There has been an excellent FAQ from Microsoft on GPT I was going to link to but it has been updated to Windows 10 and new details, and a couple tech support articles so try this Bing Search "Microsoft FAQ GPT"

After installing W10 Bootcamp I made a Windows Defender Scan of all the Mac, Defender found 8 Worms/Viruses in the Mail directory of my macos x Partition.
Rebooted in MacOsX, scanned with ClamXAv found 3 of them.
Rebooted in W10 installed Paragon HFS for Win 10 - giving Windows write access to hfs+ partitions, scanned the Mail Directory of the Mac Partition again and deleted the Worms/Viruses using Windows Defender.

Did anaybody else also find Malware with Windows Defender on the hfs+ partition ?

That's why I do not download email and see all attachments in Google Docs. Someone tried to install spyware on my machine years ago and I learned a lesson.

I just had another lock up trying to run software update just after booting. My Windows install is definitely damaged or buggy. The random lock ups or failed wake/boots are still occurring and I have only been giving the OS light use so far. It's very random and I can't pin it down to anything at the moment.

Edit : Windows just gave me a notification : click restart to repair drive errors. See attached.

Whenever the next time is when I want to do a clean install of Windows then I will try these EFI tips even if I don't see a benefit. That WinClone EFI conversion feature doesn't work for me.
based on the picture you provided it looked like your Mac Pro was still Loading the BIOS emulation thats why it could not boot from the EFI converted disk Try the winclone EFI thing then reset the pram then hold option and see if an EFI boot option shows up if it does you should be able to boot from it

That's what I was thinking but it's such a pain in the ssd to reset the Pram when you have a new Nvidia card for OSX and can't keep the old card because it clashes with he new card in Windows. Complicated fanboy machines we have here.

simple fix for this once you reset the pram put in ur GT120 Boot OS X in single user mode and simply type boot-args="nvda_drv=1" and hit enter that should Keep OS X on the current drivers and then you can shut down and remove ur GT120 and boot into OS X and windows with your modern nvidia card heh

I dont know whats up with your installation. Something needs fixing, but if its not a bad hard disk, and I was getting those errors, I would probably resort to a total wipe and reload on fresh partitions.

My win10 has been flawless on my 5,1. I'm using a mac efi gtx 680 video card, after the card swapping games you mentioned, it seems it was a better investment than I realized.

I rebooted like it asked and it did a very quick scan and repair that lasted about 20 seconds and then booted up normally. For now it is behaving. The install is on a new 850 Evo.

Finding a decent cheap USB mic for Cortana was impossible so I did what should have been my first option. I bought a webcam. I never used one with Mac Pro before because my iPad did the Skype duties.

I read about a lot of webcams and the Logitech C615 was the best (good performance, cheap) with official support in OSX and Windows. It works out the box in Win10, Yosemite and El Cap, and Cortana hears it fine. But...BIG BUT...it's still early days for Cortana and she sometimes stops listening half way through a command or doesn't do what I ask even though she confirms that she heard my command. Cortana and Siri are still buggy and need work.

When she does work Cortana launched apps and checked the weather fine. Her voice is very natural. I would like to see her integrated with Netflix so I can just start a movie. Even Siri doesn't do this with the movies I downloaded from the iTunes Store. I also want to change it to a male voice and call him Oy D***head...but I don't think Apple and MS want me to fiddle with their branding.

Cortana forces us to use Microsoft sign in to function and now I'm facing the same locks ups and freezes as before. When I had MS sign in disabled and local account enabled the system behaved normal.

So I think all these issues I have been having is related to the Microsoft sign in procedure. Unfortunately you can't use Cortana without it.

Hi SouCapitanSoyCapitan,

I want to thank you for your comprehensive and detailed feedback in all subforums! Although I'm not a techie, so I don't understand all, I love reading your posts and keeping some as reference for future updates and tweaking!

Got Windows 10 EFI working beautifully on my 5,1

Beta version of BootChamp fixed the "No bootable device" issue:
http://kainjow.com/downloads/BootChamp17b.zip

Had to buy a new OEM license to get it to work with Bootcamp+Fusion however...
"Free" upgrade does not offer telephone activation if activation is ever broken but a retail or OEM key does.

What is that beta? Who posted it?

The random boot up, wake up and lock up problems I have experienced appear to be related to power management and initialising hardware. I have six drives in my system and also a Sonnet Tempo Pro.

I'm still testing but it appears that doing a reboot from OSX results in these random power management issues. Doing a shut down and cold boot into Windows is safer. If anyone else has a complex system with many cards and drives please let us hear if you experience anything like this.

Edit. I just saw the damn thing BSOD

Edit 2. Another BSOD. That's two in one morning.

Reading Samsung forums and tenforums.com

There are numerous reports of BSOD and crashes related to software that needs to be updated for Windows 10. Find below a list of utilities that could cause a problem until they are updated. I have all three installed :eek:o_O

-Bootcamp
-Samsung Magician (especially causing instability)
-GeForce Experience

I had trouble with AIDA64 in the builds leading up and haven't tried it again, something I've always used.

Uninstalled Samsung Magician. Rebooted. Ran some heavy testing. CUDA Benches, ultra settings gameplay. Launched a dozen 'big' apps at the same time including YouTube, VLC and Netflix playing videos side by side. Multi tasked between them. Rock solid stability and very fast.

Let's hope it stays like this and it was Samsung Magician causing the power management and disk activity related crashes.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. I try to avoid 3rd party software/utilities unless they provide some critical functionality. Run a tight ship on your computer and it should be rock-solid stable for the most part.

I installed it for the disk utilities and Rapid mode. But looking at application benchmarks Rapid mode is a waste of time because Windows already does an excellent job of caching in RAM. The only advantage it had was possible faster file saves because it saves files to RAM and then to disk. But that can be a problem. I have a couple of Steam games that can't save and Steam itself can't remember my password. This could be down to Samsung Magician corrupting those apps.

Everything seemed to be running perfectly stable again with Magician removed but I got a BSOD when the machine was left idle with screensaver running. I saw the same crash previously so that one isn't related to Magician. When the computer rebooted two things happened

1. I had 9 gigs of more free space on disk
2. I had no password when waking from sleep mode. Now password to wake from sleep was activated.

Reverting back to Windows 8.1 Pro to enjoy my Windows applications/games and not to be constantly frustrated with this upgrade/activation issues, to put it very MILD!

I'll sit out the ride with Win8.1 atm, untill issues are ironed out a bit more!

Cheers
