Internet radio streaming out of an android device like the Moto G or even a ZTE zinger before it complains of low battery. Keep in mind my devices are not activated and are on wifi only with cell data off so that would probably make them have more battery life. The Moto G also has a battery that cannot be replaced so that is another con of the device but for $20 it's definitely a worthwhile purchase. It's also totally possible to do streaming on just about any phone that can download the tune in app that I use since its literately the same experience on every device.

I won the new ipod touch in a contest and i must say its a beautiful gadget.Great for apps, games, web browsing, music, videos, etc. Although i would never have bought it but for free it's pretty good.

Well, even though there are products that folks wouldn't even take for free, it's still not saying as much ;)

I previously had an iPT4 and used up until I got the iPT6. Even with it being 4 years old, I was still getting most of a days battery life. I cannot imagine what you do that would cause them to run dead in an hour. I surely can't replicate it even on a 4 year old iPT4. I would have to see that with my own eyes. Like I said glad the Android is working for you, but speaking for myself I am totally done with Android. Come Sept I will rid myself of the Note 4 and I can barely wait!

Considered it, but then I realized I could just get a 5 inch Moto G for less money and more functionality. So I'm going that way.
+1. I've been recommending Moto E/G in lieu of the iPod Touch for folks not interested in iOS exlcusive apps or married to the Apple ecosystem. The Motos are actually pretty decent smartphones in their own right. I think I'll get a Moto G (2015) instead of upgrading to the next model iPhone 128GB. Even with the cost of microSD card, the Moto G is still a hell of a lot cheaper.

Edit:
Just remembered, the new Moto G is also water resistant. Really, lots of things to like as long as you're okay with Android. :)
