The trailer makes it look like a shallow movie lacking any substance or fun. The focus appears to be on special effects of cities getting destroyed and eyeballs getting extra pupils.

Trailers are occasionally misleading, but my impression so far is that Mummy 2017 is just another completely forgettable FX-riddled Hollywood blockbuster that is more suitable as a Universal Studios attraction than it is as a story.

I will pass unless the reviews prove otherwise.

I was never fan of Tom Cruise but seeing him in the Edge of Tomorrow, changed my opinion. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a movie that stars him.
I love Tom Cruise as an actor. As a person, he's a nut job.

Nope, wont be going to the movie theater for this movie (or any other for that matter) but I already put it in my queue for a rental when it comes out. As for T.C., he may be a bit different* than others in real life but as some have said, he takes his acting and production values quite serious and puts on a good show. The trailer looks like he put some of the best action sequences reminiscent of his past films. T.C. remains as part of my youth all the way back to Risky Business and later, Top Gun. I look forward to this movie as a rental.

Yep. He's been in some of my favorite movies.

Very much looking forward to it... Just like phredd said above, Tom Cruise's movies have been part of my youth and I've always enjoyed his films one way or another. In large part because, regardless of his private life, he remains extremely dedicated to his work and his audience. So everytime he comes up with a new movie, I know it's at least going to be great entertainment. And he's a great actor too, even if he seems to prefer action over so-called oscar-winning turns.

This new Mummy will certainly be different and more action-oriented, but that doesn't mean it's gonna be bad.

What I would have liked though is a proper R-rated Mummy film...we'll see...

Here's a recent interview I saw a couple days ago, where he seems suprisingly relaxed and cheerful, as opposed to his usual "promo mode"... the exquisite Sophia Boutella joins them as well ;)

...And I hear they're starting filming Top Gun 2 next year, with Val Kilmer too no less! :)

Tom Cruise hasn't aged a day, so I could still see him as a naval aviator. It must be all the Thetans he's eating.

But everyone else has aged like normal human beings. If they redo the volleyball scene there will be a lot more grey, curves, and floppiness.

I had my arm twisted to see this in the theater... in short BARF.

I much preferred the 1999 version. The premise of two US Army guys on duty, running around Iraq looking for antiquities, a giant, I mean giant hole gets blown in the ground revealing.....a tomb. I've seen this story before, I had a real issue with the plot premise right after the big showdown, plus they throw in a guy named Dr. Jekyll??

IMDB 5.8/10
Rotten Tomatoes 15% Critics, 48% Audience Like

I'll probably catch it at some point if it ever comes to Sky or Netflix. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it though, not really enthused by it.

Looks like the movie is a flop and an inauspicious start for the Dark Universe. I had high hopes, and the trailers looked intriguing. Given the high price of movie tickets, I'll pass and wait until this hits iTunes or Netflix.

So in other words..

It will be as great as the 2005 version of "War of the Worlds"...
