Will you be buying the new iPod touch?

Not sure if anyone has it yet, so just bookmark this question if you're getting it today. How much TRUE internal storage will it have for the folks who get the 16 GB?
Gone are the days I'm interested in iOS gaming, so I'd only have music, and a few apps like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

My music library hasn't grown much from 7.1 GB (996 songs)

I have a $100 gift card that I'll use for the purchase.
I'm stuck between 16 and 32 because if I get 16 I'm "only" coming out of pocket $100. But then again, the 32 GB is "just" $50 dollars more and is a safety net "just in case".

Absolutely--spend the extra $50! You'll get *double* the memory for only $50. That alone makes it worth it.

But also consider this:

Your use patterns may change in the future (e.g., watching and storing films and TV shows, etc.) that will need lots more room.

You may get into photography with such a good camera; photos and especially videos from the 8mb camera will take up lots of room.

You may get into gaming (just one rich movie-like game can take up a couple of gb!)

You may get into hobbies and collects gobs of apps--e.g., I'm into astronomy and have dozens of apps and some of them are "space hogs". :)

The OS itself takes up several gb; leaving you much less than 16 gb to begin with!

Future OSs will likely take up even more space.

Buying an i-device with too little memory can be a source of regret and is something that can't be changed; buying one with more will be a source of pleasure. You'll forget the $50 very quickly or earn it relatively quickly.

Buying one with double the memory also means you won't have to worry about running out of space--and won't run into situations where you are juggling what's on the iPod--taking things off to save space, etc. One of our i-devices has 32gb; we never worry about space; about managing it, etc. OTOTH, another one of ours is 16gb, and we are often checking the space from time to time, figuring out which apps we really don't use, etc.

Finally, the icing on the cake, 32gb will be better resale value down the road!

The reason I have all these at my finger tips is that we being tempted by the 16gb because of its low price, but then realized how much more we'd get for only $50 extra! Go for it!

They did that before, but only once. I would guess that won't happen with this as the iPT is still the runt of the pack. In fact, it surprised many that we got this upgrade.

September is definitely too soon--buyers would be upset!

I'll bet next summer they will do the 4.7" and maybe even the 5.5"!

I don't game much either, but I still wen

I don't game much either and I still went with the 32GB. The 16GB model has a bit less than 12GB free out of the box and that just doesn't last long at all. With the last 16GB device I had, I was regularly having to delete items to make room for newer stuff. After just loading up everything on my brand new iPod touch I still have about 15GB free, but clearly had I only went with the 16GB model, it would already be completely full.

I nabbed the 128gb in gold tonight at the local Apple Store. Was torn between the Gold & Blue. But they didn't have the blue in 128 in stock. So decision made.

I'm one of "those" adults who refuses to get a smartphone. Partly because of the money. Partly because of principal. I hate contracts & expensive monthly fees. And partly, because I travel so much. I would mainly want the iPhone as a travel camera anyway. So it'd be overkill to spend so much for that. Now that the iPod touch 6 camera pretty much matches the iPhone 6, it's a no brainer.

I had the iPT5 but it died a horrible death. I used it as my travel camera. And I paired it with the iPad mini with an unlimited data plan from ATT that I'm grandfathered in on. For those curious, I don't miss a phone. I Like face to face conversations. But I can text and make calls via VOIP apps on my iPad as well as Skype & face time. I have a Google number, and calls go to voicemail & email if I don't pick up. I can do the same on my iPod touch when near wifi...which is pretty much all the time. You'd be surprised how many cities in foreign countries have universal free wifi coverage.

Perhaps if money truly was no object, I'd get an iPhone on contract to one of the big telcos. But I just don't miss it or really need it with my set up. I can communicate just fine thank you very much.

I may spring for an iPhone off contract to use just as a camera like my iPod touch down the road. I've been hearing rumors of some Apple patent for a future iPhone with a dual lens camera system that would rival dslr quality. Since that seems a loooong way off, I'm sticking with the iPod touch as my travel camera for now. It rocks.

Plus I like the small size for stealth in street photography. Much more inconspicuous than the iPhone 6 or 6plus phablet. Very portable.

I'm gonna go out shooting with it this weekend and start posting to my Instagram account. Been using my iPad mini for photography since my iPT 5 died. :)

The quality of the camera seems to match somewhere between the iPhone 5 and 5S, just like the Air 2. Not a bad camera at all though given the price points.

Really torned about it. I have an iPhone 6 and an iPod Touch 3, which is really as old as an iOS device can get in terms of speed and battery life. The only reason I use it is simply because of the time spent at the gym, where the 6 is too cumbersome, while the touch easily fits in my pocket.

Thought about holding off until the watch becomes good enough (second or third gen), which would be even more convenient, but now I don't know.

The sound quality is very good, the size and weight is perfect for the gym and the price was right.

How is the sound from the built-in speaker? This is not a big factor, nor a deal breaker, but was wondering whether it was still tinny and soft... I suppose, given how thin it is, it still is!

We're still tempted...

I really haven't listened with the built-in speaker. Maybe down the road but I want to hammer out Apple Music first and listen to a dozen or so different earphones I have. :)

I was going to order but I have doubts. Do you think 16G is enough for a 10 yo boy?
I think he will use it mostly for games in the next couple of years. In some years, I think he will buy an Ipad with more space for game and use his Ipod more for music.
16G is already a pricey gift we'll buy with his grandparents, but I wonder.
I'm not sure about the cover plan either.

I'm leaning to a 64GB gen6 Touch. My gen5 was stolen and I really feel the loss of a pocket-able device. I dearly wish they had gone 4.7" and/or TouchID but it's either a new Touch or a new iPad mini. I have the iPad Air2 so there is overlap there, the Air2 can do everything the Mini does but lacks pocket-ability as does the mini. The camera upgrade is just what I want as is the better price on a 64GB touch this year. I don't see that a new mini is going to be all that great, most are saying it will just be a slightly smaller and lighter Air2 with a processor bump. Nothing compelling to me.

I'm still debating between 64GB or 128GB. I'm getting it on Friday next week. I think I'll go for the gold unless the pink sells itself to me when I go to the store. I already have a 128GB iPhone 6 plus but I've only got 13GB left so I think I should probably go for the 128GB as I'm a hoarder and will fill up whatever space I'm given.

It all depends on what you put on it. I have a 160GB iPod Classic for the car so that takes some pressure off for music.
Still I agree 128GB would be nice, just don't know if it is worth another $100. I'm waiting for a sale over some holiday probably Black Friday before I buy one.

Spend the extra $50 and get the 32GB. Adolescents like to try all the new games and given that the 16GB actually gives you about 12GB out of the box. It just makes sense to go to the next step up. Also if he gets into taking pictures which a lot of kids do. It will eat up the space very quickly.

Not to mention recording videos!

If I didn't switch from the Note 4 to the S6 I would have gotten one. Was looking for a smaller device and this touch would have complimented such a larger device nicely.
If it had GPS I could have used it but Apple continues to screw that up.

Yeah, Apple likes to think they're the best at what they do, yet they can't seem to find a way to implement good GPS search without relying on Cellular triangulation.

Or they just couldn't handle the potential loss of sales that would cause to their Cellular-enabled devices which have the best profit margin.

I went to my local Apple Store today and got a gold 32 gig iPod touch 6. I have a 32 gig iPod touch 5 and never filled it up. I use mine for music and streaming video so it was good enough for me. Apparently the Apple Store is the only place selling it right now. They told me the gold one is a limited edition one. Did not know that. I am very happy with the speed. It runs like my iPhone 6. Overall very happy with my purchase.

Thank you both! That is more money that I like to allow for a gift, that is why I wonder. But I think if we go for the 16 GB we'll regret it soon. But there is always the risk that he lost or broke the device...

Do you think a cover plan is a good idea or just a good case is enough?

32 GB with a very sturdy case would suffice. Don't wanna end up with a resentful 10 y.o. for only having a measly 12GB of storage.

It's a bit much to spend no doubt about it. However, it would bring much joy and it would last for a few years at minimum. I personally would skip the cover plan and just buy a very good tough case with a screen protector for it. Then you won't have to worry so much about it. Remember those cover plans don't cover accidental damage, so there is really no point to buying a plan.

My 5-year-old 3g 64 iPod Touch starting having problems two weeks ago so this update could not have come at a better time for me. I bought a blue 64GB Touch and Friday and it's been working great. Jumping three generations is very impressive. :D
Are there any cases released for the 6G yet? Or will 5G cases work for the new IPT?
I bought a clear plastic 5G case from Belkin and it fits fine. The only issue it has a hole for a non-existent loop connector.

I have two girls (5 & 7) who would love to have their own "iPhone" like mommy and daddy do. It's a great size for them and they don't need GPS or Touch ID so missing those features does not matter if Apple's target audience is kids for this..

Reading comments like this makes me feel embarrassed to be a 22 year old male that uses an iPod as his primary mobile device lol.

But phones are expensive. :(

This is very close to my situation. I access the web and email and listen to music daily but I use a cell phone only about 5 to 10 times a year. So, the cheap prepaid flip phone that only costs me $10 for 30 minutes can last me a year. So, I can't justify the added cost of an iPhone or the plan (even a prepaid one) that would come with it.

Interesting. Now that would make me consider an iPhone.

Buying stuff based on your available budget is a sign of maturity, nothing's wrong with that.
Thank you. :)

Nice, congratulations!

I'd love to get a 64GB gold, but that white bezel is killing me.

I prefer the white bezel. I use the iPod touch mostly as a camera, and I find the black bezel is not only too reflective & distracting out in sunlight, it also bleeds into frame in darker situations making it hard to figure out where the scene ends and the bezel begins. Just my 2 cents.

What I don't like about the white bezels is how there is the black border constantly around the screen. I guess every phone has that, but the way it is on the iPhone for some reason drives me batty.

Plus, the black iPhones just look so much more... clean.
