Actually, my friend grew up on Drive-Ins and moved to where there was one, so "War of the Worlds (2005)" was the first drive-in movie I ever saw.

How appropriate it was, a b-scifi movie, sitting watching it in a car from far away with a little metal box for sound... :)

War of the Worlds- Besides the CGI which was stellar, the initial appearance of the aliens in town square which was a great buildup, I enjoyed the feeling of the breakdown of society in survival mode, like when they lost their van. It was also the first movie I remember with a seemless flow from inside a moving vehicle to outside to back in, although something like this was done in the Matrix Reloaded (2003) highway chase scene.

This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, and I'm pretty easily amused and went into this wanting to like it despite the reviews. The first half was actually pretty okay, but once Russell Crowe stepped in, it took a sharp down hill fast. He really needs to stop being in movies. He reached his peak in Gladiator. Now he's just overweight and very uncomfortable to watch on screen. What was up with his Mr. Hyde transformation? He went from Russell Crowe to malnourished Russell Crowe. God it was awful. This movie had a lot of potential to kickstart the whole Dark Universe thing, but it's almost as if they were trying to fail in every conceivable way. And dear lord that ending had me cringing so hard. The script and directing were just terrible. The only one that seemed to take their job seriously was Sofia Boutella (the mummy).

Meh ...

I've forgotten the ending already....
