Nope.

(personally, I cannot see a great reason...yes I have read numerous threads/posts trying to invent one.)

When on the iPhone there are times I wish for a larger screen...iPad fits that.
When on the iPad I sometimes wish for a larger screen... nothing.

When on the iPad I don't think I have ever thought, I wish this was a smaller screen...and if I ever did...iPhone fits that bill.

A neighbor has a Kindle...I looked it over, besides it being slow and jumpy, it was too small. most sites looked terrible at that size...lots of zooming and panning. overall and awful experience...somewhat like the Apple.com website on my iPhone...why have they not created a responsive site for Apple??

PS.Even my son, closing in on 3rd birthday, has no issues at all with a normal-sized iPad. AND, he has small hands.

PSS. and my wife even thinks it is a stupid size after looking at other mini tablets and the kindle. too big to pocket, to small to be good.

Happy with current model - no chance in Hell I will purchase a smaller one. Try reading your email, watching a movie, or anything else on a 7 inch screen. Not a pleasant experience. Oh wait, there is a good use for a 7 inch tab - GPS unit showing where you are going...

Well if your wife says it is a bad idea I guess that finishes the argument. I guess we can just close this thread.:p

I wish they have a 13inch retina ipad, so it would be a dream to read PDF. lol:
If you don't have an ipad before, i think buying ipad mini make sense, especially to save some money compare to ipad 3.

No, and I will be very surprised if one will even be produced.
I keep hearing people throw around a 200 - 250 price tag on a smaller size,
Where do you think they are going to get such a huge difference in cost to charge that little for the "ipad mini"? Do you think the Screen will cost 100 - 150 less, just because it is a few inches smaller? What are they going to have to cut out to get to that price point and still make money? I do not see Apple marginalizing the success of the ipad, with an Ipad mini. I just see it as a big problem for Apple, customer service, and developers. So don't count on it.

Why? You've offered no compelling evidence to support your statement. The screen doesn't have to cost $100-150 less. With a smaller iPad you have a smaller screen which means that the battery doesn't have to be as large. The components inside may use newer generation pieces that are smaller and consume less power and cheaper. A $250GB model is probably going to have 8GB of NAND storage which is going to be cheaper than 16GB.

It's not about one item costing a great deal less it's about all of the items receiving a reduction in price so that a less inexpensive product can be delivered. This scenario plays itself out in just about any manufacturing endeavor.

The current iPad uses 40nm parts even down to the CPU. The iPad mini would be likely using 28/32nm parts that are cheaper to fabricate. If IGZO technology is used for the display is may save even more battery life.

I don't see Apple using a Quad Core processor. A dual core A5 at 32nm would be fine at this price point.

If it's $300 or less I'll buy two, one for each kid. Me and the wife each have an iPad 2 and neither of us even considered upgrading to the 3. Both of the kids want one but I'm not paying $400 for a tablet for either 12 or 6 year old. But at $300 or less I will. It would be nice to not have Dora and Barbie crap all over my iPad.

I don't see the price being an issue. Reuse the same internals from the iPad 2 but on a smaller process. Use a cheaper non-Retina screen. No rear camera. With Apples purchasing and manufacturing capabilities I don't see making a 30%-40% profit at $250 being an issue.

Don't think I would. I purchased my iPad to have a much larger screen from my iPhone without having to whip out my MBP and for on-the-go. A smaller screen takes away from that. I can kind of see how it would be useful to people consonantly on the go, but honestly it does not seem like that much more of a hassle just to carry the current iPad.

I think it'd be great to have lighter iPad. I'm not convinced android is suited for tablet usage so I want to stick with ios. Would be great to have options.

Yes. I think it's a smart form factor.

For reading and portability, a smaller iPad would be sweet. For many things, my iPad 2 is great, but for long reading sessions, it's just too big.

I am eagerly awaiting the release of the 7.85" iPad and was wondering what everyone's thoughts are. The current models are already extremely portable and lightweight, so I am interested to see how many others feel the same way.

Will you purchase the smaller iPad, or are you already happy enough with the current model?

no i am happy with iPad with large screen

Provided the price point is in the sub-$300 range, I'll buy one as a "fourth device" to use for commuter travel

exactly! ha

well, she is no techie, and many say women, children and those with small hands will like it and just throwing out 2 more out of the billion or so on the planet wouldn't go for a smaller one.

:p

If I have more spare money, I would the 7.85" iPad as iPad N (where N stands for Navigation.)
Now, I don't have to use my fingernails all the time on my stupid little navigation, and have some nice capacitive touch screen & Siri!

Being a Mac user with my iTunes/Protected purchases, I purchased all three but ended up selling them after a few months.

I can let go that it doesn't offer Continuous Playback or Video Playlist but I can't stand that I have to tap a Video twice just to play it?!?!?

This is why I love my BlackBerry PlayBook, IT'S THE BEST TABLET TO PLAY VIDEOS. It has Continuous Playback and I can Select a different Video without Interruption by Swiping-from-the-Bezel.

7" Tablet is perfect and portable, I can put it in my pocket.

I will probably buy to try it out but will I keep it, depends if Apple makes any changes.

So you don't read email or watch video on your phone?

I'm sure he must carry it around with him everywhere:p

The current iPad is the ultimate navigation tool that ironically, is to big to conveniently carry around with you...

pretty much everywhere...the only downside is the smart cover doesn't always stay with it as it easily slips off...still looking at getting the ZUM backside.

and thankfully it is Aluminum backing...he can slam any size object down on the table...big or small.

I'm guessing he's not a commuter...
