I think we in these forums are dying to get one. We are on the bleeding edge.

There will not be lines forming.

I think there is enough people who have been waiting for an Apple watch that there will be lines. As a percentage of the overall population, we may not be that many, but it's easy to imagine, for example, in New York city,, at least several hundred people showing up at each store. That will create lines.

I think if there are no preorders, I'll probably get up very early, like 5am, and get to the store around 6-6:30 to stand in line.

That's what I was thinking in terms of how big the lines will be. Maybe in some of the smaller to medium size stores we will see 75-150 people in line, or something along those lines. Large stores, without a doubt, will have lines, especially 5th Avenue.

I enjoy driving by the local store just because the line makes me laugh. It's just so amusing how emotional Apple buyers are. I can't even imagine standing in line for any kind of consumer gadget. Yet obviously these people have nothing more important to do. I'm so happy I don't have that problem. :)

I am so glad I and others are able to make you smile. It's the least we could do.

I am now to preparing to do the line too to ensure technosix smile. That is what the world needs!*

Heh.

I had never waited in line for a product launch, until the first iPad. But then, the iPad was the product I had wanted for at least 15 years, if not 20. Because ever since I got my first laptop, I had been wanting to just take the screen off the keyboard so I could just use the screen part. At some point, Microsoft started pushing Windows tablets, but they were basically just a Windows laptop minus the keyboard, with desktop software that had to be used with a stylus. The iPad with iOS was finally the tablet I'd been waiting for, and I couldn't wait a day longer, so I stood in line on launch day. Ever since then, it's gotten to be an annual habit, where we stand in line for at least one iOS device each year. There's something about the excitement of waiting in line, and the thrill of getting your hand on a product on the first day, that's addictive. Now I can't stop! :p

You must be a hit at parties.

I love how people such as Technosix condescend and make huge uninformed conclusions however, as I have nothing better to do - perhaps some rich guy will offer me beaucoup bucks to stand in his place. But I digress. I have been to a few Apple launches. One of the early OSX launches had a line. I also stood in line for the grand opening of the Grove store in Los Angeles. I know not everyone enjoys the company of strangers, but I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. Since the announcement comes three or four weeks in advance I, and others, will have plenty of time to properly arrange our schedules.

nope i will order it online like i have done everything else the new Mac Mini and a time capsule being the last two purchased items

Pre-order and have it deliver to me on launch day (I hope). I did that for the first time with my 6 Plus (went through VZW though) and I got my phone before 10AM on launch day, aka the first Tim UPS actually delivered something to me in the morning (sheer luck only because a package that went missing through UPS was found the 18th and got next-day priority delivery before 10AM so my phone tagged along lol).

I'm not going to do what I did with my phone though. If funds allow, there is one specific model I'm going to get (SS 42mm, Blue Leather Loop) and if I have to wait so be it. If there are no preorders or the model I want is back ordered by a month or more, I'll wait at the store. I have only done it once when they moved and remodeled my local store and it was a fun experience.

I love camping out as well. My first launch that I camped for was the iPhone 6, and I was planning on camping out for the Apple Watch as soon as it was announced. Like you said, there is something about being in line with a bunch of people with the same interest as you and getting your hands on a new product on launch day. I also plan on camping out for at least 1 new iOS device each year as well :D

No, I'll just pre-order online. Not really sure what other stores will carry it besides Apple. Maybe Best Buy? If Apple.com got slammed during the iPhone launch, just wait.

I think we in these forums are dying to get one. We are on the bleeding edge.

There will not be lines forming. There will be a lot of curious people that want to see it in the stores however because they will have seen something on CNN or a news paper in the days leading up to the launch.

There is much hype for the iphone launches because it already has an established user base in the many millions.

USA Today, WSJ, Bloomberg and other mainstream media are speculating on the Apple Watch in the same way they do for the iPhone. This is indicative of many many people being interested in the product, not just the bleeding edgers.

There will be lines... and based on Tim Cook's recent statements about how things are likely to work in the store, they will be long, and slow moving.

I won't wait in line, or pre-order because I want to check them out in the store to see which strap I want to use, and what size I want to choose.

Ditto. Have never "camped out" but if there are no preorders I will get to the store to line up around 4 - 5am.

Assuming you're in the US, which part of the country are you located? Fortunately I'm in the LA area and we have two stores that actually face the street so it makes lining up early easy (plus the weather on March 27 should be nice lol).

I have never lined up at a mall store that far in advance.

I would LOVE to camp out. I've done it for many iPhone launches in the past, and I consider it to be an experience. It really is great... there are generally pretty awesome people in line, and Apple provides free food and stuff. Unfortunately, I have more commitments these days, so unless it releases on a weekend I wouldn't be able to wait in line. I'll most likely end up pre ordering it online and having it delivered to my office.

Maybe they'll display them at stores like Lafayette in France so people can see them before ordering online?

My comments were just that...comments. This is after all, simply a forum of public opinion. I was just sharing my thoughts.

If your insecurity caused you to take them as condescending, that's on you.

To personalize your post and take aim at me is not only against forum rules, it reflects your lack of self respect.

Next time before you name someone in a post to attack them look in the mirror and think again. If you're a responsible person , you'll follow the forum rules you agreed to.

It's the adult thing to do. :)

I'm too old for camping out.

At this stage in my life, the only thing I would wait in line through the night for is the helicopters airlifting people away from the approaching Zombie Invasion...

:D

(I think that those who get a lot of notifications during the day, but respond only to some, will quickly figure out the joy of culling out the important ones by a quick glance at their wrist. OTOH, I think that others who ALWAYS respond to EVERY notification, will just as quickly figure out that they might as well pull out their phone to begin with.)

This has been exactly my experience with notifications on a watch. It goes in waves though. There are times when I may or may not respond depending on the urgency. Other times I am totally available and will respond immediately to any non-spam. In those cases the watch is a pain. I end up doing two actions instead of just one.

I don't think so. The faster people get them the happier they are. And Apple will just come out a week later and say "We sold a billion. Flop my ass..." Ok maybe not that many and they might word it differently.

That is not how a hype machine works. You need constrained supplies and scarcity to keep momentum for longer than a weekend. Apple needs there to be stories of people trying to get the watch they want weeks later. The last thing they want is to satisfy the initial rush in less than a week. Then the :apple:Watch story goes away until the next one is revealed. Perception is what it is all about. Selling out makes it a perceived hit. Plenty of stock makes it a perceived failure.

Selling out makes it a perceived hit. Plenty of stock makes it a perceived failure.

This has happened -- I think it was iPad 3. Apple managed to make enough of it, so that even though it sold well, everyone who wanted one could get one on launch week. What was funny was all the scalpers returning their purchases once they found that they could not sell them off for insane profits like they expected!

That said, I don't think Apple purposefully makes less than they expect to sell. But the most important thing is not to make more than they can sell, because unsold stock is totally lost money. People having to wait to buy your product means that some might go buy something else, but most will wait until your product becomes avaiable. So the prudent thing to do when deciding how much stock to make avaiable on launch is to err on the side of making too few. If the lines and sold-out products add to the hype, that's just a side benefit.

As long as they offer them I'll be placing a pre-order via Verizon asap. If they don't then the day they become available I'll be ordering it day 1. I've got a trip coming up in April and would be great if I had it in time for the trip.
