I guess I can understand people doing this, but I'm a little confused. I would think Apple is currently expecting people to do this, and what I've got from reading this thread is that A LOT of people are looking at doing this. So my question is, what is Apple going to do with all of these used phones? They can't just re-wrap them and put them in the box for the sucker that didn't get a new one early enough.

Personally, I haven't ordered an iPhone yet, but what I do know is that I sure as hell want one that I know has only been used by me and no one else. I'm also certain that other people have to feel the same way I do, so what is apple going to do about all these 30-day phones or whatever it turns out to be?

Just buy a white one, Robbie. :)

Problem solved.

I kid.

You won't have to worry. They won't sell white ones until the 30-day return period is up.

They're sold as Refurbished units. It's a loss for a company. It's merely one piece of the business model figured into initial retail pricing when launching a product. In a nutshell, it's passed on the the consumer, meaning, we pay for these yahoos exchanging their phones for a different color.

Lame marketing tool? Give me a break.

Apple had no intention of making the white model "exclusive" in any way. Steve Jobs said in the keynote that it would be available in white and black from day one. It is not a "stunt," there must have been a manufacturing problem with the white shells. The lack of communication on Apple's part does suck, but that is just how they roll. I expect that once the problem is fixed and Apple knows when it can start selling them, they will tell us.

It seems like no one here has any experience with a business. Jobs and even Apple can't just make these decisions, they have a board and shareholders to answer to. Not having an announced product at launch hurts the company and its earnings, and they're just not going to do something like that.

30 days sucka, 30 days.

Ok, that's enough hoodlum.

I swear, the iPhone 4 has brought so many teen punks to the boards in the last month or two, it's sickening.

That said, I'll have enough common decency to hold on to what I chose, and sell it later if I want white bad enough, which I really don't.

When it comes down to it the color isn't that big of an issue for me and I will probably be too lazy to return it even if white is released within a week of launch. My point was that there were a lot of people misled by the advertisement of the white phones and some of those people had no other reason to believe they were not going to be available at launch. To say that Apple is responsible for this miscommunication and those of us that sold our phones might not have done so if we were presented with correct info to begin with :).

Nooo I definitely want black haha. And yeah I figured that might do that- still not sure though.

This is also what I thought, thanks for making that so clear :D

I'm 16, sorry. Honestly, I don't mean to bother people, such as yourself, but like you said they announced a product they said they would have on launch-day and now they don't have it so I was wondering what they were planning on doing with people who are expecting to make a "swap".

I am keeping my black one. The white ones look kind of strange. Besides, we all know that electronic goods always look good in black.

One of my favorite colors is Black. I have no interest in white, yet I can see why ladies like them. And white is a color that Steve Jobs relates to. That's why there are so many Apple products & accessories in white. I'll pass.

SERIOUSLY?

Who does this?

What the hell is wrong with people? If a person really can't wait and they just HAD to order the black model, then they are making the compromise by buying black. Simply put: you bought it -- it's yours!

Some people's children. I've never seen more babies in all my life! It's starting to make me puke a little bit in my mouth at the thought of owning an iPhone anymore. Sure - I'll still enjoy mine but I'm almost kind of embarrassed to pull it out of my pocket for fear of being associated with the types it has attracted. Disturbing.

Rant finished - 'nuf said.
